Police Investigate Unusual Shooting

Occurred on 11/13/11, 02:52 a.m.   Aggravated Assault   3049 Greenwood     1111130032

Officers responded to the Whataburger located at 2424 Baldwin and contacted a 33-year-old female who told Officers she had been shot in the area of 3000 Greenwood.

The victim and the three other female passengers in the her vehicle told Officers they were meeting up with a friend when she failed to make a turn.  The victim pulled into the Lone Star parking lot and made a u-turn when they observed a Hispanic female yelling at them.

The female was standing in front of a residence at 3049 Greenwood and accompanied by a Hispanic male who handed her a firearm.   The female then pointed the firearm and shot at the victim’s vehicle striking the driver.

The victim sustained a small puncture wound to her face and transported to Spohn Memorial.

The female suspect is described as a small built Hispanic female about 25 to 35 years of age.  She was last seen wearing a t-shirt with shorts.  No additional suspect description available on the male at this time.

Pedstrian Struck Crossing Ocean Drive

Occurred on 11/13/11, 11:59 p.m.   Major Accident   3500 Ocean Drive C1108211     

Officers responded to a major accident involving a pedestrian in the 3500 block of Ocean Drive.  Upon their arrival, Officers were told a 30-year-old male was walking across the street in an area in which a cross walk is not provided.  

He was struck by a gold 2000 Chevrolet S-10 pick-up truck driven by a 34-year-old female.  He sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Spohn Memorial for medical treatment by CCFD Emergency Personnel.

The driver was questioned and released pending the results of the investigation.  No charges have been filed at this time.

Drunk Driver Arrested, Also Charged with Two Counts of Evading Arrest

Occurred on 11/13/11, 02:06 a.m.   D.W.I./Evading Arrest   1111130024

An Officer was approaching the intersection at Baldwin and S. Port when he observed a white 1993 Chevrolet Lumina approaching him at a  high rate of speed.   The Officer pulled to a stop just as the vehicle ran the stop sign and nearly  struck him.

The Officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused to stop and fled.  The driver who had his headlights off continued driving recklessly, running several stop signs, and swerving all over the road.  

Officers pursued the vehicle to the area of Noakes and Palm where he threw out a beer can.  He then drove onto IH 37  towards the SH 286 interchange, and pulled to a stop on the southbound side of SH 286. 

The driver fled on foot across SH 286 onto the northbound lanes as Officer gave chase.  The driver Islas Candelario (09/16/85) was tased and arrested. 

Candelario who appeared to be intoxicated was issued a  Breath Test and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Evading Arrest in a Vehicle, and Evading Arrest on Foot.

A passenger in the vehicle was released at the scene.

Neighbor Foils Burglary, Shot Twice

Occurred on 11/13/11, 2:19 a.m.   Aggravated Assault   2006 Airline Road     1111130028 

Officers responded to the Christiwood Apartment complex for a disturbance in progress with shots fired.  Upon their arrival, Officers found a 29-year-old Hispanic male lying on the floor bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds.  The victim told Officers he heard noises coming from a neighboring apartment and went to investigate.  He found several individuals burglarizing the apartment. 

The suspects fled from the apartment and he gave chase.  One of the suspects, produced a firearm and fired twice at the victim striking him in the leg and shoulder.  The victim was transported to Spohn Memorial for medical treatment by CCFD Emergency Personnel.

Further investigation revealed the neighbor’s aparment had indeed been burglarized.   Witnesses told Officers they observed two Hispanic males by the burglarized apartment and shortly thereafter heard several shots being fired.

The first suspect is described as a Hispanic male wearing a red hoody with a bandana covering his face. 

The second suspect is also described as a Hispanic male and wearing a blue hoody.

No other suspect information is available at this time.  Both the burglaryand shooting remain an active and ongoing investigation.

Momma Told Me Not To Run

Occurred on 11/10/11,  5:54 p.m.   Evading Arrest/Wanted Subject   1400 Coahuila     1111100090   

Officers J. Fenner and J. Luera were patrolling  the area of Los Encinos when they observed wanted subject Victor Smith (09/24/91) in the backyard of 1401 Coahuila.

Officers confirmed Smith was still wanted and returned to pick him up.  Upon seeing  the Officers, Smith fled inside the residence.  Smith’s mother told Officers he was inside the residence and would have him come to the door.

As Officer’s were talking to Smith’s mother, he jumped out a window and fled on foot.  A short foot pursuit ensued and Smith was quickly apprehended.

Smith was arrested and charged with an outstanding Nueces County warrant for Possession of Marijuana (No Bond) and Evading Arrest.

