Patrol Report 02/24/2015

The Corpus Christi Police Department generated 168 reports for formal criminal complaints from midnight February 23 to 7:00 a.m. on February 24, 2015. These are samples of the criminal complaints filed by the Corpus Christi Police for that time period.

 

“DELTA” District

Offense: Possession of a Controlled Substance

A Corpus Christi Police Officer on patrol was attempting to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation when the driver of the car attempted to flee.

The officer observed the 2000 Chevrolet truck make an improper turn from Marguerite Street onto S. Staples Street.
When the officer went to stop the car, he sped away.

Other responding officers located the car abandoned near the 500 block of S. Staples Street, and then officers found the suspect walking between some buildings in the area.

Offices contacted the male suspect, Espiridion Suarez (06/03/1982), and placed him under arrest for evading police in a vehicle.  He was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance, a state jail felony, when it was discovered he tried to toss a bag of methamphetamine.  The drugs were recovered, and the suspects’ car was impounded.

A 52 year old female called Corpus Christi Police after a neighbor of hers called her and said some men where in her backyard.

The female called police and when they arrived at the home located in the 1800 block of Shely Street, they found three males running out the back door.

Officers were able to take Christopher Jenkins (12/14/1996) into custody and he was arrested for burglary.  The two other male suspects with him, a 16 and a 14 year old, were also taken into custody.  They were both taken to the Juvenile Justice Center.

The female homeowner believes that the suspects were able to gain entry into her home through the front door because the dead bolt lock does not work properly.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated

A Corpus Christi Police Officer on patrol came upon a car in the middle turn lane of S. Staples Street with its front left wheel detached from the axel and smoke emitting from the rear of the vehicle.  The officer saw a male exit the vehicle and look at the front wheel and then get back inside the car and press the accelerator.

While investigating this call, the officer was approached by a 33 year old man who told him that the driver of the broken down car had hit his vehicle from behind while they were traveling on S. Staples Street.

He said he followed the car to a convenience store and saw the driver go inside and attempt to buy beer but the store clerk refused to sell it to him.  It was then that the driver left the store parking lot and pulled onto the street and the officer found him.

After an investigation, the officer determined that the driver, Steven Hanna (10/03/1966), was intoxicated and he was arrested on a felony DWI charge.  He was additionally found to have an outstanding arrest warrant for a probation violation.

Neither the driver of the other vehicle or his 31 year old female passenger were injured in the hit and run crash with the suspect.
