Corpus Christi Police were involved in a shooting at the 4100 block of Herndon Street Tuesday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to a disturbance call at 11:17pm Tuesday night on the 4100 block of Herndon Street. Corpus Christi Police received several additional calls that there was a man who discharged a firearm outside in front of homes. Corpus Christi Police arrived and confronted a 44-year-old man with a handgun. The 44-year-old man discharged the firearm at the Officers and the Officers returned fire. The 44-year-old man was struck and provided aid by the Officers until Corpus Christi Fire Department Medics transported the 44-year-old man to the hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported.
The Criminal Investigations Division and the Professional Standards Division responded to conduct an investigation as required by department policy. The Officers involved have been placed on administrative leave as required by department policy. The District Attorney will conduct the ultimate review once all the information and evidence has been collected related to this event.
Update: The 44-year-old man died as a result of his injuries. The cause of death will be investigated and determined by the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office.
