As a follow-up to Saturday’s officer involved shooting, the following information has been made available for release.
As detailed in Saturday’s release, CCPD was the assisting agency on a Law Enforcement Assist, regarding a stolen vehicle.
We will be providing updates regarding the Officer Involved Shooting. Upon arrival of our officers, all three suspects refused to follow direct commands and proceeded to evade on foot. During the foot pursuit, one of our officers encountered one of the suspects on the 6100 block of SPID. The offender engaged the officer in a struggle before producing and discharging a handgun striking the officer, forcing the officer to use deadly force to protect his life.
Anytime an officer must use deadly force it is tragic, it is even more unsettling that a young man with a gun placed an officer in a position that seriously injured him and forced him to discharge his firearm.
Information garnered during the investigation led us to preliminarily identify the suspect as an adult.
This morning, December 5, 2022, the suspect was positively identified, and we can now confirm that he is a 16-year-old juvenile male. The juvenile male is still being treated at a local hospital.
Two additional suspects, a 16-year-old male and a 19-year-old male were arrested by the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office. Any additional information regarding those arrests shall be made by their agency.
Any additional updates will be released as they are made available for release.
