Two Taken to ER in Early Evening Accident

A 14-year-old and a 17-year-old were struck by a Chevrolet Impala as they crossed the intersection at Staples and Laredo Streets.

Further investigation revealed the driver of the Impala was traveling northbound on S. Staples when she turned onto Laredo and struck the two females walking through the cross walk.  Both victims were taken to Spohn Memorial with minor injuries.

The 14-year-old was found to be a runaway out of San Antonio and booked at the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center once she was medically cleared.

The 73-year-old driver was cited for Failure to Yield the Right of Way~Pedestrian in Crosswalk.

63-Year-Old Woman Killed in Accident

Police were called to a one vehicle accident in the 2700 block of Morgan.  Witnesses reported to Officers that they observed a white Honda Accord  speeding as it traveled eastbound on Morgan.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and slid sideways striking a couple of trees, a fire hydrant, and a telephone pole.  The driver and sole occupant of the Accord was deceased at the accident scene.

 

 

 

Four Taken to Local Hospitals, Woman Charged with DWI

Police were called to 5400 Carroll Lane for an accident in which the children inside a gold Dodge Durango were being driven away.  Officers arrived to find the Durango had rear-ended a blue Chevrolet Cavalier.  The impact caused the Cavalier to spin, jump the curb and come to a stop in the grass.  The Durango continued traveling southbound on Carroll Lane and hit a tree.

A witness told Police the driver Melissa Lopez (09/27/82) was last seen running through the Carroll Lane Apartments.  Lopez was found by Officers and escorted back to accident scene.

Further investigation revealed that when Lopez was unable to drive off, she removed the Durango’s license plates. She also asked a family member driving behind her to take her 4 and 6-year-olds who were in the SUV at the time of the accident.  The two young girls were taken to Driscoll Children’s Hospital where they were treated for facial injuries.

The 59-year-old driver of the Cavalier and the 52-year-old passenger were both taken to Spohn Memorial by CCFD Emergency Personnel with serious injuries.

Lopez who appeared intoxicated was administered Standard Field Sobriety Tests and a Blood Specimen taken.  She was also positively identified by witnesses and placed under arrest.  Lopez was charged with Driving While Intoxicated~With Child, Resisting Arrest, and Driving While License Suspended/Invalid.

Corpus Christi Police were called to the area to investigate a shooting.  Upon their arrival,  Officers found a man who appeared to be seriously injured. The man was immediately taken to Spohn Memorial by CCFD Emergency Personnel.   The man did not survive his injuries.

Corpus Christi Police are now searching for two men who were in a maroon 4-door Pontiac Grand Am who detectives believe may have some information concerning the 36-year-old man’s death.

Corpus Christi Police Detectives believe one of the men in the Pontiac was about 5 foot 8 inches tall, about 220 pounds, and wore a hoodie.

Police Investigate Murder on Morgan Avenue

A 36-year-old man was fatally injured Monday morning at the intersection of 15th Street and Morgan Avenue.

Corpus Christi Police were called to the area to investigate a shooting. Police Patrol Officers found a 36-year-old man who appeared to be seriously injured. The 36-year-old man was immediately taken to the hospital by ambulance. The man did not survive his injuries.

Corpus Christi Police are now searching for two men who were in a maroon 4 door Pontiac Grand Am who detectives believe may have been responsible for the death of the 36-year-old man. Man Runs From Vehicle Crash Which Injured His Pregnant Wife, Held By Witnesses for Police

A 22-year-old man was arrested Friday morning after he ran from a four vehicle crash which injured his 21-year-old pregnant wife at the intersection of Peoples Street and Water Street.

The 21-year-old pregnant woman and a 45-year-old woman were taken by ambulance to the hospital as a result of the crash.

Isaac Munoz (11/23/1990) drove a red 2006 Jeep Liberty on Peoples Street and red the red light at the intersection with Water Street. The Jeep struck a silver 2012 Nissan Murano which was pushed into two other vehicles.

Munoz was not injured in the crash but the three passengers in the Jeep with Munoz and a passenger in the Murano were injured. The 21-year-old pregnant woman was a passenger in the Jeep and was taken to the hospital by ambulance with unknown extent of injuries. The 45-year-old woman passenger of the Murano was taken to the hospital by ambulance with what are believed to be non life-threatening injuries. The other injuries were considered minor. The Jeep and the Nissan were towed because of the extent of the damage.

Munoz ran from the crash scene but was held by witnesses a block away from the scene until police arrived. Corpus Christi Police Crash Investigators believe Munoz was not intoxicated. Munoz was arrested for failing to remain at the scene of an accident involving injury and received a citation for disregarding the red light. Munoz was then delivered to the city detention center.

Police were called to the residence for a residential burglary which had occurred overnight.  The homeowner told Officers his garage alarm was set off around midnight.  He checked the house and found it to be okay.

Later in the day, he observed his wife’s vehicle had been burglarized.  A neighbor provided video of a suspicious individual walking around the victim’s garage.

Two Men Jailed when found Drinking on the Job

Police were called to Cabaret Gentlemen’s Club for an assault involving an employee.  Upon their arrival, Officers knocked on the door and a male voice answered, but wouldn’t open the door.  Officers knocked again and the man changed his voice disguising it as a female.

Police convinced the manager Abel Edwin Perez (02/11/67) to open the door.  Perez and the door man Julio Ceasar Salazar (09/23/82) were both found to be highly intoxicated inside the business.

Perez and Salazar were both arrested and charged with Public Intoxication.   The victim of the original assault had left prior to Officers’ arrival and was not contacted.

Burglar on Furman Avenue Stopped After Witnesses Call Police

                A 25-year-old man was arrested for burglary of a motor vehicle on the 800 block of Furman Avenue Saturday morning.

A 40-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman saw 25-year-old Juan Garcia (4/13/1987) in their neighbor’s driveway at about 9:00am Saturday morning. The two witnesses saw Garcia get into the neighbors unlocked green 2000 Jeep Liberty. Garcia took tools from the Jeep until the witnesses called Corpus Christi Police.

Garcia walked away from the Jeep until he was apprehended by Corpus Christi Police Patrol Officers. Garcia was arrested and taken to the city detention center for burglary of a motor vehicle; a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and up to a $4,000 fine.

Police Catch Burglars on Alameda Street Moments After Crime

                A 31-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were apprehended by police for a burglary moments after the crime was committed on the 3100 block of South Alameda Street Saturday morning.

A Corpus Christi Police Patrol Officer saw two people walk the street and pull on car door handles on the 2800 block of Lawnview. The Police Officer stopped the 16-year-old boy and 31-year-old Michael Jenkins (4/8/1981) to investigate them as suspects to vehicle burglaries. The two had bags of frozen turkey and packages of tortillas.

The officer heard a call on the radio for other police patrol units to respond to an alarm at a business building on Alameda Street. The officers investigating the alarm call discovered an open back window and an open freezer. The investigating officers connected the items with Jenkins to the alarm call and then Jenkins was arrested for burglary of a building. The 16-year-old boy was taken to the Nueces County Juvenile Detention Center for the burglary and Jenkins was delivered to the city detention center.

Burglary of a building is a stat jail felony punishable by up to two years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
