Shooting at 5100 Green Park Drive

Incident: Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon

On Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 11:49pm, officers were dispatched to the 5100 block of Green Park Drive in reference to a shooting with injuries.  

Officers arrived and found multiple gunshot victims and began providing life-saving measures to each victim. Medics transported a 31-year-old black male to a local hospital with critical but stable injuries. Another medic unit transported an 18-year-old black female to a local hospital with critical but stable injuries. A 15-year-old Hispanic female victim sustained a graze wound and was treated on scene by medics (she was not transported to the hospital). 

Officers quickly secured the scene and began speaking with witnesses. Homicide detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division arrived and began conducting their investigation. It was found that a fight started between two males who knew each other. The 31-year-old male victim attempted to break up the fight when he, along with the 18-year-old female victim and 15-year-old female victim, were all shot by a Hispanic male suspect. The suspect fled the scene. The other 18-year-old male victim involved in the fight also fled the scene but was later contacted by officers and found that he did not have any injuries. Detectives were able to identify the offender as 17-year-old Rueben Lopez. 

On Sunday, October 29, 2023, Detectives secured two warrants for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, first bond amount $500,000 and second bond amount $250,000, for Rueben Lopez. At 12:25pm on Sunday, October 29, 2023, patrol officers located Rueben Lopez on the 4800 block of Dodd Street where he was taken into custody for the outstanding warrants. Lopez was transported to the City Detention Center and processed.

PHONE SCAM ALERT

The Corpus Christi Police Department has been made aware of a phone scam involving The Nueces County Sheriff’s Office.

The caller claims to be a deputy with the sheriff’s office and states that they have an arrest warrant and demands payment. THIS IS A SCAM!

The Corpus Christi Police Department and the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office will never call to inform you of a warrant and demand payment. If someone calls claiming this, do not give them any information and hang up immediately.

RED RIBBON WEEK

Red Ribbon Week is the week of October 23-27.

The Corpus Christi Police Department has partnered with several local Law Enforcement Agencies to participate in the National Red Ribbon Campaign. Officers will be participating in Red Ribbon Parade Routes at several local elementary schools throughout the week.

What Is Red Ribbon Week?

The Red Ribbon Campaign® is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation, reaching millions of young people during Red Ribbon Week®, which is October 23rd – October 31st, each year. The mission of the Red Ribbon Campaign® is to present a unified and visible commitment towards the creation of a DRUG- FREE AMERICA.

Red Ribbon Week started after the murder of Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena in 1985. After his death, communities across the country began wearing red ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction caused by drugs in America and to honor Kiki’s sacrifice.

This year’s theme, “Be Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug Free.”

MEET YOUR CCPD

Gloriane Lopez began her career as a civilian employee with the Corpus Christi Police Department in March 2017 as a Senior Staff Assistant to the Commander in the Criminal Investigation Division. In February 2018, she transferred to be a Civilian Investigator where she filed misdemeanor cases with the District Attorney’s Office. In November 2020, Gloriane transferred to the Police Building Maintenance and Operations as Operations Support IV. In February 2023, Gloriane became an Administrative Support III, where she currently serves as a supervisor.

Gloriane and her team contribute to the daily operations in maintaining the CCPD building facilities. Gloriane is responsible for the daily maintenance and operation of twelve police locations, including the Main Station. Gloriane handles all janitorial issues, maintenance issues, ordering and maintaining supplies, organizes the landscaping and handles any other issue or task that arises.

Gloriane’s supervisor, Pat Eldridge, says, “Gloriane is the jack of all trades and is able to troubleshoot anything that comes her way.”

Born and raised in Corpus Christi, Gloriane graduated from Roy Miller High School. During her free time, Gloriane enjoys attending Houston Astros baseball games and likes to sew.

ARREST MADE IN LATEST HOMICIDE

Date: Sunday, October 8, 2023
Time: 3:28am
Location: 600 25th Street
Offense: Murder

SUSPECT ARRESTED 10-09-2023

Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division Robbery Homicide Section developed information that 22-year-old Jessica Garza was the suspect involved in the homicide on the 600 block of 25th Street.

Detectives secured a warrant for Murder, $500,000 bond, for Jessica Garza.

With the assistance of the US Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Fugitives Task Force, CCPD Patrol Officers and Nueces County Sheriffs Deputies, Jessica was located at the 5700 block of Leopard Street and arrested for the outstanding warrant. Jessica was transported to the Main Station to be interviewed and was later booked into the City Detention Center for processing.

Medics arrived and transported a 42-year-old male to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Medics also transported a 20-year-old male victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Initial investigation found that numerous subjects were involved in a physical altercation. At some point during the physical altercation, the victims were shot. 

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division are conducting an investigation.

HOMICIDE ON THE 600 BLOCK OF 25TH STREET

On Sunday, October 8, 2023, at 3:28am, officers were dispatched to 25th/Ruth St. in reference to an unknown nature. While in route, the call upgraded to a shooting with injuries at the 600 block of 25th Street. 

Officers arrived and located two male gunshot victims and immediately began providing medical aid. Medics arrived and transported a 42-year-old male to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Medics also transported a 20-year-old male victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Initial investigation found that numerous subjects were involved in a physical altercation. At some point during the physical altercation, the victims were shot. This is not a random act of violence as the parties were known to each other.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division are actively investigating this incident.

OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING AT 6100 ANGELIQUE COURT

On October 7, 2023, at 10:19 pm, officers responded to a loud house party on the 6100 block of Angelique Court.  

Upon arrival, an officer saw an individual firing into an occupied vehicle at which time the officer returned fire in preservation of the third party, striking the individual who was firing into the vehicle. The officer immediately began providing life saving measures. The individual was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. 

The officer has been placed on administrative leave at this time, in accordance with current department practice and policy. 

This is still an active and ongoing investigation. Further information will be forthcoming.
