“Adam” District

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to an apartment complex located in the 11600 block of Leopard St. after receiving a call from the apartment manager about a 10 year old female who had come to her door saying her mother had thrown a fish tank at her.  Officers contacted the little girl who said her mom, Stephanie Johnston (08/09/1977), came home drunk and started a disturbance with her. The disturbance which involved the mother calling the girl names turned physical when the mother hit her and threw a fish tank that had a pet lizard in it at her. The little girl then left and went to the apartment manager for safety.  Officers found the mother outside the apartment and determined that she was intoxicated.  During the investigation officers determined that the mother had been drinking at her place of employment and she had left her daughter alone since about 7:30 PM with no supervision until she got home at about 2:00 AM. The girl did have a cut on her finger from picking up broken glass from her broken tank but no other injuries.  The mother was arrested for public intoxication, a Class C misdemeanor and child abandonment / endangerment, a state jail felony. The girl was left in the custody of Child Protective Services.

A 22 year old pregnant female told Corpus Christi Police that she was driving her mother’s black Ford Escape with her 14 year old sister inside along the access road of South Padre Island Drive east at S. Staples St.   The female driver was attempting to get on the ramp to enter the freeway when a light green colored Lexus cut in front of her vehicle almost hitting them.  The female honked at the vehicle and the Lexus got behind them as both were going east on the freeway and the driver of the Lexus appeared to be very angry.  The female exited the freeway at Nile Rd. and pulled into a fast food restaurant parking lot and parked.  The Lexus followed them into the parking lot and parked behind their vehicle and a black male suspect in his mid-forties exited the Lexus, approached the female driver and hit her in the face with either a hammer or a club.  The suspect then punched the victim a couple of times and threw her against her car.  During the assault the suspect was yelling at the female that she should not have honked at him.  The victim’s sister ran into the restaurant to get help and the suspect left in the Lexus and was last seen going underneath the turnaround of S. Padre Island Dr. and Nile Rd. The victim suffered injuries to her upper arm area, her right wrist and she had a cut to the front of her nose.  CCFD EMS responded to treat the victim for her injuries and her mother arrived to take her to the hospital to be examined.  Officers are still investigating this case, and no suspects have been arrested.

Corpus Christi Police received a call from an employee of the Good Samaritan Mission located at 210 S. Alameda Street after she saw four children walking toward a convenience store on Agnes Street just after three in the morning.  Officers found the kids that were 15, 14, 11 and 5 years old at the store. They told officers that their mother was out drinking with a friend, and she had left them in the care of the fifteen year old at her friend`s apartment located in the 800 block of Coleman Ave.  The apartment belonged to Magdalena Gaitan Noyola (07/26/1972).  The children told the officers that earlier that evening, Ms. Noyola came home and started yelling at the kids because she could not locate her cigarettes and cell phone. Ms. Noyola told the children to leave the apartment and they started walking on foot down the road. Child Protective Services was contacted, and after several attempts the officers and CPS workers were able to locate the mother Diana Alvarado (09/22/1982).   The mother was taken to the apartment on Coleman St. and she told officers and CPS that she refused to care for the two older kids.  She was arrested for child endangerment and abandonment, a state jail felony.  It was determined during the investigation that when Ms. Noyola started screaming at the kids she pulled out a knife and tried to use it against the older kid. Ms. Noyola was arrested for Child Endangerment for kicking the kids out of her home in the middle of the night, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a first degree felony for pulling a knife out and threatening one of the kids.

“Delta” District

OFFENSE: Aggravated Robbery       (PC 29.03    First Degree Felony)

A 45 year old male victim contacted Corpus Christi Police and said he was flagged down by a hispanic male on Clemmer St. near Ayers St.   The male asked for a ride to a friend’s house, and the victim agreed. While they were driving in the 1300 block of Airport Road the suspect pulled out a handgun. The suspect told the victim he wanted his money and the vehicle. The victim got out, and the suspect got into the driver’s seat and took off in the victim’s 2000 Chevrolet Impala along with about $100 cash he stole from the vicitm.  The suspect is described as having black hair and brown eyes, he is about 5’5” and his weight is unknown. Officers have not made an arrest in this case, or found the stolen vehicle.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a shooting at the intersection of Mc Ardle Rd. and Carroll Ln. A 44 year old female victim was found sitting in the driver’s seat of a green Ford Ranger truck and she had been shot several times by her boyfriend, Jacob Salazar (06/03/1982) who had fled on foot.  Other motorist who had witnessed what had happened told officers that it appeared as though there was a disturbance inside the truck and then shots were heard. The victim’s parents showed up at the scene and told officers that the suspect lived on Nemec St. with his mother.  While officers were investigating the shooting, a call came in that a black Mercedes had just been stolen from an apartment complex located in the 4300 block of Carroll Lane.   The driver who had stolen the Mercedes had also crashed through the electric gate as it was leaving the apartment complex.  The description of the suspect who had stolen the car, matched the description given of the shooting suspect.  Officers found the stolen Mercedes abandoned and still running in front of 4826 Cheryl Dr.  The suspect fled on foot from that scene, and made it to his mother’s apartment on Nemec St. She was able to talk him out on the phone and he was taken into custody. The suspect was charged with aggravated assault, a first degree felony for shooting the victim, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a state jail felony for stealing the Mercedes, and criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor for the damage done to the apartment complex gate when he crashed into it. The victim injuries are not believed to be life threatening, and she was transported by CCFD EMS to Spohn Memorial Hospital.
