Joseph “Joey” Gonzales was reported missing by his family on June 11, 2020. Joey was last seen at the intersection of Staples/Wooldridge wearing a white t-shirt and dark colored jeans.

Joey is known to frequent the area of Cimarron and Wooldridge on foot and may be in need of medical assistance.

Joey is described as a 38-year-old male who stands 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs approximately 170 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

ARREST MADE IN CONNECTION WITH LEIGH STREET HOMICIDE

On Monday, June 08, 2020 Corpus Christi Police Officers continued their investigation into the city’s latest homicide which occurred on the 3900 block of Leigh Street.

Detectives were able to identify and obtain an arrest warrant for the suspect, 20-year-old Jonathan Greenwood. Greenwood was located and transported to the Corpus Christi Police Department to be interviewed by Detectives and was later transported to the City Detention Center for processing.

Greenwood was booked on one warrant for Murder ($300,000 Bond).

CITY’S LATEST HOMICIDE

Date: Sunday, June 07, 2020 9:01 P.M.
Location: 3900 block of Leigh
Offense: Murder

On June 07, 2020 at approximately 9:01 P.M. Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to the area of the 3000 block of Leigh in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers observed a 17-year-old male with serious injuries, sustained from being shot by an unknown suspect. Medics arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition.

Detectives were later informed that the 17-year-old victim passed away from his injuries. At this time police do not have a suspect in custody but are actively questioning a person of interest.

The suspect was last seen leaving the scene in a vehicle, which has since been located by Investigators. This was not a random act of violence and the parties involved were acquainted with each other.

This is still an active investigation. Due to a recent contentious incident resulting in a deadly contact between a Major City Police Department and one of its citizens, George Floyd, the Police Profession has come under increased scrutiny. Based on this incident, I believe the increased attention on Police interaction with citizens is well warranted.

I want to take a moment to impress upon you the great effort made by the Corpus Christi Police Department to improve citizen interaction by continually updating processes, equipment and most importantly maintaining a culture of respect for human life.

The Corpus Christi Police Department works tirelessly to build and maintain trust and quality relationships within our community. Although this incident did not occur locally, we understand the actions of a few officers can harm the longstanding relationships between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.

Maintaining an open and honest relationship with those we serve is the cornerstone of our success as a professional police agency and a hallmark of this administration.

Treating you with respect and dignity is of the utmost importance to us and we are committed to maintaining the high level of service that you have come to expect.

OFFENDER OF THE WEEK

Nueces County Sheriff’s Office is asking for your help to 36-year-old Johnny Gonzalez who has two outstanding warrants; first is for motion to revoke on two counts of dangerous drugs and tampering with physical evidence, second warrant is for possession of controlled substance (Both No Bond).

Gonzalez is described as a 36-year-old white male, who stands 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs approximately 220 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

Date: Tuesday, 05/26/2020 3:43A.M.
Location: 5900 block of Ayers Street
Offense: Burglary of Habitation with Intent Other Felony
Case Number: 2005260012

On Tuesday May 26, 2020 at 3:43am officers were dispatched to 5900 Ayers in reference to a burglary in progress. Officers received information that three males were seen forcing their way into the residence. When the officers arrived, they entered the residence, and were confronted with a male suspect brandishing a handgun. Officers gave verbal commands, which the suspect ignored, at which point the officers discharged their service weapons striking the suspect. The suspect was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment and at last update was listed in critical condition. Upon release from the hospital the suspect will face several felony charges.

Responding officers also located two other suspects inside the residence and immediately took them into custody.

19-year-old Anthony Hinojosa and 18-year-old Marco Molina were both charged with Burglary of a Habitation with Intent other Felony.
