Occurred on 9/22/12, 12:36 am Arson/Retaliation 3257 Agnes 1209220004
Gang Officers were conducting an investigation in the 3200 block of Agnes when they observed a vehicle turn out their lights and park at 100 Eleanor. Three males got out of the vehicle armed with gas cans and began to pour gas onto a parked vehicle and a nearby building. The Officers drove up to the three males as they ignited both the building and vehicle.
Officers caught all three juveniles as they fled back to their vehicle, taking them all by surprise. Other Officers arrived and were able to use the fire extinguishers in their police cars to begin putting out the fires before CCFD’s arrival.
Further investigation revealed the three suspects were involved in an accident on September 15, 2012 involving a hit and run driver. The accident escalated into disturbance involving the owner of the building and the vehicle. The arson was the suspects’ retribution for the victim’s refusal to pay for damages and his lack of respect.
Joseph Maldonado (11/25/93) and Anthony Leal (04/23/95) were arrested along with a 16-year-old juvenile male. The two adults were booked at the City Detention Center and the juvenile was booked at the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center. All three were charged with two counts of Arson and one count of Retaliation.
