Body and Dash camera footage of Officer Hernandez’s incident April 17, 2025

The Corpus Christi Police Department is aware of a recent news story regarding an Officer involved incident that presents a one sided account of the events.  The incident occurred on April 17, 2025. In order to provide full context, we have made the decision to release the unedited body worn camera and dash camera video.

The only redactions made to the footage are motor vehicle license plates. License plate numbers may be redacted from radio traffic and blurred in the videos to protect privacy. No other edits have been made.

We understand and appreciate the concerns that have been raised, and we take those concerns very seriously. The released videos show that the officer had probable cause to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle subsequently eluded the officer, continued through a stop sign, and ultimately pulled over in a secluded area.

When the officer made contact with the operator of the vehicle, the individual failed to comply with verbal commands and proceeded to reach toward the vehicle’s center console.  The officer then removed the male from the vehicle. The individual continued to refuse verbal commands during the encounter.  Every day, officers make split second decisions based on real time circumstances.

We recognize that the videos may be difficult to watch and advise viewers that strong language is present. We also want the public to be aware that the dash camera audio is not audible, and the body worn camera audio begins approximately 30 seconds into the recording of the body camera video.

The Corpus Christi Police Department recognizes the importance of maintaining the public’s trust and will continue striving to meet our community’s expectations of professionalism. For many years, we have worked diligently to build strong relationships and earn the trust of those we serve, and we remain committed to continuing that work. We appreciate the continued support of our department and our officers.
