Offense: Burglary of a Habitation/Homicide

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a possible burglary of a habitation on the 5300 block of Greenbriar Drive. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a shooting at 10:33am and found a man outside of a home with injuries consistent with at least one gunshot wound. The injured man, who is not the home owner, was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment for what Officers believe are life threatening injuries. Officers contacted the 56-year-old home owner and found the home owner was not injured. Detectives believe they have accounted for all suspects in this event.
Corpus Christi Police Detectives and Forensics Lab Technicians arrived at the scene to gather information and evidence. The 56-year-old home owner and several witnesses were taken to Police Headquarters for interviews. Police continue to investigate to determine if any criminal act was committed and what criminal charges may be appropriate. UPDATE:
Corpus Christi Homicide/Robbery Detectives have identified the shooting victim from 5300 Greenbriar as Dustin James Tate (07/03/84). Tate died on the evening of December 2, 2013 from his injuries sustained during the burglary.
Detectives are investigating the shooting as a homicide. They will also continue to investigate the original call for the residential burglary. Once the investigation is complete, it will be presented to the Nueces County District Attorney’s Office.
