Patrol Report 05/13/2016

The Corpus Christi Police Department responded to 1045 calls for service and generated 224 reports for formal criminal complaints from 7:00 a.m. May 12 to 7:00 a.m. on May 13, 2016. Case Number: 1605120127
A 25 year old female called Corpus Christi Police after her ex-boyfriend tried to stab her while she was at his apartment, located at 5901 Weber Road.

The female told Officers that she was attempting to leave the apartment when an argument started with her ex-boyfriend about her leaving. The ex-boyfriend grabbed a kitchen knife and told the female she wasn’t going anywhere.

The female said that she tried to grab the knife and cut her hand. The male then grabbed her arm and pushed her down.  The female was able to get up and run out the front door and get into her vehicle that was parked in the parking lot and lock herself inside.

Officers arrested the ex-boyfriend, Randall Kirchner (06/11/1992), for felony assault.

The female was not seriously injured.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a male driver for DWI after he was involved in a crash at the intersection of Holly Road and Carroll Lane.

A crash investigation by Officers determined that the male driver was traveling east on Holly Road in his 2006 Ford Mustang when he ran into the rear of a stopped 1993 Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 20 year old female, who was waiting for a red light at the intersection.

Neither driver was injured.

After an investigation, it was determined that the male driver of the Ford, Dometrio Moralez 910/02/1991), was intoxicated and he was arrested.

A 66 year old female called Corpus Christi Police after she discovered someone stole a package she was expecting from the front porch of her home located in the 1100 block of Cornerstone Drive.

The female told Officers she was expecting Federal Express to deliver a package.  When it did not arrive, she went to check the video security system that records the outside of her home.  The women was able to see that the package was delivered just before 10 AM and then an hour later a car drove up and a female walked up to the front door, picked up the package and then walked back to the waiting car.

The suspect vehicle was a small black two door car and the suspect was described as a white female with blonde hair.  She was last seen wearing a black short sleeve shirt and khaki shorts.

At this time the female suspect has not been identified.

Case Number: 1605110096
Store employees at a business, located at 5626 Saratoga Boulevard, called Corpus Christi Police after they confronted two suspects about shoplifting and one of them pulled out a knife and threatened an employee.

The employee told Officers that he had observed two males stealing merchandise.  When the two tried to walk out of the store without paying for the items, they were confronted outside in the parking lot.

One of the men pulled out a knife and threatened a store employee.  When the employee backed off, the two men got into a 2002 Oldsmobile sedan. As they were pulling out of the parking space they attempted to run over the store employee with their vehicle. The employee was slightly injured with bumps and bruises while trying to get out of the way of the vehicle.

The suspect vehicle then exited the parking lot.

Officers were able to obtain a license plate of the suspect vehicle, however, at this time they have not located the two suspects.

Officers are also investigating whether these two suspects were involved in a theft case at the Target Store, located in Moore Plaza, earlier in the day.

Case Number: 1605110095
A female texted her neighbor asking her to call Corpus Christi Police after her husband got violent with her over some social media posts she had made earlier in the day.

A 31 year old female said she and her husband were having an argument over Facebook postings on her account.  The argument escalated to the point that the female texted her neighbor to call police.

When Officers arrived the female heard them knocking on the front door and at that moment her husband grabbed her by the neck and pushed her against the wall.   He then covered her mouth with one hand and tried to choke her.

As Officers continued to knock on the door, the man took her to a back bedroom and pushed her on the bed, got on top of her and placed a pillow over her head, in another attempt to keep her from calling out.  When he realized the Officers were not leaving, he eventually got off of her and went to the front door to open it.

Officers arrested the husband, Gilbert Lopez (10/13/1986), for felony assault and unlawful restraint.

The female was not seriously injured.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a man after he was found cutting copper wire off an electric pole located in the 3800 block of South Port Avenue.

Officers arrived and found the man on a bicycle with freshly cut wire hanging from the handle bars of his bike. When they stopped him they found more cut wires in a backpack he was carrying along with a set of wire cutter pliers.

Officers located the AEP pole that the wire is believed to have come from.  At the base of the pole Officers found even more cut wire laying on the ground beside the pole.

Officers arrested Ivan Calderon-Rodriguez (03/04/1989), for felony theft.

Case Number: 1605110014
Three men called Corpus Christi Police after they were robbed at gunpoint while parked outside of a restaurant located at 602 South Padre Island Drive.

