Officers responded to the Cabaniss Dwellings apartment complex for a vehicle accident in which a blue 1990 Chevrolet 1500 struck a house. Upon their arrival, Officers found the truck had driven through a chain link fence and crashed into the back porch, but the driver was nowhere to be found.
A witness told Officers they observed the driver lose control, swerve into a field, jump a curb and strike the house. The driver was observed to jump out of the truck before it struck the house and fled into the wooded area next to the home.
Officers searched the area, but unable to locate the suspect who was described as a Hispanic male, 5’6” feet tall, and wearing dark clothing.
While the Officer was finishing his investigation, the suspect’s sister returned with her brother to the accident scene. The sister told the Officer, her 39-year-old brother was the owner of the truck.
The Officer contacted the suspect who was in the process of ordering the wrecker driver to unhook his vehicle. He was covered in blood and had sustained several lacerations to his hands.
The suspect who appeared to be intoxicated was treated at the scene by CCFD Emergency Personnel who determined he needed transport to Spohn Memorial for medical treatment. A blood warrant was obtained for a blood specimen.
Officers left the suspect in the care of Spohn Memorial medical staff, but Driving While Intoxicated charges are pending.
