Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash at the 13500 block of South Padre Island Drive Monday night and discovered 18-year-old Michael Salinas (2/23/1995) was the driver of a green 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee involved in the crash and Salinas was intoxicated. Salinas was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and for Resisting Arrest. Salinas was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation and then to obtain a specimen of his blood for analysis of the blood alcohol concentration.

A 37-year-old man reported to Corpus Christi Police that a man discharged a firearm at an apartment complex during an argument between two men and a woman at 11:55pm Monday night. No injuries or damage was reported.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a theft in progress at a store at 1250 Flour Bluff Drive Tuesday morning. Deonta Jones (12-14-94) had removed his shoes and clothes and put on an entire new outfit, to include boots, pants, shorts, a new shirt, cap, sunglasses (2 pair), and even a wristwatch.  He had removed the tags from some of the items and attempted to flush them, but stopped up the toilet.  He was then observed by the 65-year-old loss prevention employee in the bathroom on the counter, cutting the tags from the remaining items. Jones was arrested for theft and delivered to the city detention center.

A 24-year-old man reported to Corpus Christi Police that his tool box that contained $800 worth of hand tools was taken from the bed of his work truck Monday morning in the parking lot of a store.  A witness said the toolbox was taken by two black men who left in a tan Cadillac four door car. No arrests have yet been made.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 36-year-old Leonardo Chapa (1/23/1977) for a warrant for arrest for Criminal Mischief. Chapa was located on a traffic stop after Chapa drove his gray Dodge Durango through the intersection of Green Tree Drive and Navigation Boulevard without stopping at the stop sign.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer stopped 33-year-old Ruben Davila (9/25/1979) Monday night for riding a bicycle at night without a headlamp. The Officer discovered Davila had a warrant for his arrest for obstructing police. Davila was arrested and delivered to the city detention center.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer stopped 29-year-old Dwight Smith (6/8/1984) Monday night for riding a bicycle at night without a headlamp as required at the intersection of Brendel Lane and Cliff Crenshaw Street. A routine warrants check revealed Smith had an active warrant for his arrest for Assault. Smith was arrested and delivered to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police conducted a traffic stop at the 500 block of Dolores Street on a black 2009 Ford Focus for an obstructed license plate and not signaling a lane change. The Officer smelled burnt marijuana from inside the car. The Officer found marijuana in the car and 18-year-old Raul Pinon (12/2/1994) was arrested for Possession of Marijuana. Pinon was delivered to the city detention center and the vehicle was taken to the city impound.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of theft at 1901 North Shoreline Boulevard Monday afternoon. A 51-year-old man reported several aluminum pieces used to hold protective glass for a hockey rink were taken from a fenced area while the pieces are not in use. Each piece is valued at $40. The 51-year-old man said he saw a man in a maroon passenger car take the pieces. The suspect is described as a white male between the ages of middle 20’s to middle 30’s and stands 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds. Investigators are gathering any information to identify the suspect.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint that a man was inside an apartment and refused to leave Monday afternoon. The complaint was made by the property management and said the apartment was vacant and the man had no right to be inside. The man locked himself in the apartment and refused to come out. Building Maintenance provided Officers access into the apartment where Officers then arrested 39-year-old Christopher Crosby (6/26/1974) for Criminal Trespass and then delivered him to the city detention center.

Offense: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm

A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted a traffic stop Monday afternoon on a blue Chevy Equinox because the driver was not wearing a seat belt. The driver and the front passenger ran from the vehicle once the vehicle was stopped. Two other people were in the backseat of the vehicle with a loaded AK47 rifle and a revolver pistol.  Police arrested 23-year-old Eligio Mendez (9/26/1989) and 39-year-old Tanya Gonzalez (1/29/1974) for the possession of a firearm by a felon because both Mendez and Gonzalez were previously convicted of a felony offense.

