Location: 5300 State Highway 358
Event: Major Vehicle Crash
Crash Number: C1402111

A vehicle crash closed the freeway along South Padre Island Drive in front of Olive Garden for about an hour Tuesday. Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash at 11:02am at the 5300 block of State Highway 37 in which a milk truck was overturned. The Corpus Christi Fire Department addressed a vehicle fire from a disabled vehicle that was in the interior shoulder against the concrete divider between the westbound and eastbound lanes of traffic. No injuries were involved with the vehicle fire, but the interior left lane of the westbound lanes was closed and the traffic was diverted to the exterior lanes. Officers learned that a 2007 International Scout commercial truck which carried milk as a load and operated by a 58-year-old man, changed lanes from the interior left lane to the middle lane. The truck overcorrected to stop and the truck rolled onto its side and then struck a 1998 Honda Civic driven by a 19-year-old man. The Corpus Christi Police directed traffic off the freeway to take the Everhart exit until the crash site was cleaned up at 12:09pm. The 58-year-old man and the 19-year-old man were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. No citations were issued and the progress of the scene was updated by Corpus Christi Police on ReverseAlert and Twitter. Once the scene was cleaned up and the freeway was back open to normal use, a Twitter follower made the following comment:
