Mother Dies From Injuries Sustained In New Year’s Accident

Occurred on 01/01/12, 2:17 a.m. Intoxication Assault 4700 Old Brownsville 1201010041

Officers responded to the area for an accident in which a silver 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe had rolled over and a passenger had been ejected.

Upon their arrival, Officers were told by witnesses the Tahoe had been traveling at a high rate of speed as it headed southbound on Old Brownsville Road when the driver lost control of the Sports Utility Vehicle. The Tahoe struck the curb causing it to roll several times and landed on its roof.

A 16-year-old female passenger was ejected and transported to Spohn Memorial. Her one year old daughter was transported to Driscoll’s Children’s Hospital. Both had critical injuries.

The 18-year-old male driver and his 18-year-old male passenger were also transported to Spohn Memorial with non-life threatening injuries.

Further investigation revealed, the driver appeared to be intoxicated and a Blood Specimen was taken.

The investigation continues into the accident and the driver faces charges of Intoxication Assault.

UPDATE:

The 16-year-old accident  victim has died from injuries sustained in an early morning New Year’s accident. 

A blood specimen was taken from the driver and  it will be approximately four to six weeks before toxicology results are returned.  At that time, a determination will be made if charges will be filed.

Until then, the Traffic Division will continue with their investigation.
