Corpus Christi Police arrested 42-year-old Shayna Barnes (10/17/1971) at the 600 block of Sandy Oaks Drive from a Crime Stoppers tip for a warrant for her arrest for a felony charge of Driving While Intoxicated Monday night. Officers delivered the fugitive to the city detention center. There were ten fugitives arrested from tips to Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers in March for a total of $2,525 dollars in approved rewards just for the apprehension of those fugitives. Several other Crime Stoppers tips led to arrests of offenders in our area in March and the Corpus Christi Police thanks the community for the support and information against crime in this community.

Offense: Child Abandonment (Penal Code Section 22.041) State Jail Felony
Case Number: 1403310138

Corpus Christi Police arrested 17-year-old Leslie Gutierrez-Romero (6/26/1996) for child abandonment at an apartment located at 802 Barry Street Monday night. A 16-year-old girl complained to Corpus Christi Police about several young children unattended in an apartment. Officers discovered four children with an age range from 11 to 2 years old, in the apartment unattended. Officers were able to contact the 36-year-old mother of the children at her place of employment. The 36-year-old woman told Officers she left the children in the care of Gutierrez-Romero. Officers found Gutierrez-Romero and continued the investigation. Officers turned over the children to the 36-year-old woman and arrested Gutierrez-Romero for child abandonment. Officers then delivered Gutierrez-Romero to the city detention center.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger (Penal Code Section 49.045) State Jail Felony

Corpus Christi Police arrested 33-year-old Sonia Marmolejo (13/3/1980) for driving while intoxicated with a child passenger on the 2700 block of Agnes Street Monday afternoon. A Corpus Christi Police Officer on routine patrol discovered a vehicle crash at 4:15pm Monday afternoon. The Officer learned that a white 1994 Geo Prism struck a black 1999 GMC Sierra pickup from behind. The Officer detected evidence that the driver of the Geo Prism, 33-year-old Sonia Mamolejo, was intoxicated. The Officer learned Marmolejo had an 11-year-old passenger in the vehicle. Marmolejo was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of minor injuries. The 11-year-old girl was not injured and released to other family members. The Officer continued to investigate the crash and collected a blood specimen from Marmolejo at the hospital. The Officer arrested Marmolejo for driving while intoxicated with a child passenger, a state jail felony offense punishable by up to two years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. The Officer additionally issued Marmolejo citations for driving without a license, fail to control speed, and no insurance. The Officer impounded the Geo Prism at the scene. Marmolejo was released from the hospital and the Officer delivered Marmolejo to the city detention center.

After the Chicken Crossed the Road, He Met Corpus Christi Police

Event: After the Chicken Crossed the Road

Corpus Christi Police apprehended a chicken after it crossed the road Sunday afternoon at the 1600 block of Agnes Street. Corpus Christi Police Officer David Saldana, known among his peers as the “Chicken Hawk,” saw a chicken cross the road at about 2pm Sunday. Officer Saldana attempted to detain the chicken for crossing outside of a cross walk, but the chicken fled on foot from Officer Saldana. The chicken jumped through the open window to an unoccupied vehicle in an attempt to escape, but there were no keys in the ignition of the vehicle. Officer Saldana successfully captured the chicken and placed the chicken in his patrol car. Officer Saldana then transported the chicken to Animal Care Services. The chicken was identified as a Black Australorp. Case closed.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 21-year-old Tyhler Grothe-Huskey (9/25/1992) at a home on the 2700 block of Tumbleweed Drive for a warrant for his arrest for two warrants for his arrest for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Officers delivered Grothe-Huskey to the city detention center.

