Off Duty Police Officer Stops Burglary at Neighbors House

Occurred Tuesday, February 5, 2013, 9:19am, 1100 Graham Rd. Burglary of a Habitation, 1302050026

An off duty Corpus Christi Police Officer stopped a burglary Tuesday morning at his neighbor’s house on the 1100 block of Graham Road.

The Corpus Christi Police Officer worked in his garden at his home on the 1100 block of Graham Road Tuesday morning at about 9:20am and saw an unknown 22-year-old man with a hatchet in the officer’s neighbors drive way. The Officer confronted 22-year-old Gordon Morris (9/6/1990) and convinced Morris to drop the hatchet.

The officer then led Morris away from the hatchet and other tools which could be used for weapons while they waited for uniformed Corpus Christi Police Patrol Officers to arrive. Morris then began to struggle with the unarmed off duty officer until uniformed officers arrived and placed Morris in handcuffs.

Officers discovered Morris had entered the off duty officer’s neighbors recreational vehicle without permission from the owner and stole the hatchet and other items.

Morris was arrested for burglary of a habitation (a Second Degree Felony), for Unlawful Use of Criminal Instruments (a state jail felony), and for possession of drug paraphernalia (a Class C misdemeanor). Uniformed officers then delivered Morris to the city detention center.
