Wide Array of Drugs Seized in Afternoon Raid, Two Arrested

The Corpus Christi Narcotics and Vice Investigation Division assisted by the SWAT Team served a search and arrest warrant at 337 Norton Street this afternoon.  Investigators seized the following narcotics from the residence:

Marijuana~ 36.85 ounces/2.30 lbs with a street value of $1,000
Powder Cocaine~36 grams with a street value of $1,800
Crack Cocaine~23.3 grams with a street value of $1,000
Black Tar Heroin~884.97 grams/31.6 ounces/1.98 lbs with a street value of $85,000
Hydrocodone Pills~110.4 grams with a street value of $700

Dwayne Dimas (09/12/76) a known gang member and Sophia B. Dimas (06/22/78) were both arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.  The charge is a 1st Degree Felony is punishable by up to 99 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Captain David Cook states, “The investigation is ongoing and there may be additional arrests before the investigation is concluded.”

18-Year-Old Clerk Injured During Robbery

Officers responded to the Adult Video store and contacted the 18-year-old store clerk who reported she was physically assaulted and robbed by a man who acting as a customer.  The victim told Officers the man selected a DVD, but walked outside without purchasing the merchandise leaving the DVD at the checkout counter. 

The man returned to the counter and acted like he was going to pay for the DVD, but began punching the clerk instead.  The suspect punched the victim in the face and head, knocking her to the floor.

The suspect was able to take an undetermined amount of money from the register and fled.  He is described a bald Hispanic male, 26 to 29 years of age, and 5’8” to 5’9” feet tall.  He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans.

Off-duty Officer Catches Burglar Breaking into Neighbor’s Car

Officer J. Lerma on his way home from an off-duty job checked his neighborhood after a neighbor had reported being burglarized last week.  Officer Lerma found Ernesto Silva (08/10/66) burglarizing his neighbor’s truck. 

Silva fled upon seeing the Officer who followed him and reported the burglary.  Officer followed Silva to the 330 block of Briarhurst where Silva pulled over.  Upon seeing the Officer, Silva raised his hands in surrender.  Officer Lerma arrested Silva who was found to have two of his neighbor’s fishing rods inside the vehicle. 

The fishing rods which had the victim’s name engrave on them were valued at $760 and were returned to him.  Silva was booked at the City Detention Center and charged with Burglary of a Vehicle.  The crime is Class “A” Misdemeanor and punishable by up to one year in jail and a $4,000 fine.

The Financial Crimes Division is asking the public’s assistance to help identify two suspects involved in  a Credit Card Abuse investigation  in which credit cards were used at the Wal-Mart and Walgreens on Saratoga. The victim’s credit cards were taken in an auto burglary from Gold’s Gym earlier in the day. 

The female is described as a heavyset White female with a tattoo on her right shoulder.  She was last seen wearing shorts and a tank top.  She was also accompanied by a thin White male wearing work boots, tan pants and a gray t-shirt.

Mr. Wilson Arrested After He’s Found Passed Out at Whataburger

Officers responded to the Whataburger for a drunk male inside the restaurant who had fallen asleep.  The man was woken up by the Officer and asked to go outside.  The Officer reports the man shook his head no and went back to sleep.  The man refused to wake up a second time, but the Officer finally convinced him to rouse from his intoxicated induced slumber. 

Rolando David Wilson (04/26/89) was being escorted out of the restaurant when he tried to punch the Officer.  Wilson tried reaching for his back pocket as he was being cuffed, but the Officer pushed his hand away.  Wilson was handcuffed and arrested. 

A steak knife was found in his pocket.  Wilson was charged with Public Intoxication, Resisting Arrest and two outstanding Nueces County warrants for Probation Violation Motion to Revoke Probation on Larceny and Possession of Marijuana charges.  No Bond set on both warrants.

19-Year-Old Assaults Officers Investigating Disturbance

Officers responded to a disturbance call at Ophraka’s Restaurant when they observed a male matching the description of the suspect involved in the parking lot.  The male hid behind a Suburban in the parking lot, but Officers could see his feet as he paced back and forth, finally deciding to walk away.  

The Officers caught up to Brandon Michael Williams (08/06/92) and a struggle ensued when one Officer tried to check him for weapons.  As the Officers struggled with Williams he kept reaching for his waistband.  Williams continued to resist and was able to loosen one hand and hit one of the Officers on the bridge of his nose and forehead with the handcuff.   All three fell to the ground continued to resist and began tugging at one of the Officer’s duty belt.   Williams also bit the other Officer on the forearm, breaking the skin. 

Williams was tased and he complied with Officers allowing them to handcuff him.  While struggling with Williams, a firearm fell out of his waistband.  Williams was arrested and medically cleared by CCFD Emergency Personnel before being booked at the City Detention Center.  He was charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon, and Resisting Arrest, Search or Transport. 

The Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer is a 1st Degree Felony and is punishable by up to 99 years and a fine of $10,000.  The Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon is a Class “B” Misdemeanor and punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.  The Resisting Arrest charge is upgraded to a 3rd Degree Felony when a weapon is used and punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

One Officer received treatment at Spohn Memorial for the bite wound.

y Crimes Unit is asking for your assistance in identifying a thief responsible for taking several bottles of wine valued at $641.  Surveillance video shows the suspect walk into the store grab a bottle of wine and then walk over to the baby aisle where he conceals the bottle of wine in a bag.  The suspect then walks out of the store.

The suspect is described as White male, 44 to 47 years of age, 6’1″ feet  tall, and weighing 265 lbs.  He was seen wearing a Texas Rangers cap, black t-shirt, and blue jean shorts.

Felon + Loaded Gun + Bike Ride = Jail

An Officer checking his beat for burglars observed a Hispanic male ride through the parking lot of H.E.B. at a high rate of speed.  The male was carrying a blue plastic case and continued on ignoring a Stop Sign  at the intersection of Tarlton and MacArthur.  The Officer followed the bicyclist who pulled into a yard and began trying to open the blue case he’d been carrying.

As the Officer approached the male continued to open the case, but when he was unable to do, he rode away.  The bicyclist refused to stop when ordered to do so.  Both the Officer and bicyclist fell to the ground with the Officer trying to restrain the suspect.  The suspect continued to struggle with the Officer swinging at him with the blue case.  During the struggle the Officer deployed his taser  and the suspect fell to the  pavement, but continued to resist, attempting to run off.  Backup Officers arrived and Marcos Palacios (05/26/77) was placed in handcuffs.  Officers retrieved  the blue case and found it contained a loaded handgun

Palacios was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Firearm and Resisting Arrest.  The weapons charge is a 3rd Degree Felony and punishable by up to ten years and a $10,000 fine.

 

Police and Fire Chiefs Donate Blood for 10th Annual Guns N’ Hoses Challenge

Corpus Christi Police Chief F. Simpson and Fire Chief  Rocha were the first ones to donate blood in the Coastal Bend Blood Center’s Annual Guns N” Hoses Blood Drive Challenge.   This annual competition has pitted firefighters and police officers against one another in a friendly challenge to bring in the most blood donations during the month of July.

Did you know that a you can save up to three lives with a blood donation?  The Coastal Bend Blood Center reports there is a shortage of all types of  blood, especially during the summer and winter months.  ALL blood types are needed and we ask that you join us in donating blood.

The blood center has opened up the Gun’s N’ Hoses Competition to the entire Coastal Bend. If you have a friend or a relative working for police and fire in the Coastal Bend, we  would like to you to join us in the competition.  Please donate blood at any Coastal Bend Blood Center event and dedicate your donation to either “Guns” or Hoses.”  At the end of the month the CBBC will announce the winner when all blood donations are tallied.

Traffic Stop Nets Wanted Murder Suspect

Officer T. Bauer pulled over a black Chrysler 300 for failing to signal its left as it turned from Tarlton Street onto Prescott Street.  During the traffic stop,  the passenger kept looking away from the Officer and unable to provide any identification.  The passenger identified himself as “Frank Lopez,” but  the date of birth given did not match the age told to the Officer.   

The Officer continued his investigation and the driver Jessica Lopez (03/09/86) was unable to identify her passenger or unable to come up with a plausible story of when she met him.  In the vehicle was Lopez’ one-year-old daughter.

While “Frank” was being checked for weapons Officers found his wallet in his pants pocket.  Inside was “Frank Lopez”  driver’s license which identified him as Jose Alfredo Moreno who was wanted for Murder.  Moreno (06/09/83) was arrested on the outstanding warrants.  Lopez who is the mother of Moreno’s daughter was also arrested for hindering Moreno’s apprehension.  Their daughter was later released to her Aunt.

During the impound inventory, Officer Bauer found a plastic bag with several individually wrapped sandwich bags containing Crystal Methamphetamine underneath the passenger seat where Moreno was sitting.  Also found was a scale and a box of sandwich bags next to the child’s car seat.  The approximate weight of the methamphetamine was 161 grams and 223 grams of an unidentified crystal substance. 

Moreno and Lopez were each charged with Possession of Controlled Substance, Abandon/Endanger a Child~Criminal Negligence, and Possession/Deliver of Drug Paraphernalia.  Moreno was additionally charged with the outstanding warrant for Murder and Aggravated Assault and Failure to Identify as a Fugitive from Justice.  Each warrant had a bond set at $500,000.  Lopez was also charged with an outstanding Municipal Court warrant.

Lt. Lauren White states, “Officer Bauer is one of the most proactive Officers on my shift and I’m not surprised he did a thorough investigation to identify Moreno.”
