Motorcyclist Seriously Injured In Wreck

Occurred on  11/25/11, 7:43 p.m.  Major Accident   3800 S. Padre Island Drive     C1108518

Officers responded to a one vehicle major accident involving a motorcycle.   Further investigation revealed the 35-year-old motorcyclist who was  traveling westbound on the access road attempted to change lanes and enter the on ramp to SH 358.  The victim lost control of his white 1996 Yamaha when he failed to see the raised concrete curb and collided with it. 

He sustained severe head trauma and transported to Spohn Memorial by CCFD Emergency Personnel.

Armed Landlord Confronts Tenant Over Her Children Playing in Parking Lot

Occurred on 11/27/11, 2:07p.m.   Deadly Conduct   9850 La Branch     1111270069 

Officers responded to the Westwood Apartments for a disturbance in progress involving a weapon.  Upon their arrival, Officers contacted the 31-year-old victim who reported the apartment manager had threatened her with a gun.  The victim told Officers a disturbance erupted over her children playing in the parking lot during which the 46-year-old apartment manager threatened to evict her.

The victim told Officers, the manager walked to his  red 2001 Porsche Boxster and armed himself with a firearm.  When the victim warned her husband about the gun, he stepped in front of her.  The suspect’s girlfriend exited the vehicle and stopped him.  They both drove off, but returned after police arrived.

Witnesses confirmed the victim’s account of the incident.  The weapon was not recovered, but the investigation is active and ongoing.

“From The Frying Pan Into The Fire”

Occurred on 11/22/11, 4:06 p.m.  Aggravated Assault   6249 Choctaw     1111220096

Officers responded to the residence for a disturbance over a borrowed skillet.  Upon their arrival, Officers contacted the victim who reported he was assaulted by his neighbor when he stopped by to ask for his borrowed cookware.    Aristeo B. Martinez (02/28/54) became upset at the victim and punched him in the face and entered the residence. 

Martinez returned outside armed with a pistol and punched the victim in the back of the head as he was walking away.  When the victim turned around, the suspect pointed the pistol at him and fired one shot in the air.  The victim fled and called 911. 

During their investigation, Officers were able to recover the firearm.  Martinez was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

The victim sustained minor injuries and treated by CCFD Emergency Personnel and released.

Ex-Girlfriend Arrested After Stabbing New Girlfriend

Occurred on 11/22/11, 8:45 p.m.   Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon   409 Claride Street     1111220132 

Officers responded to Bay Area Hospital reference a walk-in stabbing victim which occurred on 409 Claride Street.  Upon their arrival, Officers contacted the 19-year-old victim who reported her 21-year-old boyfriend and his ex-girlfriend were arguing about child care.  The victim became involved in the argument and was physically assaulted by the ex-girlfriend. 

The victim did not realize she was stabbed until the assault stopped.  The suspect ran off and the victim’s boyfriend drove her to the hospital where police were called.  The victim was transported to Spohn Memorial for a laceration to her neck and back.

Officers contacted witnesses and were able to locate the suspect at 526 Claride Street.  Jacqueline Ann Houghtaling (09/23/77) was positively identified by witnesses and arrested.  Houghtaling was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and an outstanding Municipal Court warrant.

Having A Bad Hair Day????

Officers responded to Ebony Roots for a disturbance involving a weapon. Upon their arrival, Officers contacted salon employees who reported a Black male walked in demanding a refund for his girlfriend’s hairdo.

The owner told Officers the male was very loud-mouthed and confrontational telling her he had to take his girlfriend to the south side and shell out additional money to have the hairdo repaired. She agreed to refund the money, but the suspect refused it and left.

A female returned asking for the money, but the owner requested that the suspect return to pick it up. The suspect did return, but stopped by his vehicle and removed a firearm.  He then walked towards the salon pointing the weapon at the employees, still cursing and shouting at them. The women ran inside and secured the door.

The suspect fled in a white four-door vehicle. He is described as a Black male, 35 to 40 years of age, 5’2″ to 5’3 feet tall and weighing 320 lbs. The suspect was last seen wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans.  He fled on National Drive in a white Nissan.

Reckless Drunk Driver Jailed After Fleeing From Police

Occurred on 11/21/11, 10:31 p.m.  Evading Arrest and DWI   Prescott/Tarlton     1111210169 

Officers attempted to pull over a black Chevrolet pick-up truck for driving recklessly, but the driver refused to stop.  The Officers were advised the vehicle registration was not valid.  The driver led Officers in a  slow speed pursuit throughout the neighborhood.

As the supervisor was about to call off the pursuit, the driver threw a small package out the window.  A search for the package was unsuccessful.  Officers spiked the vehicle’s tires at Gollihar and Carroll Lane, but the driver continued fleeing from Officers.  The suspect pulled into the driveway of 4817 Kostoryz Road and stopped. 

Nancy Ann Ybanez (12/14/62) who appeared to be intoxicated was administered Standard Field Sobriety Tests and a Mandatory Blood Draw.  Ybanez was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated 3rd or More and Evading Arrest in a Vehicle.  She was additionally charged with an outstanding Pardon and Parole warrant.