Offense: Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle (Penal Code Section 31.07) State Jail Felony

Corpus Christi Police arrested 34-year-old James Duvall (6/30/1979) for unauthorized use of a vehicle Monday morning at 4109 Staples Street. A 39-year-old woman reported her black 1998 Chevrolet Suburban stolen from in front of her apartment located at 1802 Ennis Joslin Road at 12:40am Monday morning. A Corpus Christi Police Officer checked a parking lot at 4109 Staples Street at 2:30am and found the vehicle the 39-year-old woman had reported as stolen. The Officer saw the vehicle operated by Duvall and conducted a traffic stop and then arrested Duvall. The Officer impounded the vehicle and then delivered Duvall to the city detention center for unauthorized use of a vehicle which is punishable by up to two years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 18-year-old Jesse Garcia (11/18/1995) for six counts of burglary of a vehicle on the 3500 block of Lynnwood Lane Saturday morning. A Corpus Christi Police Officer saw Garcia ride a bike in the neighborhood at 3:30 in the morning. The Officer saw Garcia pull on the door handles to cars and then enter a car once Garcia found an unlocked car. The Officer then arrested Garcia for burglary of a vehicle. The Officer then discovered Garcia had a bag with evidence of other burglaries. The Officer was able to return the stolen property to many of the victims of six burglaries in the area. The Officer then delivered Garcia to the city detention center for burglary of a vehicle which is punishable by up to a year in jail and up to a $4,000 fine.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 39-year-old Hector Ramos (12/22/1974) for theft of a firearm Sunday at a parking lot located at 4707 Everhart Road. A Corpus Christi Police Officer patrolled a closed business parking lot at 11:12pm Sunday night and saw Ramos hide behind a tree and heard an active car alarm. The Officer discovered Ramos dropped a pistol and the Officer collected the pistol. The Officer discovered the pistol was stolen from a vehicle in Corpus Christi in 2007. The Officer arrested Ramos for theft of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, and unlawful carrying a weapon. The Officer was unable to locate a vehicle which was unlawfully entered and the alarm discontinued. The Officer then delivered Ramos to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police are investigating burglaries to three homes in close proximity in a single day. The burglaries happened during the day to one home on the 3900 block of Violet Road, one home on the 3700 block of Violet Road, and one home on the 11100 block of Mulholland Road. A 64-year-old woman told Officers she came home and saw an unknown man walk out of her front door. The 64-year-old woman discovered the back door to her home was damaged. The 64-year-old woman described the unknown man as a tall, thin male dressed in dark clothing and carried a suitcase. No arrests have yet been made.

A 24-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were injured by gunshots at a park located at 1501 Shely Street Thursday night. Officers learned there was a fight among two women and a man discharged a firearm at about 9:45pm. Officers discovered the 24-year-old man had an injury to his leg and the 16-year-old boy had an injury to his groin. Both injured people were taken to the hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries. The man who discharged a firearm left prior to law enforcement arrival and Officers continue to investigate this event.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 25-year-old Jake Delgado (5/2/1988) for discharging a firearm inside the city limits at the 100 block of North Shoreline Boulevard Friday morning. A Corpus Christi Police Officer was at a restaurant at 121 Water Street and heard a gunshot in the parking lot. A 24-year-old man told the Officer a male passenger of a car discharged a pistol from the car. The 24-year-old man described the suspect vehicle as a black two door coupe with chrome rims. Another Corpus Christi Police Officer saw a vehicle that matched the description and then conducted a traffic stop. The Officers discovered evidence of the crime and then arrested Delgado for discharging a firearm inside the city limits and for unlawfully carrying a weapon. Officers impounded the car and then delivered Delgado to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 26-year-old Jacob Lamon (3/14/1988) for burglary of a vehicle at the 4200 block of Wood River Drive Thursday morning. A 24-year-old woman reported the burglary at 2:52am and told Officers a 24-year-old man caught the burglar. Officers investigated and discovered evidence to support the claim from the 24-year-old woman and the Officers arrested Lamon for burglary of a vehicle. Officers delivered Lamon to the city detention center for burglary which is punishable by up to a year in jail and up to a $4,000 fine.

Offense: Arson (Penal Code Section 28.02) 2nd Degree Felony

Case Number: 1403260130

The Corpus Christi Fire Department extinguished a fire at a garage for a business located at 6250 South Padre Island Drive Wednesday night and determined the fire was intentionally set. The Arson Investigator found a 10-year-old boy nearby which he believes may have caused the fire. The Corpus Christi Police Officers learned the 10-year-old boy was reported as a runaway earlier in the day on Wednesday. The Officers returned the 10-year-old boy home. The damage to the garage was reported at about $5,000 dollars and no injuries were reported.

