LOCATION: Interstate Highway 37 South at Suntide Road
OFFENSE: Major Traffic Accident
CASE # C1402331
Corpus Christi Police, Fire and EMS responded to a crash involving an overturned box truck on Interstate Highway 37 South at the Suntide Road exit. The crash caused all of the south bound lanes of IH 37 South, coming into downtown, to be closed until the scene was cleared just after 12:30 PM. The crash investigation revealed that the driver, a 30 year old Corpus Christi man, was driving a box truck south in the outside lane of IH 37 when he left the roadway and began to travel on the shoulder, then into the grass. The driver over corrected to the left, causing the truck to veer back across all three lanes of traffic and strike the concrete center median. The crash into the median caused the box truck to roll over onto the driver side and stop in the middle and inside lane of the freeway. The driver was extracted from the cab of the truck by CCFD and transported to the hospital with head injuries. At this time no citations have been issued, however, the crash is still under investigation.
