Three Caught Surfing With Stolen Boards And Suits

Two 16-year-old boys and an 18-year-old man were taken into police custody charged with burglary of a habitation after they were found surfing with stolen property.

A 63-year-old man found his two surf boards, two wet suits, and other items taken from his garage used by three boys on the beach near Beach Marker 212 at 8:30 Tuesday morning. The 63-year-old man told police his garage door was left open overnight and over $1,500 of surfing gear was taken without permission.

The 63-year-old man went to the beach and found his property used by strangers and then police were called. The property was returned to the owner and the two 16-year-old boys were taken to the juvenile detention center. 18-year-old Jeremy Rodriguez (12/15/1993) was arrested and taken to the city detention center. Burglary of a Habitation is a 2nd degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Police encourage prevention to reduce the risk of theft. Police suggest closing garage doors when not in use. Police also suggest to mark property with an owner applied number and record serial numbers of property in order to accurately and clearly make claim to any property that is taken without permission.
