Letter Carrier Seriously Injured Delivering Mail

Police were called to the Corner Mart at 3210 S. Staples for an accident involving a United States Postal Service Letter Carrier.  Further investigation revealed the 18-year-old driver of a silver Toyota 4-Runner gassed up and then backed up to the store when he accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the break.

The 45-year-old letter carrier delivering the mail to the store was pinned between the truck and the store wall.  He was taken to Spohn Memorial with potentially life-threatening injuries.

The driver and occupants in the 4-Runner, aged 1, 3, 14, and 19 were not injured.  Traffic Investigators were called to assist and the investigation is ongoing.
