The Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section is investigating the years fourth vehicle crash with a fatal injury which happened Monday afternoon at Interstate Highway 37 at Callicoate Road.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash at 5:20pm on the northbound lanes of Interstate Highway 37 headed toward Calallen north of Callicoate Road. Officers learned that a boy had not survived the crash, and Officers requested additional resources which included the Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section. Investigators learned that a 25-year-old woman travelled north on Interstate Highway 37 in her Dodge Ram truck in the far right lane when traffic in front of the Dodge truck stopped due to normal traffic issues. The Dodge truck operated by the 25-year-old woman did not slow and struck a Ford Focus driven by a 29-year-old woman who had two children passengers ages 4 and 7. The Ford Focus went into the jersey barrier and then struck a Nissan Titan, which hit a Buick Rendezvous. The rear of the 25-year-old woman’s truck went airborne and sent her truck sideways. The Dodge truck also struck the Titan and Rendezvous. The truck then landed on the driver side, with the passenger side doors faced to the sky. The driver of every vehicle involved in the crash, except for the Rendezvous, was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

The 25-year-old woman and the driver of the Titan were taken to Northwest Regional with minor injuries. The 29-year-old woman driver of the Focus was taken to Memorial Medical Center and her 7-year-old daughter was taken to Driscoll Children’s Hospital, both with injuries believed to be non-life threatening. The 4-year-old boy in the Focus was killed on impact, as he sat properly restrained in a car seat in the back seat on the side that the Dodge Ram struck. Several witnesses stopped and gave statements to Investigators.

Investigators do not believe alcohol was a contributing factor to the crash.

The 25-year-old woman’s phone was collected as evidence, and Investigators intend to get warrant to search the phone. No criminal charges have been filed related to this case as of 11pm Monday night.
