Occurred Thursday, September 27, 2012, 17:52, Morgan at Santa Fe, Vehicle crash with fatal injury, C1207368

A child did not survive a vehicle crash at the intersection of Morgan Avenue and Santa Fe Street Thursday night.

A blue Honda Odyssey travelled west on Morgan Avenue at 5:52 pm Thursday. The Honda went through the red light at the intersection of Santa Fe and Morgan. A white Chevy Astrovan travelled south on Santa Fe and struck the Honda on the passenger’s side of the Honda. The Honda rolled after the impact and struck a black Volks Wagon Jetta that was stopped facing east on Morgan Avenue at the red light.

A boy fell out of the Honda and was fatally injured. Three other occupants of the Honda were transported to the hospital. The man who drove the Astrovan was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The occupants of the black Jetta were not seriously injured in the crash.

Corpus Christi Police Crash Investigators continue to evaluate the information, but, believe the boy who was fatally injured was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Investigators believe that the sun may have been a factor for the driver to travel through the red light.

Traffic was directed away from the intersection until 8:00pm when the roads were open to normal use.
