Corpus Christi Police Officers were on the scene of a crash involving a vehicle that had rolled over after striking another vehicle and some traffic barrels, when a police unit was struck and destroyed.

A 40 year old man with his 2 year old son were traveling west on State Highway 358 in a 2007 Nissan Altima when the driver made an unsafe lane change and struck a 2002 Chevrolet Impala driven by a 50 year old male. The driver of the Nissan lost control after striking the Impala and it struck some traffic barrels and then flipped over. No one was injured in that crash.

An officer arrived to investigate that crash and positioned his police unit in the far right lane of the freeway. The officer then got out of his unit and walked up to the accident scene when a 2006 Ford Mustang collided into the back of the parked police unit and it was immediately engulfed in flames.

The driver of the Ford Mustang, Jorge Ortiz (07/12/1974), was determined to be intoxicated and was arrested. The west bound lanes of the freeway were shut down for several hours until both accidents were able to be cleared off of the highway. There were no injuries in any of these vehicles.

Case Number: 1410270143
Corpus Christi Police responded to a disturbance at a home located in the 2900 block of Donte Dr. involving a female that had thrown a propane bottle at a truck being driven by her sister in law. Witnesses told officers that a red Ford F-150 truck was backing from out of the garage when the female suspect grabbed a propane bottle that was full and threw it at the front windshield of the truck. When the truck didn’t stop backing, the suspect then grabbed a shovel from the garage and started slamming it on the hood of the truck, with her sister in law still inside. Witnesses said the female was mad about her sister in law trying to take the truck from the home.  The female then left the home in her car, only to return a few minutes later when officers arrived. After an investigation, officers determined that the female suspect, Maribel Mason (08/01/1979) who had attacked the truck, was intoxicated. She was arrested for aggravated assault, a second degree felony for arming herself with weapons. She was also charged with criminal mischief, a state jail felony for the damage she did to the truck. Officers also determined that she had left the scene in her car and she was additionally charged with driving while intoxicated. At the City Detention Center, officers found cocaine in her bra, and the charge of possession of a controlled substance was also added to her list of offenses.