A 28-year-old woman reported to Corpus Christi Police that she returned home on the 1300 block of Calle San Marcos Sunday evening after an out-of-town trip and discovered her house was entered by some unknown person and $2,900 worth of electronics were taken from the home. The 28-year-old woman said there was damage to the back door which may have been the point of entry for the suspect.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger

A 23-year-old woman was arrested for driving while intoxicated with a 21 month old child passenger Saturday night at the intersection of State Highway 361 and South Padre Island Drive. A Corpus Christi Police Officer saw a blue 2007 Suzuki passenger car travel at a high rate of speed on the beach and then turned left onto State Highway 361 and travel in the opposite lane of travel nearly causing a head-on crash with another vehicle. The Patrol Officer conducted a traffic stop and 23-year-old Valery Pena (1/30/1990) displayed indications she was intoxicated. The officer discovered a 21 month old child in the vehicle and Pena was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger. The vehicle was impounded and the child was released to a family member. Pena was delivered to the city detention center for the charge which is punishable by up to 2 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 58-year-old Frank Armenta for Public Intoxication after store employees called in a complaint that Armenta refused to leave the store.

A 22-year-old man was stabbed with a knife at the 6500 block of South Padre Island Drive Sunday Morning. The 22-year-old man said he attempted to break up a fight between two men and two women when one man pulled a knife and stabbed the 22-year-old man. The suspect fled in a white Chrysler 300. No arrest has yet been made.

A 17-year-old man was arrested for burglary of a habitation Sunday morning when homeowners woke and found the man in the house on the 3000 block of Quail Springs Road.

A 52-year-old woman woke up at about 2:40 Sunday morning and found 17-year-old Jonathan Ramirez (10/09/1995) in her kitchen. The 52-year-old woman woke her 57-year-old husband who held Ramirez at gunpoint until Corpus Christi Police arrived.

Ramirez was intoxicated and entered the house through an unlocked door, then attempted to steal alcoholic drinks from the home. Ramirez was arrested for Burglary of a Habitation, a second degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

A 27-year-old woman was arrested at 14901 Windward for Public Intoxication Sunday night. The 27-year-old woman, Joyce Goad (8/11/1986), went with friends to the townhouses to “pool hop.” One of the friends stole a man’s wallet at the pool and ran. Corpus Christi Police arrested Goad for Public Intoxication and delivered her to the city detention center. An offense report was generated for the theft of the wallet; but, no arrest has yet been made for the theft.

An 18 year old waitress filed a complaint with the Corpus Christi Police that her money was taken from a cashier book Monday morning by some unknown person at a bar at 15241 Leeward Drive. The 18-year-old woman said she suspects an intoxicated woman who tried to sell “real Jordan’s” shoes had taken the money. No arrest has yet been made.

A 24-year-old man died Friday night after he was intentionally struck by a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old woman in a parking lot at Leopard Street and McKenzie Road.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash at 10:18pm in which a pedestrian was struck by a red Ford F-150 pickup truck in a parking lot at 10514 Leopard Street. C.P.R. was performed on the 24-year-old man until an ambulance arrived. The man was taken to the hospital by ambulance where the man died from his injuries.

Police Officers learned that the man was in a business when he was approached by a 21-year-old woman. The man and the woman have a relationship and know one another. The woman assaulted the man inside the business. The man left the business and the woman followed. The woman got into a red Ford pickup and then struck the man with the vehicle.

The woman was taken into custody by Corpus Christi Police and no other suspects are believed to be involved. Corpus Christi Police

Robbery/Homicide Detectives have contacted several witnesses to the event, forensics lab technicians have collected evidence from the crime scene and the F-150 pickup used in the crime was taken to the city impound. The woman was not delivered to the city detention center as of 1:30am and next of kin for the 24-year-old man have not yet been notified.

Crash Closes SPID at Staples for Hours Friday Morning

The intersection of Staples St. and South Padre Island Drive (S.P.I.D.) was closed for hours Friday morning after a car hit a truck tractor and caused a fuel spill.

At 2:45 a.m., Officers were dispatched for a Major Accident involving an 18 wheeler and a passenger car at the intersection of Staples St. and S. Padre Island Drive.

A black 2007 Chrysler Sebring traveled east in the 5600 block of South Padre Island Drive. The car was in the left lane, which is designated as a “turn left only” lane, at the intersection of Staples. A red 2004 Freightliner truck-tractor was in the lane with the option to continue straight or to turn left (north) on Staples. The truck-tractor turned left to travel north on Staples and the car went straight through the intersection on S.P.I.D. and Staples. The car struck the truck-tractor and caused the fuel tank of the truck-tractor to break open and spill the diesel fuel.