The three men, ranging in age between 18 to 19 years old, told Officers that they pulled into the restaurant parking lot and were sitting in their vehicle talking when someone opened the rear driver’s side door to their car and jumped into the back seat. The suspect pulled a gun on the three men and then began to demand money from them.

After one of the men gave the suspect his wallet, the suspect got out and jumped into the passenger side of a waiting tan Chevrolet Trailblazer and sped away.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was described as a black male between 20 and 25 years old.

The suspect with the gun that got into the vehicle was described as a Hispanic male between 25 and 35 years old with a goatee.

At this time no suspects have been identified.

Corpus Christi Police are investigating whether two separate incidents of shots being fired at homes in the same neighborhood are related.

Officers responded to a home, located in the 5200 block of Carriage Lane, after the homeowner there heard several shots being fired outside his home.  Officers arrived and located five shell casing in the driveway of the home.  The homeowner did not find any damage to his property.

At about the same time, Officers responded to a home located in the 5200 block of Shasta Lane, and found that a home there had been hit by gunfire.

The homeowner there showed the Officers a bullet hole in the garage door.  Officers found that the bullet had traveled through the garage, through a kitchen wall, through the living room, and had landed in wall of a bedroom.

No one in the house was injured.

At this time, Officers have not identified a suspect in either of these deadly conduct cases.

Case Number: 1605050169
A 33 year old man called Corpus Christi Policed after he was assaulted by the ex-husband of a female while he was trying to help her change a flat tire.

It all started when the man saw the ex-husband hit the female through her open car window as she sat in the driver seat of her car in the parking lot of a bar located at 1724 North Tancahua Street.

The ex-husband then walked away, and the man went to the car to check on the female.  He noticed that she had a busted lip from the assault.  He also noticed that one of her front tires on her vehicle was flat and he offered to change it for her.

While in the process of changing the flat tire, the ex-husband returned to the car and began to yell at the man who was changing the tire.  The ex-husband pushed the man, and then pulled out a pocket knife from his pants.

The man was able to punch the ex-husband in the face and slap the knife away.  While slapping the knife away the man suffered a minor cut to one of his fingers.

Officers arrested the ex-husband, Daniel Molina, (09/02/1966), for aggravated assault.  Officers also determined he had a protective order against him forbidding him from contacting his ex-wife.  He was additionally charged for violating that court order.

Case Number: 1605060005
A male driver was arrested for DWI by Corpus Christi Police after he crashed his truck into a home located at 7301 Alberta Circle.

The crash investigation revealed that the driver of a 2012 Toyota Tacoma was traveling south in the 2500 block of Quebec Drive when he lost control of his truck, veered off the roadway and struck the front of a home on Alberta Circle.

The driver attempted to walk away from the crash scene, but Officers caught up to him a short distance away.

After an investigation Officers determined that the driver, Stephen James Duke (10/19/1982), was intoxicated and he was arrested.

Case Number: 1605060001
A female was arrested by Corpus Christi Police after she used her car as a weapon and intentionally struck another vehicle with her brother’s girlfriend inside.

Officers arrived at a convenience store, located at 3102 Ayers Street, and were told that a 2002 Ford Escape with a 35 year old female driver and her 32 year old boyfriend were in the store parking lot.  A 2007 Mitsubishi Galant sedan, driven by the sister of the boyfriend, pulled into the parking lot and blocked the Ford Escape in.

When the driver of the Ford Escape tried to back out around the car that had blocked her in, the female driver of the Mitsubishi intentionally drove into the Ford Escape twice striking the driver’s side door.

No one in either vehicle was injured.

Officers arrested the sister, Jennifer Ramos (02/05/1992), who said she was upset at her brother for getting back together with his girlfriend.

A 21 year old man called Corpus Christi Police after he went for a jog around Middlecoff Park and returned to find his vehicle had been stolen.

The male victim told Officers that he went to the park for a run and parked his 2012 Chevrolet Colorado truck along the street.   He said that he left his windows down and his keys in the vehicle only to return and find it gone about 45 minutes later.

At about 5:00 PM, Officers found the stolen truck after it had been involved in a crash with a utility pole in the 1800 block of Lexington Avenue.

The suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Officers recovered the truck, however, no suspects have been identified.

A 36 year old female was attacked in the parking lot of a restaurant, located at 6505 Everhart Road, by her ex-husband.

