OFFENSE: Major Crash
CASE # C1402829
Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a two vehicle crash at the intersection of South Staples St. and Wooldridge Road that required three CCFD EMS units to respond, and left an 11 year old male with serious injuries. The crash investigation showed that a four door Mercury sedan was stopped while traveling north on S. Staples St. for a red light at the Wooldridge Rd. intersection. A black 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe was also traveling north on S. Staples St. when it struck the Mercury from behind. Inside the Mercury were 3 children, an 11 year old male, a 10 year old female, a 7 year old male, along with 2 adults, a 34 year old male driver and a 32 year old female front seat passenger. All the children were transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital by CCFD EMS. The driver and female passenger in the Mercury were father and mother of all the children. They were not seriously injured in the crash. The driver of the black SUV was a 32 year old male who told officers that he thought the light at the intersection was green. The force of impact pushed the Mercury across the intersection and over the sidewalk onto private property. The SUV slid sideways and came to rest in the intersection. Corpus Christi Traffic Officers diverted traffic in the area for about three hours while they investigated this crash. At this time no charges have been filed and no citations have been issued. At last report, the 11 year old had serious, but no life threatening injuries.
