Detectives Seek Help to Identify Chainsaw Thief

The Corpus Christi Police would like help from the public to identify and locate a man accused of theft from a store located at 1530 Airline Road on March 14, 2014. A 46-year-old man reported the theft to the Corpus Christi Police and explained that the man entered the store, took a chainsaw valued at $400 dollars from the display case, and walked out of the store without paying for the merchandise. The man is described as a man with medium brown skin about 20 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches tall, about 180 pounds, has black hair which was in a crew cut style, and he wore a white t-shirt, yellow safety shirt with reflective tape, blue jeans and boots.

A 30-year-old man reported an aggravated assault at the 900 block of Redmond Street to Corpus Christi Police Sunday night. The 30-year-old man told Corpus Christi Police that a 55-year-old man slashed his abdomen with a kitchen knife which cut the 30-year-old man’s shirt and caused a minor cut to his torso. The 30-year-old man was treated at the scene by an ambulance crew and released. The 55-year-old man left the area before law enforcement arrived and Officers continue to investigate this crime.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 25-year-old Don Carnley (12/13/1988) for unlawful possession of a firearm and other charges after he ran from Police who responded to a fight at 2022 Treyway Lane Sunday morning. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of multiple people involved in a fight in the parking lot at 1:12am Sunday morning. Officers were notified before they arrived that a man in the fight had a gun. Officers saw Carnley run from the parking lot once Carnley saw the Officers arrive. Officers chased and captured Carnley. Officers discovered a handgun and a white substance the Officers believed to be crack-cocaine. Officers discovered Carnley had warrants for his arrest for an assault, an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and a municipal court warrant for no insurance. The Officers also learned Carnley was previously convicted of a felony offense. Officers arrested Carnely for the three warrants, evading arrest, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a controlled substance, and for tampering with evidence. Officers then delivered Carnley to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 43-year-old William Lerz (7/26/1970) for driving a stolen vehicle on the 4200 block of Schanen Boulevard Sunday night. A Corpus Christi Police Officer initiated a traffic stop at 9:36pm Sunday night after he saw a blue 2014 Dodge Ram pickup truck with a defective license plate light. The Officer discovered the driver, 43-year-old William Lerz, had a suspended license and no insurance for the vehicle. The Officer was then notified that the vehicle was reported stolen out of San Patricio County. The Officer arrested Lerz for unauthorized use of a vehicle and for driving while license invalid. The Officer discovered drug paraphernalia and a crystal substance that the Officer believed was methamphetamine. Lerz was additionally charged for possession of dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia and then delivered to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police Robbery/Homicide Detectives have obtained a warrant for arrest for 26-year-old  Seanette Villarreal (8/22/1987) for the robbery at the Value Bank on April 12, 2014. Detectives would like to thank the public for the large response to identify Villarreal, and would now like help from the public to locate Villarreal.

The last known address for Villarreal was on the 5000 block of Royalton and she is described as a white female who stands 5 feet five inches tall, weighs 120 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes. Villarreal is accused of robbery, a second degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. The warrant for the arrest of Villarreal was issued from the Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1.

Corpus Christi Police arrested two men for a beer run and other charges after a traffic stop on the 2000 block of Treyway Lane Thursday night. A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted a traffic stop after he saw a gray 2000 Mitsubishi Montero travel faster than the posted speed limit on Holly at Treyway. The Officer saw the Montero turn onto Treyway Lane at a high rate of speed and into oncoming traffic. The Officer conducted a stop and discovered the driver, 21-year-old David Delbosque (6/21/1992) had a warrant for his arrest for a probation violation. The Officer heard a call for a theft of beer at a convenience store located at Airline and Holly in which the suspect description matched Delbosque and his passenger, 23-year-old Brian Mathis (9/5/1990). The Officer discovered other evidence of the theft in the Montero and the Officer arrested Delbosque and Mathis for the theft. The Officer impounded the Montero, returned the beer to the store, and delivered Delbosque and Mathis to the city detention center.

District Attorney Provides Phlebotomist To Detention Center This Weekend

The District Attorney’s Office will provide a phlebotomist for this holiday weekend to take blood draws at the city detention center.

Starting tonight, Thursday April 17th at 10 PM until Saturday April 19th the phlebotomist will be on standby to assist officers to obtain collection of blood evidence for accusations of driving while intoxicated.  This will expedite the process after an intoxicated driving suspect consents to give a sample or a  search warrant is issued.   The phlebotomist will be inside city detention center those nights over this weekend from 10 PM until 4 AM.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a fight which escalated to a shooting at a gas station located at 1050 Nueces Bay Boulevard Wednesday. Witnesses told Officers a 40-year-old man and a 21-year-old man got into a fist fight over cutting in line for the fuel pump. A 45-year-old man intervened to break up the fight and the 21-year-old man got into a truck to leave. The truck driven by the 21-year-old man moved forward and struck the 45-year-old man. The 21-year-old man revved the engine and the 45-year-old man presented a pistol and fired one shot. The 21-year-old man was struck by the gunshot in his right hand. The 21-year-old man was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. No arrests have been made and Detectives continue to investigate.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 35-year-old Richard Hernandez (8/10/1978) for theft of a firearm and several charges of possession of a controlled substance after a burglary at a home on the 4300 block of Naples Street Thursday morning. A 50-year-old man reported a burglary at his home at 2:49am and explained to Officers he was asleep in his bedroom when a man came into his home and assaulted him. The 50-year-old man provided Officers with a description of the vehicle the men used to leave the scene. A Corpus Christi Police Officer saw a vehicle with an out tail light which matched the description of the suspect vehicle on the 4000 block of Ayers Street. The Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled. The vehicle stopped at the 400 block of Vanderbilt and the Officer arrested the driver, 35-year-old Richard Hernandez, and the passenger, Gloria Cortez (8/21/1980). The Officers discovered Hernandez had a pistol which was reported stolen out of Brazos County in 2012. Officers also discovered contraband which the Officers believe to be crack-cocaine. Officers impounded the vehicle and delivered Hernandez and Cortez to the city detention center.

