A 38 year old male called Corpus Christi Police after he found his apartment at 6635 S. Staples St. had been burglarized and several guns were missing. The victim of the burglary said he left his apartment at about 7:30 am and returned to find a rear window in a back bedroom had been broken and was open. The victim said his gun safe was broken into and ten handguns ranging in value from $300 to $1000 were stolen. The victim also reported that five knives were taken, along with over $3500 in cash that was also in the safe.

Three men were arrested following an altercation on a city street over a vehicle cutting off another. It all started at about 2:20 am at the intersection of S. Staples St. and Saratoga Blvd. when Rudy Valencia (02/13/1988) driving his 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer said he was cut off by a 2008 Kia Optima. Mr. Valencia said he followed the vehicle over to the intersection of Holly Rd. and Weber Rd. with intentions of confronting the driver of the Kia. Both vehicles pulled into a parking lot at 3902 Holly Rd. and upon exiting his car, Mr. Valencia was assaulted by two males in the Kia, Orlando Garcia (02/20/1989) and Rudy Moreno (02/24/1988). Mr. Valencia told officers he was punched in the face, and both males took out golf clubs and began hitting him and his car. Mr. Valencia suffered minor injuries as a result of the assault. When officers spoke to the other two males they said that Mr. Valencia had run over them with his car when they exited their vehicle and the force of being hit threw them over the hood of the car causing them both to be injured. Both males had scrapes and cuts to their arms that was caused by the assault. They were both treated at Spohn MMC for their injuries and then arrested. After further investigation which included speaking to witnesses Mr. Garcia and Mr. Moreno were both charged with aggravated assault, for using the golf clubs to hit Mr. Valencia and criminal mischief for doing about $600 in damage to his Mitsubishi. Mr. Valencia was arrested for aggravated assault for striking both males with his car. Both vehicles were impounded.

A 38 year old female victim called the Corpus Christi Police and said that she was outside and could hear her neighbors in the nearby garage pumping up what sounded like a BB gun. She went about her business and her 16 year old daughter joined her outside and they heard a “pop” from a BB gun. When they looked toward the garage they could see a male looking in their direction. The female went to confront the male that was holding the BB gun and he denied shooting at her. Ignacio Ortiz (08/17/1981) was contacted by police and taken into custody. He was charged with aggravated assault, a second degree felony and it was also discovered that he had an outstanding parole warrant for his arrest. The BB gun was confiscated and neither female was injured.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated (PC 49.04 Class B Misdemeanor)

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a hit and run crash in the 2700 block of Leopard St. Officers contacted a 23 year old female who stated that he was traveling north on Palm Drive when she was struck by a maroon Dodge Pickup truck which was traveling east on Leopard St. that ran the red light. The driver of the truck told the female that she could not wait for the police, so the female took a picture of her license plate before she fled the scene. Other officers found the hit and run vehicle in the 700 block of Fifth St. with the driver sitting in the grass next to her parked truck. Officers observed damage to the front of the truck consistent with being involved in a crash, and also found the female to be intoxicated. The truck license plate matched the one that the female had snapped a picture of, and officers were able to determine that this was the hit and run vehicle. Shirley Watkins (11/28/1955) was arrested for driving while intoxicated. She was additionally charged with possession of dangerous drugs, a Class A misdemeanor, when several hydrocodone pills were found loose in her purse. Her truck was impounded, and she faces several other traffic related charges for the crash that she caused. None of the three people in the vehicle that was hit by the female was injured in the crash.
