A 48-year-old man died as the result of a vehicle crash in front of Veterans Memorial High School

Date: Tuesday, September 8, 2015, 17:22
Location: 3750 Cimarron Boulevard
Event: Vehicle Crash with Fatal Injuries
Case Number: 1509080128

A 48-year-old man died as the result of a vehicle crash in front of Veterans Memorial High School this afternoon.

The 48-year-old man operated a Dodge Charger and was stopped in the driveway for the school and waited for traffic to leave the school and enter Cimarron Boulevard. A 26-year-old man operated a red Ford F-150 pickup truck and traveled north on Cimarron Boulevard in front of the High School. The truck left the roadway to travel on the sidewalk and the front center of the truck struck the drivers door of the Dodge Charger. Both vehicles were thrown into the soil on the grounds of the High School.

The 26-year-old man was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The 48-year-old man was transported to the hospital, but did not survive.

The Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section responded to measure and construct a scale diagram and to investigate the crash. The Crash Investigators have at least one witness who provided a statement. Investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, but do believe speed was a factor to the fatal injuries and significant damage to the vehicles.

The Corpus Christi Police closed the two northbound lanes of traffic on Cimarron Boulevard and let northbound traffic travel in the center turn lane past the crash scene from 5:45pm until about 9pm Tuesday night while Crash Investigators used laser mapping systems, collected evidence and photographed the scene.

The 26-year-old man remains in the hospital for medical treatment and no charges have been applied; however, Crash Investigators believe charges will be applied at a later time if evidence and information supports a criminal accusation. Crash Investigators know more people saw the event and ask anyone with any information about this crash, no matter how insignificant it may seem to the witness, to contact the Traffic Safety Section at 886-2600 during business hours. Investigators want the public not to assume information has been provided to Investigators and to contact the Investigators as soon as possible.

The Public can expect to see increased traffic enforcement in the 3700 block of Cimarron in the near future.