Offense: Aggravated Assault (Penal Code Section 22.02) 2nd Degree Felony

Case Number: 1403270020

A 29-year-old man reported an aggravated assault at a bar located at 4201 McArdle Road to Corpus Christi Police Thursday morning. Corpus Christi Police responded to Driscoll Children’s Hospital for an adult who came in for treatment for stab wounds. Officers met the 29-year-old man who told Officers he and his 25-year-old cousin were attacked at the bar and cut with a knife. The 29-year-old man explained to Officers that he and his cousin walked out of the bar and some unknown person struck the 25-year-old man on the head with a bottle for an unknown reason. The 29-year-old man told Officers he helped his cousin and suffered injuries from the man who attacked the 25-year-old man. The 29-year-old man told Officers he then took his cousin to the hospital for treatment for his injuries. Both the 29-year-old man and the 25-year-old man were transported to another hospital for treatment and hospital staff told the Officers the injuries were not life threatening.

Corpus Christi Police arrested two men for burglary of a vehicle at the 4700 block of Vail Street Thursday morning. A 35-year-old man reported a burglary of a vehicle at 12:35am to the Corpus Christi Police and provided a description of the suspects and the vehicle used by the suspects to leave the area. A Corpus Christi Police Officer was in the area when the 35-year-old man called for Police, and the Officer found the suspect vehicle. The Officer discovered evidence of the crime and arrested 18-year-old Anthony Valdez (4/26/1995) and 27-year-old Patrick Zamora (11/6/1986) for burglary. The Officer impounded the suspect vehicle and delivered the two men to the city detention center.

A 50-year-old man reported an aggravated robbery at the 1400 block of Maryland Drive to Corpus Christi Police Wednesday night. The 50-year-old man told Officers he arrived at the house to deliver a pizza for a business and he was approached by two men in trench coats. The 50-year-old man told Officers one of the men displayed a gun and took the pizza. The 50-year-old man told Officers the cost of the food was about $31 dollars and the heat bag taken was valued at $200 dollars. No injuries were reported.

Offense: Assault (Penal Code 22.01 A Mis), DWI (PC 19.04 B Mis) Evading Arrest with a Vehicle (PC 38.04 3rd Degree Felony)

Officers responded to a fight at the Keg Room.  The suspect, Eric Rollins (7-17-65), took exception to being cut off by the bartender.  He brandished a pool stick and another customer attempted to stop him and took the pool stick from him.  Rollins then grabbed a cue ball and threw it, hitting the 52-year-old male victim in the mouth, causing minor injury.  Officers arrived to find Rollins locked in the driver’s seat of his truck.  He refused to turn the vehicle off and after several seconds, stomped on the gas and fled onto Alameda. An officer was arriving at that time and attempted to stop the suspect.  Rollins fled at a high rate of speed while the officer turned around, Rollins then made a u-turn on Alameda, swerved into the Cape streets, and was lost by officers before they got into the neighborhood.  Dispatch checked the address on the license plate and informed Officers that the address was off of the 400 block of Cape Lookout.  The truck was located in the driveway of the home.  Contact was made with the suspect’s wife, who reported him passed out in the back yard.  Rollins was contacted and positively identified by officers from the initial contact at the bar.  He was arrested for both evading arrest and DWI.  A blood draw was done after a warrant was secured. He was booked into the City Detention Center.

Officers responded to 400 Mann in reference to a stabbing. When they arrived they found the 21-year-old male victim with a superficial cut to his collar-bone/neck area. The victim said he was there to give his brother and his girlfriend a ride. As they were walking out the suspect (ex-boyfriend of the female), Kyle Conrad (DOB 6-25-1991) came up in his vehicle and started a confrontation. The victim got out of his car to defend his brother and started arguing with Conrad. Conrad then pulled a box cutter out and slashed the front tire of the victim’s vehicle. A fight ensued and the victim was cut. The suspect then left in his vehicle. Conrad was later located after Charlie District officers followed up and found him at Spohn South Hospital. He was arrested and transported to the City Detention Center.