Officers are seeking to apprehend 22 year old Shawna Atchley (5/31/1991) for evading arrest in a vehicle. The warrant for her arrest was issued March 31, 2014 from the 347th District Court. Atchley is described as a white female who is 5 feet 4 inches tall, 115 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair. The last known address for Atchley was in Aransas Pass.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 42-year-old Johnnie Shull (6/29/1971) for discharging a firearm inside the city limits and for public intoxication at Padre Bali Park Tuesday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a man who discharged a firearm in the air at the park. Officers found Shull with a pistol and arrested him for discharging a firearm inside the city limits and for public intoxication.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer is credited with possibly saving the life of a 55-year-old woman from an apartment fire at 9320 South Padre Island Drive Tuesday morning. Three Corpus Christi Police Officers: Lieutenant Tom Nichols; Officer Brian Martin; and Officer Andres Alvarez responded to a fire at an apartment at 2:30am Tuesday morning and arrived before the Fire Department. The Officers heard screams and saw smoke inside the apartment and they forced open the door to provide help. Lt. Nichols heard the yelling from one of the occupants getting closer, but apparently unable to get to the door.  At that point, Lt. Nichols got onto his hands and knees and crawled through the apartment living room where the couch and recliner were on fire.  Amidst the smoke, Lt. Nichols made it into the hall where he made contact with a 55 year old woman and pulled her out of the apartment.

The Corpus Christi Fire Department arrived and attacked the fire, then were able to rescue a 28 year old woman. The 28 year old woman and the 55 year old woman were transported to the hospital for injuries from the fire. Lt. Nichols was transported to Bay Area Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and released. Officers Martin and Alvarez were treated for minor smoke inhalation and released back to duty.

A 43-year-old woman reported a theft at a grocery store located at 5313 Saratoga Boulevard to Corpus Christi Police Tuesday in which the suspect left behind an eight month old child. Corpus Christi Police responded to the complaint at 8:40pm and the 43-year-old woman explained to Officers that she saw a 24-year-old woman take merchandise from the store displays and load a shopping cart, then walk out of the store without paying for the merchandise. The 43-year-old woman told Officers she confronted the 24-year-old woman and the 24-year-old woman left the shopping cart behind and ran to a red Ford Mustang, then drove away. The 43-year-old woman told Officers an eight month old child was in the shopping cart left behind by the 24-year-old woman. Officers contacted a family member of the child to care for the baby. Officers were not able to locate the 24-year-old woman, but know her identity. Officers generated a criminal complaint for the theft and for child abandonment.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 23-year-old Meagan Boswell (2/13/1991) for driving while intoxicated after she was found asleep at the wheel at a drive through window at a restaurant located at 6505 Everhart Road Tuesday morning. Corpus Christi Police responded to a woman asleep at the wheel in a black 2013 Chevrolet truck at 3:10am and the truck was drifting slowly into traffic from the parking lot. Officers banged on the vehicle until Boswell woke and the Officers made sure she was not injured or ill. Officers then arrested Boswell, impounded the truck, then delivered Boswell to the city detention center.

Workers Discover Human Remains in Agnes Street Business

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a discovery of human remains at a garbage collection business at 4414 Agnes Street Tuesday morning. An employee discovered the human remains at the business among trash and called for emergency services at 6:38am. Emergency Medical Services determined the human remains were a deceased person and the Corpus Christi Police responded with an investigation to determine the circumstances of the person’s death. The Corpus Christi Police Forensics Lab Technicians responded to document and photograph the physical evidence, the Robbery/Homicide Detectives responded to collect information and determine if this is a product of a criminal action or if this was accidental, and the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to collect the remains and determine the cause of death.

Update:

The Corpus Christi Police Robbery/Homicide Detectives determined the human remains are a 41 year old female. Detectives continue to investigate to determine where the woman was collected and if this is the product of a criminal action. The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office has collected the 41 year old woman and will conduct an examination to determine the cause of death and notify the next of kin.

Men Shoot Store Employee During Robbery On Ayers Street

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a robbery at a store located at 1602 Ayers Street which sent a 59-year-old man to the hospital with what Officers believe are gunshot wounds Monday afternoon. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a robbery at 1:06pm and discovered a 59-year-old man with obvious injuries. Officers learned that two men with masks that covered their faces entered the store and displayed a firearm. The two masked men left the store before Officers arrived. Witnesses told Officers a red four door car was seen leaving the store on Brownlee Boulevard after the robbery which may have had the two robbery suspects.

The 59-year-old man was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of his injuries. Corpus Christi Police Robbery/Homicide Detectives arrived at the scene to gather information and evidence from the scene and they continue to search for the men responsible for this crime.

Update:

Corpus Christi Police Robbery/Homicide Detectives arrested three people related to this event. The 59-year-old man expired at the hospital and did not survive his injuries. Detectives arrested 26-year-old Del Victoria Cavazos (6/2/1987); 26-year-old Arturo Navarro (1/18/1988); and 26-year-old Daniel Garcia (8/1/1987) for the death of the 59-year-old man. All three arrested persons were charged with capital murder because they are accused of having caused the death of an individual while in the course of commenting a felony offense which is punishable by either life in prison or death.
