A 25-year-old man was arrested Sunday afternoon after he pointed out the driver who made a failed attempt to hide from a hit and run crash. Police Officers were called to Starr Street and North Shoreline at about 1:30pm for a crash report in which a 2005 Chevy pickup left without providing information as required.

Officers located the smashed truck parked and unoccupied in a nearby parking garage and the officers directly searched for the driver. The officers located two men seated together at a picnic table on the third level of the parking garage. One of the men immediately pointed and told the officers the other man was the driver. The man who pointed out the driver then attempted to leave against the officer’s direction and then pushed an officer in an attempt to leave. The officers believed the man was a passenger in the crashed vehicle and restrained the man. The officers then located an amount of marijuana and a controlled substance in the man’s pockets.

Kenneth Mowles (1/3/1987) was arrested for Possession of a controlled substance, Possession of Marijuana, and Resisting arrest or Detention. Mowles was taken to Spohn Memorial Hospital for a precautionary medical check because he was involved in the vehicle crash and then Mr. Mowles was taken to the city detention center. The second man who was identified as the driver was issued several traffic citations and released.
