Officers responded to a disturbance call at Ophraka’s Restaurant when they observed a male matching the description of the suspect involved in the parking lot. The male hid behind a Suburban in the parking lot, but Officers could see his feet as he paced back and forth, finally deciding to walk away.
The Officers caught up to Brandon Michael Williams (08/06/92) and a struggle ensued when one Officer tried to check him for weapons. As the Officers struggled with Williams he kept reaching for his waistband. Williams continued to resist and was able to loosen one hand and hit one of the Officers on the bridge of his nose and forehead with the handcuff. All three fell to the ground continued to resist and began tugging at one of the Officer’s duty belt. Williams also bit the other Officer on the forearm, breaking the skin.
Williams was tased and he complied with Officers allowing them to handcuff him. While struggling with Williams, a firearm fell out of his waistband. Williams was arrested and medically cleared by CCFD Emergency Personnel before being booked at the City Detention Center. He was charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon, and Resisting Arrest, Search or Transport.
The Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer is a 1st Degree Felony and is punishable by up to 99 years and a fine of $10,000. The Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon is a Class “B” Misdemeanor and punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine. The Resisting Arrest charge is upgraded to a 3rd Degree Felony when a weapon is used and punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
One Officer received treatment at Spohn Memorial for the bite wound.
