A 46-year-old man was arrested on Port Avenue Saturday afternoon after he beat a 36-year-old man with a hammer.

The 46-year-old man, Reymundo Rivera (1/2/1966) sat with his 38-year-old girlfriend under the overpass at State Highway 286 and South Port when a 36-year-old man walked up and demanded sex from the 38-year-old woman. Rivera stood up to the 36 year old man and refused the demand.

Rivera then fought with the 36 year old man and then hit the 36 year old man several times in the torso with a claw hammer. Police saw puncture wounds on the 36-year-old man consistent with a strike from a hammer.

The 36-year-old man was taken to Spohn Memorial Hospital for treatment. Rivera was arrested for Aggravated Assault punishable by up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