Officers arrived and found the female on the ground outside of the restaurant with several bumps and bruises.  She told Officers that she was attacked as she was walking in the parking lot by her ex-husband who had seen her as he passed by.

The ex-husband, Chad Mills (01/29/1976), left prior to police arrival, however, Officers were able to catch up to him a short time later and he was arrested for assault.

The female was treated at the scene for her injuries by CCFD EMS.

Corpus Christi Police are investigating who passed by a home, located in the 1700 block of Sunbeam Drive, and fired a shot from a gun that struck the residence.

Officers arrived at the home and were told that three adults were in the living room watching television when they heard the shot.  They then saw a hole in the wall in the room they were in.

Officers checked the house and found that the bullet came through the garage door and then traveled through the living room entering the back wall across the room.

No one inside the home was injured.

At this time, no suspects have been identified.

Case Number: 1605030082
A man on parole could be in trouble with the courts after he tried to falsify a drug screen test while visiting his parole officer at 5233 Interstate Highway 37.

Corpus Christi Police were called to the parole office after an officer noticed a foreign substance in the urine specimen of a man who was there checking in.  When the parole officer questioned the man about the substance in the specimen sample, he said it was not his and he had got the urine from some guy on the street. The man then hid the fake specimen in a travel size shampoo bottle in his pants and then used it when the parole officer requested he provide a specimen of his for drug screening.

Police took the man’s name and they will forward the information provided by the parole officer to the courts to see if any charges will be filed.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a man after he stole a vehicle and then crashed it trying to evade Officers at the intersection of South Staples Street and South Padre Island Drive.

Officers received a call from the Port Police Department that they were taking a report of a stolen truck from a convenience store located at 1141 Cantwell Street. The Port Police Officer was told that the victim’s 2004 Ford F250 truck was being tracked by On Star.  Corpus Christi Police were notified that On Star had tracked the truck to the area of 4600 South Staples Street. An Officer arrived and found the truck, still occupied, near the intersection of South Padre Island Drive.

When the suspect driving the truck saw the Officer he attempted to speed off, crashing into a 2015 Ford Mustang driven by a 16 year old man. The suspect then fled the truck on foot, leaving it in gear, and rolling without anyone inside.  The stolen truck, which was driver-less now, then collided with a Corpus Christi Police car.

After a short foot pursuit, Officers were able to arrest the suspect Esteban Deases Jr. (02/27/1977). He did suffer a broken shoulder as a result of the crash.  Officers took him to Spohn Memorial Hospital to be treated before he was taken to the City Detention Center.

No one else was injured in the crash.

Case Number: 1605020052
Corpus Christi Police were called to a store, located at 3829 Interstate Highway 69, after employees at the business found a counterfeit bill.

Officers arrived at the store and were told that a clerk had accepted the fake $100 bill during a transaction last week.  Store management was notified of the bill today after they gave it to a customer who noticed it was counterfeit and returned it to the store.   The store then called police.

Store management said the clerk, who did not have a counterfeit money pen, accepted the fake bill from a Hispanic female with red hair, who was last seen wearing a green shirt with a pink jacket.

At this time that female had not been located.

The fake money was recovered as evidence by Officers.

A father was arrested by Corpus Christi Police after he hit his 38 year old disabled son in the face with his fist several times, causing an injury.

Officers arrived at the family’s home, located in the 2600 block of Arthur Street, and were told by the son that he was in his room when his father came in asking where some yard equipment was.  When the son told him that he did not know, the father hit him in the face several times with his fist.

Officers observed the son to have a large cut over his left eye and CCFD EMS were called to treat his injury.

Officers located the father, Juan Gerardo Deleon (12/19/1954), inside the house and he was arrested for assaulting and injuring a disabled person.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a female after she attempted to steal nearly $900 worth of merchandise from a department store located at 5626 Saratoga Boulevard.

Officers arrived at the store and were told that an employee had seen the female go into a fitting room with several articles of clothing.  When she came out, the employee did not see any of the clothes.  The employee stopped the female after she walked out of the store without paying.

Officers found over $876 worth of stolen clothing in a stroller the female had, and more stolen merchandise in her purse.

Officers arrested, Eilen Puentes-Villafana (01/18/1982), for theft.

