Occurred March 5, 2012, 2:33am Weber at McArdle, Intoxication Assault 1204050018

A 26-year-old man was hospitalized as a result of a crash at the intersection of Weber and McArdle Thursday morning.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer saw a silver 2011 Chevy Malibu travel north on Weber from Holly at a high rate of speed. The officer was outside of the patrol car when his attention was attracted to the Malibu because the horn sounded, and the tires squealed. The officer attempted to catch up to the Malibu and saw the Malibu attempt to turn left to travel west on McArdle, and the Malibu crashed.

The 26-year-old operator of the Malibu did not wear a seat belt and was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A 26-year-old passenger in the Malibu did wear a seat belt and was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries as a result of the crash.

An offense report was generated for intoxication assault because the passenger was injured as a result of the crash and Corpus Christi Police collected evidence that this was an alcohol related event. Intoxication Assault is a 3^rd degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