A 22-year-old man reported an aggravated assault at a nightclub located at 6410 Weber Road to Corpus Christi Police Tuesday morning. Corpus Christi Police responded to a group fight at the club a little after 2am Tuesday morning. Several people told responding Officers that a maroon Ford Focus 4 door car was stolen from the parking lot. Other Corpus Christi Police Officers located the Ford Focus on the Crosstown Expressway near Holly Road and conducted a traffic stop. The 22-year-old man who drove the Ford Focus told Officers he was stabbed at the nightclub and took the car to get help. Officers saw the man’s injuries and summoned an ambulance. The 22-year-old man was taken by ambulance to the hospital with life threatening injuries. Witnesses told Officers the 22-year-old man was attacked by about eight unknown men for some unknown reason. Detectives continue to gather information and evidence.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 26-year-old Oscar Rocha (10/15/1987) for burglary to a store located at 4212 Ayers Street Tuesday morning. Corpus Christi Police responded to a burglary alarm at 5:30am Tuesday morning. A Corpus Christi Police Officer arrived and saw that the storefront glass was broken and a man and woman were inside the store. The Officer confronted the two and both ran from the Officer. The Officer caught the man, Oscar Rocha, and arrested him for burglary. Officers know the identity of the woman who ran and will continue to investigate this criminal case.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated (Penal Code Section 49.04) Class B Misdemeanor
Case Number: 1403250012

Corpus Christi Police arrested a 40-year-old woman for driving while intoxicated Tuesday morning after she drove a car into a Police Patrol Car on the 5500 block of Saratoga Boulevard Tuesday morning. A Corpus Christi Police Officer stopped to help a woman who suffered a medical condition in the fast lane of the 5500 block of Saratoga Boulevard at about 2:00am Tuesday morning. While the Officer and an ambulance were stopped with their emergency lights active, 40-year-old Jennifer Medellin (4/13/1973) drove her gray 2014 Chevrolet Camaro into the back of the stopped Police Patrol Car. The Corpus Christi Police Officer arrested Medellin for driving while intoxicated, took her to the hospital for a medical evaluation, and collected a specimen of her blood. The Officer then delivered Medellin to the city detention center.

A 21-year-old woman reported a case of unlawful restraint at the 2900 block of Norton Street to Corpus Christi Police Monday night. Corpus Christi Police investigated a hit and run crash at about 6:00pm Monday night and were approached by a 21-year-old woman who told the Officers two men forced her to drive them away from the crash. The 21-year-old woman explained to the Officers she drove on the 2900 block of Norton when two men she does not know got into her car and demanded her to keep driving. The 21-year-old woman told Officers she feared for her safety so she drove several blocks until she stopped the car, turned off the engine and then demanded they get out of her car. The 21-year-old woman told Officers the men got out of her car and ran away. The 21-year-old woman described the two men to Officers as twenty year old males with light-colored skin, about six feet tall, skinny, tattoos all over with tear drops on their faces and shaved heads. No injuries were reported.

Officers continue to investigate the hit and run crash and discovered contraband in the gray 2007 Toyota Camry from which the two men are believed to have fled.

Offense: Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (Penal Code Section 31.07) State Jail Felony

Case Number: 1403230047

Corpus Christi Police arrested 20-year-old Ricky Zapata (5/25/1993) for a variety of charges which include unauthorized Use of a vehicle at a store located at 10605 Leopard Street Sunday morning. Corpus Christi Police responded to an alarm and discovered damage to the back gate. A 49-year-old man arrived as the keyholder for the business and reported the damage to the gate was not like it was left and a white 2005 Chevrolet Silverado was missing. Corpus Christi Police Officers located the truck later at 16026 Northwest Boulevard and arrested Zapata. Zapata was charged with theft, unauthorized use of a vehicle, criminal mischief, and criminal trespass. The vehicle was returned to the 49-year-old man and the Officers delivered Zapata to the city detention center.

A 40-year-old man reported an aggravated assault on the access road to the 5100 block of Interstate Highway 37 to Corpus Christi Police Sunday night. The 40-year-old man told Officers he drove his red 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt on the access road and was cut off by a white 4 door Mercedes car with paper tags. The 40-year-old man told Officers he attempted to confront the driver of the Mercedes about the improper driving and the passenger leaned out the window and discharged a firearm at the Cobalt. The 40-year-old man told Officers there was one shot which struck his Cobalt and caused minor damage. The 40-year-old man told Officers he went to a nearby convenience store to call Police. No injuries were reported.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash in which a tanker overturned on the 1500 block of McKinzie Road Saturday afternoon. Corpus Christi Police Officers learned a 34-year-old man operated a truck tractor north on McKinzie Road and attempted a left turn into a private drive. The Investigating Officer learned the truck traveled too fast and caused the vehicles to roll onto its side off the roadway. The 34-year-old man refused medical treatment and was issued a citation for failure to control speed.

