Drunk Driver Stopped by Tree

Officers responded to the area for an accident in which a purple 1995 Mercury Cougar struck a tree.    Upon their arrival, Officers contacted the driver Keith G. Kaufman (05/31/89) who appeared intoxicated, but not injured. 

A witness told Officers she observed the Cougar drive towards the 4400 block of S. Port and change course to 4400 Ayers where he struck the tree.

Kaufman was administered Standard Field Sobriety Tests and a Blood Warrant was obtained for a Blood Specimen.  He was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

Couple Arrested and One Hospitalized Due to ‘Dirty Dancing’

Officers patrolling the downtown area observed a disturbance in front of Flannigan’s in which a man was lying on the ground another male being restrained by a couple of individuals.

The 37-year-old victim was found to be dazed and confused with a laceration to the back of his head.  The victim was transferred to Spohn Memorial for medical treatment.

Officers contacted the male who was being restrained who told them he is a friend of the victim. He reported the victim was dancing with the suspect’s girlfriend in an “inappropriate” manner and attempted to lift up her dress.  The boyfriend Tristan Richards (07/24/83) responded by assaulting the victim.  Two males joined the fight and dragged the victim outside where the assault continued.

Richards was arrested along with his girlfriend Ashlynn Finnie (11/29/88) and booked at the City Detention Center.  Richards was charged with Assault, while Finnie was charged with Public Intoxication.

Business Burglarized by Not So Nice Guy

An Officer in the area of Mr. Nice Guys responded to an alarm call in which the alarm company reported the sounds of glass breaking could be heard.

Upon his arrival, the Officer observed a male hastily walking away from the business toward his parked green van.  The Officer contacted Robby Barrera Jr. (09/16/91) who was bleeding from a small laceration to his hand.

Further investigation revealed that Barrera had attempted to burglarize the business by smashing the display window on the east side of the building. The suspect’s “high hopes” were dashed by the Officer’s quick arrival.

Barrera was arrested and charged with Burglary of a Building and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia when a glass pipe was found in the van.

The business was secured by the owner.

DWI Driver Rescued by Man She Crashed Into

Officers responded to a major accident involving a blue 2005 Jeep Cherokee which flipped on its side after rear-ending another vehicle. Upon their arrival, Officers found the flipped Jeep along with a red Chevrolet Tahoe which was facing eastbound in the westbound lane.

The trapped female driver had been pulled out of her vehicle by a male in the Tahoe.

Officers contacted the female driver who appeared to be intoxicated and administered Standard Field Sobriety Tests and a Breath Test.

Jacquelyn Hereim (11/24/87) was arrested and transported to Spohn Shoreline for medical clearance.

Hereim was booked at the City Detention Center and charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

Auto Burglar Arrested As He Walks Away with Two Dollies

Officers responded to the area of Mount Vernon and Everhart Road for a suspicious individual pushing two dollies.

Officers contacted Joe Medina (12/14/82) in the Conn’s parking lot.  Medina who appeared to be intoxicated, was also found in possession of a car jack, hat, and radio.  Further investigation revealed Medina had burglarized a Chevrolet Suburban in the King’s Square Apartment Complex

The owner of the vehicle was contacted and the recovered stolen items belonging to him were returned.

Medina was arrested and charged with Burglary of a Vehicle and Public Intoxication.

The two dollies were tagged as evidence and will be returned to the owner when found.

His Stolen Beer Runneth Over

Officers responded to the Stripes Convenience Store for theft of beer.  Upon their arrival, Officers talked to the store clerk who reported a White male grabbed a couple of beers and ran out the store towards the Staples Bus Station. The clerk told Officers the suspect had been involved in two earlier thefts of beer.

While the Officer was investigating the beer theft, an assault was broadcast at the bus station involving the suspect. The suspect told Officers he was assaulted by three Hispanic males and two Black males.  The suspect who appeared to be intoxicated sustained a bloody nose. The motive for the assault is unknown at this time.

The clerk positively identified the suspect who was transported to Spohn Memorial for treatment. He was released to medical personnel for treatment.