Trauma Call Turns Violent

Occurred on 11/21/11, 7:51 p.m. Assault on a Public Servant/Resisting Arrest 3527 Colonial Court 1111210150, 1111210151, 11210153  

Officers responded to the residence for a trauma with injuries. Officers arrived to find Arthur Rudy Avila (09/21/84) highly intoxicated and standing in the street. 

Officers confirmed Avila had fallen off the roof and as they continued with their investigation,  Avila became belligerent and intent on causing a disturbance.  Avila was in the process of being escorted onto to the sidewalk when he began to struggle and fight with the Officers. 

During the struggle one of the Officers was knocked to the ground and struck his head on the pavement.   CCFD Emergency Personnel assisted in restraining the struggling suspect.   Avila’s cousin Richard Soliz (02/19/86) who was being held back by his Avila’s girlfriend broke free and charged at the Officers. Soliz was tased as he cocked his fist back to punch at the Officer. 

While Officers were struggling with both suspects, Avila’s girlfriend Mary Lightfoot (02/15/87) tried to hinder the Officers’ arrest of both suspects. Lightfoot jumped on the Officers, pulling at their hands, yelling and cursing at them that her mother was a paralegal and an attorney. Officers requested emergency back-up when multiple family members exited the residence.

Upon their arrival, all three suspects were arrested.  Avila was charged with Public Intoxication, Resisting Arrest and an outstanding Municipal Court warrant.  Soliz was charged with Assault Causes Bodily Injury Public Servant and Resisting Arrest, while Lightfoot was charged with Interference with Public Duties.

 

Five Finger Discount Shopping Lands Suspect Behind Bars

Officers responded to Billy Bob’s Western Wear for a theft which just occurred.  The caller advised he was a Billy Bob’s employee who was following a shoplifting suspect who fled in a white 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera.  The employee advised the suspect had stolen several  jeans valued at $300.

Officers pulled over the Ciera as it turned into the parking lot of the Five Points Shopping Center.   They contacted the passenger Rachel Carrillo Flores (07/26/65) who was positively identified as the shoplifting suspect.  The stolen blue jeans were recovered and returned to Billy Bob’s.

Flores was arrested and charged with Theft ~ Shoplifting.   The 55-year-old driver was identified and released.

Electric Company Imposter Burglarizes Elderly Victim’s Residence

Officers contacted the 74-year-old victim who reported her residence was burglarized.  The victim who was uninjured told Officers she answered the door and a male subject identified himself as an electric company employee,  He told the victim he would be installing power lines in her backyard.

The victim met the suspect in the backyard, leaving her front door unlocked.  The suspect excused himself  to retrieve equipment from his work truck, but failed to return to the backyard.  The victim waited for several minutes and returned inside her residence.

Once inside she found her residence had been ransacked and several pieces of her jewelry stolen.    The electric company employee was nowhere to be found.  The victim believes the suspect was accompanied by another male.

The first suspect is described as a White male, 25 to 430 years of age, 5’8″ to 6′ feet tall, and weighing 130 to 140 lbs.  He was last seen wearing a plaid shirt and blue jeans.  There is no description available on the second suspect.  Anyone having any information regarding this crime is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS or the Corpus Christi Police Department Property Crimes Unit. at 361-886-2841.

In order to “Keep Corpus Christi Safe” we encourage everyone to be extra careful when unexpected visitors knock on your door.  Please utilize the peep-hole and your door security chain.   The door chain allows you to speak with visitors without allowing them entry into your home.

AEP Texas representative, Andy Heines confirmed  AEP employees who contact residents usually have a pre-arranged appointment.  The employees can be identified by both their AEP identification and company uniform along with the company’s logo on their vehicles.  Should a concern arise, Mr. Heines suggests that the resident call their Customer Service  Office at 1-877-373-4858 for employment verification.

If you are contacted by an individual in a similar situation, write down their vehicle’s license plate number along with a description of the individual.  If you have access to a camera or phone with a camera take a quick picture, but remain inside the safety of your home.  If you feel you are being targeted by one of these imposters, call  911.

Employee’s Quick Thinking Foils Robbery Attempt

Occurred on 11/19/11, 7:33 p.m.  Aggravated Robbery   3022 Leopard     1111190138 

Officer Z. Johnson responded to Robbery in progress at the Boat and Net located at 3022 Leopard.  The caller reported they heard loud knocking at the back door and when the employee looked out the peep-hole he saw one male with a black ski mask on and another in the process of putting it on.  The employee called police and kept the door secure. 

The Officer arrived within a minute of the call and observed the two unmasked males walking away from the business and ordered them stop.  One of the males fled as he discarded his mask and knife.  The second suspect Justin Gutierrez (08/12/94) was arrested. 

Gutierrez was charged Aggravated Robbery.  

The second suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 16 to 19 years of age, 5’5″ to 5’8″ feet tall, and weighing 140 to 160 lbs.  He was last seen wearing all black clothing.
