Occurred on 6/20/12, 8:59 am Burglary of a Habitation 15202 Windward 1206200153
A vacationing San Antonio Police Officer and his family staying at the Holiday Inn on Padre Island had their holiday marred by a burglar. The officer and his 10-year-old daughter were in the hotel’s lobby using the guest computer when his daughter told him a woman was walking away with her mother’s purse. At the same time, the Officer’s wife came into the lobby and told him their room had been burglarized.
The Officer gave chase and was able to stop the woman and get back their stolen items. As he was escorting the suspect Banna Roberts (04/06/71) back to the hotel, her family became verbally confrontational with the victim and Roberts was able to slip away. As Officers were conducting their investigation, hotel patrons told Officers the suspect was walking along the Seawall, approximately 75 yards away.
Roberts was returned to the hotel and positively identified. Once arrested and told she was going to jail, Roberts claimed shortness of breath and other medical ailments. CCFD Emergency Personnel were called to check on her welfare. When Medics cleared her, Roberts claimed heart trouble and taken to Bay Area Hospital where she was medically cleared by hospital staff.
Roberts was booked at the City Detention Center and charged with Burglary of a Habitation, a Second Degree Felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. The stolen purse and camera valued at $850. were returned to the victim.