Two Injured In Accident, Intoxication Assault Investigation Ongoing

Officers responded to a major accident involving a Toyota 4-Runner which flipped over several times.  Upon their arrival, Officers found the Toyota 4-Runner still on its roof.

Witnesses reported to Officers the 20-year-old driver of a maroon 1995 Toyota 4-Runner was driving at a high rate of speed when he failed to stop for the red light.  He was struck by a gray 2008 Toyota Corolla causing his vehicle to flip.  The driver attempted to flee on foot but was detained by witnesses.  

Officers contacted the driver who appeared to be intoxicated, but was not administered Standard Field Sobriety Tests due to his serious injuries.  He was transported to Spohn Memorial by CCFD Emergency Personnel for treatment and a Blood Draw.

The 71-year-old driver of  the Corolla sustained an injury to her foot and taken to Spohn South. 

The Intoxication Assault investigation is ongoing, but the 20-year-old driver was cited with Failure to Stop at Red Light/Designated Place and Expired License Plate.  He was additionally charged with  Open Container and Consumption In Certain Public Places when an open bottle of  liquor was found in the vehicle.

He was also found  to be wanted on a Probation Violation  for Possession of Marijuana.

Accomplice Drags Robbery Suspect and Loss Prevention Officer

Officers responded to La Palmera Mall for multiple calls involving an abduction, robbery, and theft.  Upon their arrival, Officers contacted J.C. Penny’s Loss Prevention Agent who reported he observed a Hispanic male and Hispanic female shoplifting inside the store.  Both suspects were contacted outside the store as they were entering their vehicle.

The male suspect began to drive off as the female suspect was getting in the vehicle.  The female suspect and the loss prevention agent were  both dragged  across the parking lot.  The male suspect fled in a green Chrysler Sebring.

Elizabeth Villarreal (04/30/68) and the 40-year-old loss prevention agent sustained several abrasions as a result of being dragged.  They were both treated by CCFD Emergency Personnel.

Villarreal was medically cleared at Spohn Memorial and arrested.  She was charged with Robbery.

Further investigation revealed her accomplice’s identity.  Eloy Rodriguez (03/01/67) was located at 1630 Spicewood and arrested.  He was charged with Robbery and an outstanding warrant.   The suspect vehicle, a green Sebring was impounded.

The stolen merchandise valued $580. was recovered and returned to J.C. Penney’s.

“Drag Racer” Arrested, Vehicle Impounded

Occurred on 11/6/11, 10:57 p.m.   Racing On Highway   Cooper’s Alley St./n. Shoreline Boulevard     1111060160 

An Officer was in the 200 block of S. Shoreline when he heard the distinctive sound of two vehicles racing.  A black Chevrolet Camaro and brown Chevrolet Blazer were seen racing one another as they traveled northbound on Shoreline.

The Officer was able to pull over the black Camaro, but the Blazer raced on, fleeing northbound on Shoreline.  The driver, Cesar Acosta (05/26/92) was arrested and charged with Racing on a Highway.  The Camaro was impounded.

DWI Driver Arrested in “Bumper Car” Accident

Occurred on 11/05/11, 2:17 a.m. Driving While Intoxicated Staples St. and Williams St. 1111050017

Officers were at the Stripes Convenience Store located at Staples and Williams when they were witnesses to an unusual accident. Officers observed a red 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier strike a black 2006 Buick Le Sabre from behind. The driver of the Cavalier then backed up and hit a black 2010 Dodge Charger.

The driver of the Cavalier continued to drive forward and backwards, striking both vehicles a couple of more times. The Officers detained the driver, Kaitlin Marie Gomez (12/13/90) who appeared to be intoxicated. She was administered Standard Field Sobriety Tests and a Blood Draw.

Gomez was medically cleared and arrested. She was charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

The occupants of the Buick Le Sabre were not injured, but the driver and passenger of the Dodge Charger were transported to Spohn Shoreline with minor injuries.

Wanted San Patricio Murder Suspect Arrested in Corpus Christi

Occurred 11/04/11, 1:51 a.m.  Wanted Suspect   3918 Leigh Drive     1111040011, 1111040015, 11110400116

Corpus Christi Police Department Officers assisted the U.S. Marshal’s Gulf Coast Violent Offenders  and Fugitive Task Force in the arrest of  a Mathis murder suspect who was found to be hiding out at 3918 Leigh Drive.   

Daniel Lara (08/18/87) was arrested and charged with an outstanding San Patricio county warrant for Murder.  

Further investigation revealed Eric Elizondo (07/24/85) aided Lara in an attempt to avoid arrest.  Elizondo was charged with Hindering Apprehension.

Anthony Diaz (09/21/83) who was also inside the residence was found to be wanted.  Diaz was arrested and charged with an outstanding Nueces County warrant for Assault.
