Woman Arrested For 2011 Fatal Crash

A 24 year old woman was arrested for manslaughter Tuesday morning at her apartment on the 2000 block of Treyway Lane.

Devry Resendez (10/1/1987) was arrested Tuesday morning for an arrest warrant issued following a vehicle crash on the 5900 block of State Highway 358 by Sunrise Mall which resulted in the death of a 70-year-old woman September 4, 2011.

Corpus Christi Police investigated a crash on the freeway near Airline and South Padre Island Drive on September 4, 2011 in which Resendez drove a gray 2008 Chevy Malibu east on State Highway 358 at 1:00am and struck a 1998 Toyota Camry from behind. A 70-year-old woman was fatally injured and a 24-year-old woman was seriously injured as a result of the crash. Resendez was arrested the night of the crash for Driving While Intoxicated.

Corpus Christi Crash Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Resendez for the charge of Intoxication Manslaughter to replace the Driving While Intoxicated charge. The Warrant for Arrest also included the charges of Intoxication Assault (for the injury to the 24-year-old woman) and Accident Resulting in Personal Injury or Death (for leaving the scene of the crash without intent to return).

Intoxication Manslaughter is a 2nd degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. The Intoxication Assault charge is a 3rd degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
