Corpus Christi Police are investigating two incidents of counterfeit twenty dollar bills showing up at local convenience stores. In the first incident, the manager of a store located at 4202 S. Staples St. turned over a fake bill the store took in on Sunday from a customer. The manager is looking over store surveillance footage to see if she can find the customer that passed the bill. In the second incident involving counterfeit money, officers responded to a store located at 15302 S. Padre Island Dr. and contacted a 39 year old man who said that earlier in the day he went to the Stripes Store located at Everhart Rd. and Holly Rd. to buy some cigarettes. He said that the clerk from that store gave him back change for a one hundred dollar bill after he purchased some merchandise. He said he left the store without checking the money. A couple hours later the man went to the store at Whitecap Blvd. and S. Padre Island Dr. and when he handed the clerk the two twenty dollar bills he got as change earlier in the day to pay for merchandise, he was told by the clerk that the two twenties dollar bills were counterfeit. The man then called the police to report the incident. Officers recovered the two twenty dollar bills as evidence and are looking into both of these cases.

A 40 year old man who thought he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest tried to hide from Corpus Christi Police in a neighbor’s attic for several hours.
