Traffic Stop Leads to Discovery of Drugs

Occurred on 6/22/12, !2:45 am  Possession of Marijuana   1900 Sherman    1206220010 

Officers pulled over a green Dodge Ram pick-up truck for a couple of traffic violations.  The driver could be seen attempting to hide something in the rear cab of the truck.  Christopher A. Garcia (04/26/86) was visibly shaking when Officers contacted him.  Garcia had two young passengers sitting in the cab area of the truck, a nine-year-old boy and a 3-year-old little girl.  In the rear floorboard, Officers could see a Marijuana cigarette.   

Garcia was arrested and during the impound inventory, a box containing several more Marijuana cigarettes and Crack Cocaine was found.  Garcia was booked at the City Detention Center and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Marijuana.  The Possession of Controlled Substance is a 3rd Degree Felony and punishable by up to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.  The Marijuana Possession is a Class “B” Misdemeanor and is punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine or both. 

The two children were released to a family member.  A copy of the report will be forwarded to Child Protective Services.
