Patrol Report September 19, 2014

The Corpus Christi Police Department generated 211 reports for formal criminal complaints from midnight September 18 to 7:00 a.m. on September 19, 2014. These are samples of the criminal complaints filed by the Corpus Christi Police for that time period.

 

“Bravo” District

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated             (PC 49.04Class B Misdemeanor)

A 19 year old male called Corpus Christi Police after the vehicle he was driving was struck from behind and the other vehicle fled the scene. The man told officers that he was sitting in his 1998 Ford Taurus at the light at Holly Rd. and Rodd Field Rd. facing east waiting at a red light. He stated that when the light turned green, he was struck from behind by a 2001 Ford F250 truck. After striking the car, the driver of the truck continued traveling east on Holly Rd. not stopping.  The male followed the hit and run driver to the 7400 block of Piper Dr. where the driver of the truck exited and he then began to urinate in the roadway and was yelling at the male for following him. Officers arrived and contacted the driver, Alec Martinez (09/07/1992), and upon investigation found him to be intoxicated.  He was arrested for driving while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor, and his truck was impounded.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were at a business located at 2402 S. Padre Island Dr. investigating a disturbance inside when they became aware of a very intoxicated female unrelated to the disturbance call exit the women’s restroom and stumbled around while walking. Officers contacted Rosie Guajardo (02/29/1992) who told them that she had a ride and that he was in the drive thru lane waiting on an order.  Officers went outside and found a black Dodge Avenger at the drive through window with a male driver slumped over the steering wheel.  The car’s engine was running and the driver had his foot on the brake pedal. Officers opened the passenger side door of the vehicle and were able to take the keys out of the ignition, and turn the engine off.  Officers then were able to wake the driver, and after an investigation found him to be intoxicated.  During an inventory of his car which was impounded, officers located a plastic bag containing marijuana in the center console.  Officers took the driver to the City Detention Center where he began to complain of chest pains.  He was transported by CCFD EMS to Spohn Shoreline Hospital. Officers released him to hospital staff so he could undergo exams. He was not arrested, but will face charges of driving while intoxicated and possession of marijuana, both Class B misdemeanors once he is released.  The female was arrested for public intoxication, a Class C misdemeanor.

Offense: Escape from Custody        (PC 38.06    Third Degree Felony)

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a call for assistance from the City Detention Center after a prisoner escaped and was being chased by CDC personnel on foot in the downtown area. John D. Pelko (04/28/1982) was captured by officers after just a few minutes at the corner of Lipan St and Carancahua St. CDC officers said that the suspect was originally in custody for a parole warrant.  At the time of his escape, he was being taken from his holding cell for handcuffing so he could be transported to the Nueces County Jail. At that time he sprinted towards the rear jail exterior door and kicked it open with enough force to open the electronic door.  The suspect now faces charges of escape, a third degree felony.

Offense: Robbery      (PC 29.02   Second Degree Felony)

A 31 year old female store employee reported to Corpus Christi Police that a female suspect she believed was stealing items from a store located at 2308 Horne Rd. assaulted her as she made her escape. Responding officers located the suspect in the 4100 block of S. Port Ave and took her into custody.  The store employee said that she tried to stop the female from leaving the store after she was observed walking past all points of sale and refused to pay for items she had taken from the store.  When the employee confronted the suspect, she began hitting her.  The employee had scratches to her neck and her hands that were caused by the suspect.   The suspect was found in possession of over $50 worth of merchandise and in her purse, a bag of cocaine was found.  The suspect was charged with robbery, a second degree felony, for using force to steal the merchandise, and possession of controlled substance, a state jail felony for the narcotics found in her possession.