Offense: Terroristic Threat (Penal Code Section 22.07) State Jail Felony

Corpus Christi Police apprehended a 16-year-old boy for making a bomb threat at a high school located at 2601 Waldron Road. A school faculty member found the threat in a bathroom written on the wall and notified the Corpus Christi Police Officer on the campus. The school staff and the Officer investigated the threat and found the 16-year-old boy who wrote the threat. The Officer took the 16-year-old boy into custody for Terroristic Threats (a charge punishable by up to two years incarceration and up to a $10,000 fine) and delivered him to the Nueces County Juvenile Detention Center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 28-year-old Tyler Johns (8/5/1985) for a warrant for his arrest Thursday afternoon after Officers investigated Johns as a suspicious person at a parking lot located at 10241 South Padre Island Drive. A Corpus Christi Police Officer noticed three men selling home audio systems out of the back of a black 2013 Ford F-150 pickup truck in the parking lot. The Officer investigated and learned the packaged systems were sold by the three men at over $2,000 dollars less than the manufacturer’s suggested retail price. Officers learned the men are not residents of Corpus Christi and do not have a city solicitation permit. Officers gathered information and discovered one of the men, Johns, had an active warrant for his arrest out of Austin for a parole violation. Officers released the other two men and delivered Johns to the city detention center.

Offense: Aggravated Assault (Penal Code Section 22.02) 2nd Degree Felony

Corpus Christi Police initiated an investigation for an aggravated assault on the 600 block of Texan Trail Thursday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to a call of a man who suffered obvious injuries and laid in the driveway to an apartment. Witnesses told Officers they heard an argument outside and then saw a 35-year-old man with injuries to his torso and legs. It is not known what caused the injuries and witnesses told Officers the man may have been struck by a vehicle. The 35-year-old man was taken to the hospital by ambulance and was listed by the hospital staff as in critical condition. Detectives were called to assist to gather information and evidence and continue to investigate this event.

Offense: Discharge a Firearm Inside the City Limits

A 22-year-old man reported a person who discharged a firearm inside the city limits at an apartment complex located at 3002 Antelope Street to Corpus Christi Police Friday morning. The 22-year-old man told Officers an unknown man and an unknown woman got out of a white 1997 Mercedes at about 2:45am and the man discharged a pistol into the air several times, and then entered an apartment. Officers were unable to locate the man or woman and collected evidence from the scene. No injuries or property damage was reported.

A 34-year-old woman reported an assault at a bar located at 3029 Laguna Shores Wednesday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of an assault at 9:21pm and the 34-year-old woman told Officers she was attacked by two women. The 34-year-old woman told Officers she was approached at the bar by the two women, both of whom she does not know. The 34-year-old woman told Officers the two women asked her to go outside with them to which she did. The 34-year-old woman told Officers that once she was outside, one of the women used a stun gun to shock the 34-year-old woman in the abdomen. The 34-year-old woman told Officers the two women then punched her in the face several times and then left in a white Ford truck with no tailgate. The 34-year-old woman told Officers she has not met the two women previously and does not know why she was attacked.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 24-year-old Samuel Herrera (12/12/1989) for Intoxicated Manslaughter which happened March 16 at 1:48am. Officers delivered Herrera to the city detention center on Thursday, March 20, 2014 after his release from the hospital. If convicted, the punishment may be up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine for the charge of Intoxicated Manslaughter.

Corpus Christi Police are investigating an aggravated assault at an apartment located at 3002 Antelope Street. Officers learned a 57-year-old man suffered injuries which the Officers believe may have been caused by a knife. The 57-year-old man was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of his injuries. Hospital staff reported to the Officers the injuries are not life-threatening. No arrests have yet been made and the Officers continue to investigate.
