Occurred on 5/20/12, 03:00 am Burglary of a Habitation 900 N. Shoreline 1205200026
Two Omni Bayfront Hotel guests reported to Officers they returned to their room, but were unable to open the door with their room key. With a new key in hand, the guests returned to their room to discover it had been burglarized. They found their personal items had been rummaged through. A laptop computer, a wallet with several credit cards, a cell phone and Apple iPad II were stolen.
One of the victim’s told Officers he was able to track his iPad to 4934 High Meadow. Officers nearby were sent to the residence and attempted to contact the occupants of the home which could be seen through the glass door along with some Marijuana.
After repeated knocking with no answer, Officers called one of the victim’s phones, which Officers could hear ringing inside the residence. When one of the men inside the home retrieved the cell phone, Officers were able to talk to him. As the man talked to Officers, his companion began to close the drapes, trying to obscure the Officers’ view inside the residence.
Further investigation revealed several items belonging to the victims were inside the home. The CCPD Property Crimes Unit was called to assist and Leonard Hamilton (07/11/66) and Tyson Corcoran (12/19/80) were arrested. Both Hamilton and Corcoran were charged with Theft, a State Jail Felony which is punishable by up to 2 years in jail and a $10,000 fine. Hamilton was additionally charged with Failure to Identify as a Fugitive and an outstanding Parole Violation warrant.
The items stolen and recovered were valued at $4,300. They were returned to the victims. The Marijuana and paraphernalia were tagged as evidence.
