Occurred 9/24/12, 7:44 am Major Accident 25th Street C1207270
Officers responded to an accident involving a pedestrian at the 2600 block of Ruth Street. Further investigation revealed the 15-year-old on his way to a friend’s house stepped onto the roadway and was struck by a Chevrolet Trail Blazer traveling east bound on Ruth Street. The teenager was administered CPR and medical care by both police officers and CCFD emergency personnel before being rushed to Spohn Memorial. Officers report the teenager was admitted and currently in Critical Condition.
The teenager did not cross the street at a marked cross walk and the driver of the SUV will not be cited. Although the accident was not in a school zone, the Police Department would like to remind the community to drive carefully throughout the day, especially before and after school. The Safety Advisory Board recommends that motorist drive slower than the posted limit in poor conditions, particularly in the rain and fog. Avoid making U-turns within school zones, and never turn arround in driveways adjacent to schools or park within 20 feet of a cross walk.
