Driver Hospitalized After Flipping Truck

Occurred on 8/13/12, 01:19 am  Driving While Intoxicated    Hwy 358 at S. Staples    C1206089/1208130019 

Officers responded to a one vehicle accident in which a white Ford Ranger flipped on its side and then skidded across the roadway.  Witnesses report the truck was weaving back and forth as it traveled eastbound on SH 358 from Weber Road.  The driver appeared to be exiting the freeway when it veered back onto the highway and lost control.  The truck struck the center median barrier and flipped onto its passenger side skidding approximately 585 feet.

CCFD Emergency Personnel ripped the windshield out to extricate the 20-year-old unseat belted driver who was found unconscious with a laceration to the head.  The driver was taken to Spohn Memorial with life threatening injuries and currently in the Intensive Care Unit.

Further investigation revealed alcohol might have been a factor in the accident and a blood draw taken.   The investigation is ongoing and the driver could face charges of Driving While Intoxicated.  He was charged with Failure to Control Speed and Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility.