Case Number: 1605030015
Corpus Christi Police arrested the driver of a vehicle for DWI and his passenger for possession of a controlled substance after a traffic stop in the 4300 block of Kostoryz Road.

Officers stopped the 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer after they saw it driving down the middle of the street, and not in a single lane of traffic.  After an investigation the driver, Bryan Jones (01/28/1980), was determined to be intoxicated and arrested.

As Officers began to prepare the vehicle to be impounded, they found a transparent plastic bag near the passenger front seat which contained a substance that looked like a chocolate brownie, but it had the smell of marijuana.

Officers determined that the brownie did have marijuana in it, and the front seat passenger, Adam Diamond (05/13/1981), was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, a state jail felony

Corpus Christi Police Homicide Detectives are looking into a dispute that led to a shooting in the parking lot of a nightclub located at 3149 Morgan Avenue.  

Officers arrived at the scene and found a 31 year old female with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head.  The female was transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital by CCFD EMS were she was later pronounced dead.

Witnesses at and around the bar described a disturbance prior to and after the shooting and several persons of interest have been identified.   No arrests have been made at the time of this report.

Detectives continue to investigate this crime.

A female was arrested by Corpus Christi Police after she stripped off all her clothes and began running down the 1600 block of Morgan Avenue toward the Crosstown Freeway.

Several passing motorist called police and when Officers arrived, they found that several citizens had helped stop the female and had got her a blanket to cover herself.

Officers had been looking for the female for an hour after several other motorist called to report a nude female walking along the street.  They were not able to find her until the citizens got her to sit down.

Officers located the females clothing at a bus bench at the corner of Brownlee Boulevard and Morgan Avenue. The female, Holly Bishop (10/28/1965) was arrested for indecent exposure.

Case Number: 1605010089
A 32 year old man, who left his Suburban engine running, while he went into a convenience store, located at 14901 Northwest Boulevard, had it stolen while he was inside.

The man called Corpus Christi Police and told them that when he pulled into the parking lot, he saw a man with no shirt on walking around the store.   The man then went inside and left his 2015 Chevrolet Suburban running with the keys in the ignition.  While talking to the store clerk, he saw the shirtless man get into his vehicle and drive away.

The man was able to give Officers a location of his vehicle when he called OnStar to report the car stolen.  On Star told Officers that the vehicle had been driven outside the city limits of Corpus Christi.

Officers contacted the Nueces County Sheriff Department for assistance, since the vehicle was reported to be on County Road 73 near the Nueces River.   Deputies arrived and did locate the Suburban.  They were also able to arrest the man who had stolen the vehicle, Stephen Sims (05/21/1978).

A man was arrested by Corpus Christi Police after he fired a gun inside the apartment he shared with his wife, located at 5901 Weber Road, and then threatened two neighbors who confronted him about it.

Officers arrived and were told by a 28 year old female, that she and her husband and got into an argument, and when she attempted to call police he took the phone away from her and broke it.

He then went into the bedroom and got out a handgun and fired it into the ceiling of their bedroom. This caused the female to run out of the apartment in fear for her safety.

When the husband walked out of the apartment, he was confronted by his neighbor about the gunfire.  The husband made verbal threats to harm the 26 year old male neighbor.

As the husband began to walk away, he was confronted a second time by another resident of the apartment complex.  That 57 year old man was also threatened by the husband.

Other Officers responding to the call located the husband, Barry Barnett (10/31/1982), walking on Weber Road near O’Day Street.   He was arrested for assault, discharging a firearm, interfering with an emergency call, terroristic threats, and he had an outstanding warrant for his arrests.

Neither the female nor the other residents were injured by the suspect.

A 45 year old man called Corpus Christi Police after he came out of his home, located in the 6600 block of Cousteau Lane, to go to work and found his truck up on blocks and all four tires missing.

Officers arrived and were told by the victim that his 2013 Chevrolet truck was parked in the driveway of his home overnight.  He found the truck sitting on bricks with no rims or tires.

The victim said he had just bought the items for the truck, and estimated the value of everything to be $3,000.

At this time no suspects have been identified.

Corpus Christi Police were called to a nightclub, located at 6410 Weber Road, after a fight broke out between several people as the club was closing.

Officers arrived and determined a disturbance between several men happened inside the club and once they were all outside, they began assaulting another male in the parking lot.

The 38 year old male victim suffered facial injuries from the assault.  He was treated by CCFD EMS at the scene for his injuries.

