Witnesses Call Police, Foil Burglary

Occurred on 9/1/12,  11:43 am Burglary of a Habitation 4421 Gaines Street  1210010063/12010010064

Officers were called to investigate a burglary in progress at the residence.  The witnesses observed a man and woman on bicycles in the garage of the home.  Officers searched for the couple and found Angelo Coglaiti (07/15/79) and Lori Vandusen (11/12/85) in the area of Gaines near Airline.

Coglaiti had a golf bag strapped to the back of his bicycle with a pressure washer inside, while Vandusen was found to be in possession of a stolen checkbook.  Both claimed to have found the items by the roadway.

Further investigation revealed the duo burglarized the Gaines Street residence and hid the pressure washer in the bushes adjoining the apartment complex.  They returned for the stolen property and rode their bicycles to the 400 block of Ashland where they burglarized a minivan, taking the check book.

Both Coglaiti and Vandusen were arrested and charged with Burglary of a Habitation and Burglary of a Motor Vehicle.  Lt. T. Nichols mentioned the apprehension of Coglaiti and Vandusen were “Super arrests which ended a burglary string before it really got started.”

The Police Department would like to remind everyone to close their garage doors and lock their vehicles.  Think like a thief and look for ways to secure both your home and vehicles, making them less accessible to burglars.