The 43 year old operator of the truck-tractor got out of the truck unharmed and got away from the vehicles as a fire burned. The 21 year old operator of the car, John Williams, also got out of the way of the fire before he was injured. There were no other occupants in either of the vehicles. No person was injured in the crash. 

Corpus Christi Police arrested the 21 year old driver of the car, John Williams (12/27/1991) for Driving While Intoxicated.

The freeway was closed completely for about five minutes while the Corpus Christi Fire Department extinguished the fire and contained the fuel spill before the fuel entered the storm drain. Westbound traffic was opened to travel, but the eastbound traffic remained closed and no traffic was allowed under the overpass until about 7:30 am when the turnaround lanes and the freeway were opened. Workers continue to clean the fuel spill as of 8:00 a.m. and have various lane closures at Staples and South Padre Island Drive.

UPDATE: The intersection was reopened at 9:26 a.m.

A 55-year-old man reported to the Corpus Christi Police that someone forced entry into his home without permission and took a variety of tools and fishing gear. The 55-year-old man found some of his property nearby and the suspect fled the area once Officers arrived. The suspect was not apprehended, but described as a white male about 30 years of age, 5 foot 7 inches tall, 150 pounds, with light brown hair, and wore a white sleeveless shirt, and shorts.

A 30-year-old man was arrested Sunday night at 3130 Mill Brook Drive for warrants of arrest after neighbors called in a report of a suspicious person.

Corpus Christi Police went to the 3100 block of Mill Brook Drive Sunday night at 10:00pm to investigate a suspicious man in a backyard. Police knocked on the door and asked if the man belonged at the home. Police Officers identified 30-year-old Jeremy Crabtree as a fugitive with two warrants for arrest; one for failing to appear to court for drug possession and the other for interference with public duties.

Crabtree was arrested and delivered to the city detention center.

Police Investigate 3 Car Jackings On A Single Day

Corpus Christi Police are looking for two Hispanic men who took several vehicles by force from three separate locations in Corpus Christi on August 4, 2013.

Corpus Christi Police received the first complaint at 3:34am on August 4 at 3802 Caravelle Parkway. A 28-year-old woman said she pulled into a parking space and was approached by a man with a white bandana over his face and displayed a handgun then demanded her car. The 28-year-old woman took the keys to her car and walked away. The man was unable to leave with the car.

Police received a second complaint at 6702 Everhart Road at 4:03am from a 33-year-old woman. The 33-year-old woman said two Hispanic men took her black 2008 Ford Focus. The woman said one man had a blue bandana over his face and the second had a red bandana over his face. The 33-year-old woman said one of the men displayed a handgun and demanded her car. The car has not been located.

The third complaint was made at 8:51am at 3802 Highway 77 by a 32-year-old woman. The 32-year-old woman said a black Ford Focus tailgated her so she pulled into a parking lot to allow it to pass. The vehicle instead blocked her and a man ran from the Focus to her car. The man had a red bandana over his face and displayed a handgun, then demanded her car. The 32-year-old woman said she got out of her silver 2013 Honda Civic and the man drove away. The Honda Civic was located at 11:13 by the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office in a barn near County Road 22 and County Road 43.

No person was injured in the episode and the suspects are still at large.

Police Investigate Monday Morning Shooting

A man was taken to the hospital by ambulance with life threatening injuries from the 4600 block of Ramona Drive Monday morning.

Corpus Christi Police were called to the 4600 block of Ramona Drive at 2:42am in response to a shooting. Responding Police Officers discovered a man in the street with obvious injuries which appear to have been caused by gunfire and the man was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Corpus Christi Police Robbery/Homicide Detectives and Corpus Christi Police Forensics Lab Technicians responded to the scene to collect evidence and process information. Detectives have gathered information from several witnesses and are working on a detailed suspect description.

The suspect remains at large and the only verified description at the time of this report is that the suspect drove away in a white car with tinted windows.