Sometime during the fight, someone fired five shots from a gun into the air causing everyone involved to run off.

Officers collected the five spent .380 caliber casings as evidence.

No suspects involved in the assault or the suspect who fired the weapon has been identified.

A road rage incident, in the 1900 block of Baldwin Boulevard, ended with a man in jail for shooting a gun at two females in another vehicle.

A 26 year old female called Corpus Christi Police and told them that she was driving west on Baldwin Boulevard when she was cut off by the driver of a Dodge Caravan. The female said that she honked her horn at the vehicle, and a passenger inside the van threw a cup at her car.

The female driver and her 22 year old passenger got upset about the trash being thrown at them and they began to exchange words with the passenger in the van. The driver of the van stopped and got out and pulled out a gun and shot twice in the direction of the two girls.

The female told Officers she stopped her car after hearing the gunshots to let the van pull away from her.  The female called police while following the van as it drove around the area.

When the female saw the van pull into the parking lot of the Housing Authority on Ayers Street, she positioned her vehicle to block the one way in and out access to the parking lot. The driver of the van then reversed into the rear corner of the female’s vehicle at a high rate of speed.

The van was only able to get down the street a short distance before police caught up to it.

Officers arrested the driver, Christopher Trevino (12/31/1993).  The female that had thrown the trash out of the van had already been dropped off and she was not located.

The two females were not injured.

Corpus Christi Police were called after several vehicles parked along different neighborhood streets were all struck by gunfire from a passing car.

Officers arrived after several neighbors called reporting several shots being fired.  Officers found three separate vehicles struck by an unknown caliber bullet in the 3500 block of Fairfax Drive.

The two of the vehicles had the driver side window glass shot out.  A third vehicle had a shattered rear glass window.

While investigating this call, Officers were notified that other vehicles parked on surrounding neighborhood streets had also been damaged by gunfire.   Officers found a car in the 3500 block of North Naylor Street with the driver’s side front and rear glass shot out.

Two other vehicles, one parked in the 3300 block of Southland Street and the other in the 200 block of West Longview Street also had windows shot out.

In all the estimated damage done was nearly $1,500.

At this time, no suspects have been identified.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a man after they caught him tunneling from his storage unit into four others that surrounded his and stealing items from inside.

Officers arrived at the storage unit business, located at 6537 Weber Road, and owners of the business told them that they had found evidence that the renter of one of their storage units had forced entry into neighboring storage units from inside of his unit.

Officers made entry into the storage unit and found that the tin wall separating the units had been pulled off and the renter had entered the next four units through the wall.

Officers then heard movement from inside one of the neighboring storage units and they found the suspect hiding under a blanket.

The suspect, Derick Chitty (03/13/1987), was arrested for the burglary.  He was additionally charged when it was determined that he had two outstanding warrants out for his arrest. One warrant was for dangerous drugs and the other was an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle warrant.

The owner of the business estimated that the damage done to the walls of the units was at least $500.

An employee of a business, located at 4166 South Staples Street, called Corpus Christi Police after two suspects came into the store, grabbed him and tried to force him to let them into the Pharmacy section.

The suspects entered the store and told the employee that they had a gun.  They then started pulling him toward the pharmacy which was already closed.

The employee never saw a weapon, and was able to get way from the two suspects. They both then left the store on foot.

One of the suspects was described as being a heavy set Hispanic male wearing a red shirt and red pants.  He also had a white towel covering his head.

The second suspect was described as a tall heavy set Hispanic male.  He was last seen wearing a yellow striped shirt and white pants.

At this time, no suspects have been identified.

A 24 year old man called Corpus Christi Police after the new boyfriend of his ex-wife ran him off the road and then fired several gunshots at him at the intersection of Nineteenth Street and Mary Street.

Officers arrived and were told by the man that he was driving west on Mary Street when a car belonging to his estranged wife but driven by her new boyfriend drove head on towards him.

The man was able to put his car in reverse and as he tried to out run it traveling backwards, he lost control of his car, spun out and hit the curb.  The new boyfriend then exited the vehicle he was in and opened fire on the man’s car with a handgun striking it three times.

One of the rounds he fired went through the back glass just missing the heads of two passengers in the vehicle.

Luckily no one was injured by the shots that were fired.

The suspect was not located, but the man was able to provide Officers his name.
