UPDATE: SHOOTING AT 3200 BUDDY LAWRENCE

On Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 7:48 pm, officers were dispatched to a disturbance at 3200 Buddy Lawrence that upgraded to a shooting with injuries. 

Officers arrived on scene and located a 30-year-old adult male with a gunshot wound and provided medical aid. Medics arrived and transported the gunshot victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  

Witnesses told officers on scene that a female ran from a 32-year-old male, later identified as Victor Ramos, with Ramos following the female into a local business. The gunshot victim tried to intervene to assist the female and was shot by Ramos. Witnesses stated Ramos then forcefully pushed the female into his pickup then fled the scene before officer arrival. 

At 8:03 pm, officers were dispatched to 1100 S. Port Ave reference a major traffic accident. Callers stated that the male in the pickup exited the pickup with a gun and ran from the scene on foot. Officers arrived and found that the pickup was involved in the Buddy Lawrence shooting. Officers began looking for Ramos when another victim approached officers and advised that their vehicle had been stolen by Ramos after the traffic accident, who fled in that stolen vehicle.  

The 30-year-old female victim that was initially forced into the vehicle by Ramos was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The two occupants of the vehicle involved in the traffic accident were also transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The stolen vehicle and Ramos were located at the 1400 block of Thompkins Street, where Ramos was taken into custody. Officers were able to recover the firearm used in the incident and also located illegal narcotics on Ramos’ person.  

After medical clearance at a local hospital, Ramos was booked into the City Detention Center with the following charges: Aggravated Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, 2 counts of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by Felon, Possession of Controlled Substance.