Once at Spohn Memorial, the suspect left the hospital and committed another “beer run” at the Walgreens located at 2101 Morgan.  The department manager identified Brandon Joseph Lockard (01/15/84) as the person who walked out of the store with two eighteen packs of beer.  Lockard was arrested and charged with Public Intoxication and Theft.

Officers recovered the beer and returned it to Walgreens.

Double the Trouble

An officer was transporting Angelica Marie Ortiz (06/05/93), who had been arrested and charged with Possession of Dangerous Drugs from The Palace Men’s Club, to the City Detention Center for booking when he observed a tan 1978 Chevrolet El Camino driving the wrong way and heading straight at them. The Officer was able to pull the El Camino safely to a stop before it hit them.

Upon checking the license plate, the Officer found the vehicle to be stolen out of Aransas County. Kristie Salazar Gibson (01/09/69), the sole occupant, was arrested and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.  The vehicle was impounded.

Homeowner Struggles with Burglar, One Suspect Arrested

Officers responded to the residence for a suspicious or unusual activity call in which someone was heard knocking on the front door.  Upon their arrival, the Officer heard a female yelling at him that the suspect was inside.

Once inside the residence, he found the suspect being held down by the 40-year-old homeowner.  The suspect was struggling with the victim, striking at him in his attempt to escape.  The suspect refused to stop his assault and was tasered by the Officer.

Randy Cruz Rodriguez (03/28/89) became cooperative and was taken into custody.  Further investigation revealed he was the ex-boyfriend of the homeowner’s 18-year-old daughter.

Cruz was charged with Burglary of Habitation and Assault Causes Bodily Injury along with an outstanding warrant.

Murder Suspect Arrested, Son Found Safe

Occurred on 12/12/2011    7:36 a.m.,   Murder   109 Highwood Street    1112120024

911/MetroCom dispatchers received a call, at 7:36 a.m., for a shooting at 109 Highwood. Officers and medics were dispatched and responded to the home, which is located within Jackson Woods Mobile Home Park at 3701 McKenzie. Upon their arrival, Officers found a   31-year-old female victim deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.

Witnesses reported to Officers that the victim’s live-in boyfriend showed up at their home and forced his way inside.  The suspect, who was armed with a handgun, chased the victim to her parent’s bedroom and shot the victim. The suspect then left the home with his 8-year-old son, who had been at the home at 109 Highwood.

Further investigation revealed the suspect had possibly fled to his residence in Alice, TX in a blue 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck. A B.O.L.O. was put out on the vehicle. Officers from the Alice Police Department, the Department of Public Safety, the Coastal Bend Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force, along with C.C.P.D.’s  S.W.A.T. and Hostage Negotiation Team worked together to locate the suspect at his residence.

At the location the victim’s son, who was uninjured, was released by the suspect Jose Gonzales III (09/12/67). Gonzales turned himself in shortly thereafter.

The Murder investigation is active and ongoing and will be conducted by the Corpus Christi Police Department Homicide/Robbery Bureau with the cooperation of the Alice Police Department.

Update:

On 12/12/11, Corpus Christi Police Department Homicide/Robbery Detectives transported and booked Jose Gonzales III (09/12/67) at the Corpus Christi Police Department City Detention Center.  He was charged with Murder and his bond set at $250,000. Gonzales is currently booked at the Nueces County Jail.

Short Pursuit Leads to One Arrest

An Officer observed a black 2008 Mazda speeding and attempted to catch up to the vehicle.  The driver tried to lose the Officer as it took the Tarlton Street exit and turned back around.  The driver drove thru the neighborhoods in the area.

Another Officer blocked the roadway on Tarlton Street and the driver pulled to a stop upon seeing the Officer.  The 16-year-old driver was placed in police custody and booked at the Nueces County Juvenile Center.  He was charged with Evading Arrest in a Vehicle, Speeding, No Driver’s License, and No Proof of Financial Responsibility.  The suspect’s  vehicle was impounded. 

The 18-year-old female passenger was released at the scene.
