A 15-year-old male and a 17-year-old man were apprehended by police Friday morning after a crash in a stolen vehicle.
Corpus Christi Police were called to the area of McArdle Road at Sandstone Drive at about 3:00am for a complaint that there was a man taking items out of vehicles without permission. A vehicle description was broadcast on the radio and patrol officers in the area located a vehicle with a similar description as was broadcast.
Officers attempted to investigate the gray 2008 Ford Escape and its occupants, but the vehicle accelerated from the officers. The officers observed items thrown from the vehicle which were later collected.
A police supervisor cancelled the attempt to catch up to the vehicle. Police Officers later discovered the vehicle was involved in a single vehicle crash at the intersection of Weber Road and McArdle Road. The operator of the vehicle, a 15-year-old male, was detained and taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The patrol officers discovered the vehicle was taken without permission so the juvenile was accused of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and delivered to the Nueces County Juvenile Detention Center.
The passenger in the vehicle, 17-year-old Michael Salinas (2/23/1995) was arrested for possession of marijuana and tampering with evidence. Possession of marijuana in this amount is a Class B misdemeanor punishable by up to 6 months in jail and up to a $2,000 fine. The tampering with evidence charge is a 3rd degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. Salinas was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation and then delivered to the city detention center.
