Police Seek Two Men For Robbery on Leopard Street

                A 36-year-old man reported he was robbed Monday morning in the HEB parking lot at Violet and Leopard Street.

The 36-year-old man told police he parked his vehicle and then was confronted by two Hispanic men.  According to the 36-year-old man, a Hispanic man displayed a pistol and demanded money. The 36-year-old man said the second Hispanic man stood next to the man with the pistol and watched the robbery. The 36-year-old man said the two Hispanic men got cash and then left in a red two door passenger car. The red car was last seen travelling north on Violet Road.

The suspect with the pistol is described as a Hispanic man between 35-40 years of age, 5ft. 11 inches tall; about 150 pounds, bald, with light skin, a star tattoo under his left eye, and a goatee. The second suspect is described as a Hispanic man between 20 – 30 years of age, 5ft 8 inches tall, about 140 pounds, with a mustache and a spider web tattoo on his left elbow. Both men were bald and left in a red 4 door sedan that had damage to the left rear bumper.

No injuries were reported in this event.

Police Participate In Toy Drive This Saturday

Officers of the Corpus Christi Police Department will participate in a flag football game for a charity toy drive this Saturday, December 1, 2012 at the John Paul School field located at 3036 Saratoga Boulevard.

The event is organized by the League of Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council #1 and Judge Robert (Bobby) Balderas. The toys will be collected by LULAC.

The football games will begin at 9:00am on Saturday, December 1 with a game between the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office and the Corpus Christi Fire Department. The second game will be between the Corpus Christi Police Officers and the Robstown Police Officers. The public is encouraged to attend the events. Admission is an unwrapped new toy or a cash donation to the LULAC.

Participants consider this to be a friendly competition to promote generosity in our community.

Police Chief Announces Anti-D.W.I. Art and Slogan Contest Winners

High School students who contributed an entry to the contest stand with thier families as the winning contestants were displayed on the billboard at the 4300 block of Staples Street Wednesday morning.

The Corpus Christi Police Department hosted a contest in October 2012 for Corpus Christi High School students to develop the new advertising campaign to discourage drunk driving. The winners of the contest were announced November 21, 2012 at 10am at the digital billboard located at the 4300 block of South Staples.

The Corpus Christi Police Department accepted 202 entries for two categories. There were 114 entries for the artwork and 87 slogan entries. The best three entries from each of the two categories were awarded prizes which include ipads, itouches, and nanopods. The artwork and slogans will be displayed on billboards throughout Corpus Christi during the month of December.

The purpose of the contest was to solicit a more creative advertising campaign from the newest vehicle drivers to discourage drunk driving. The prizes were awarded by donation from the Citizens in Support of the Corpus Christi Police non-profit organization.

Donors Present “Bears On The Beat” At Police Station

 

Co-chair of the “Bears on the Beat” program, Lulana Cain, places a donated bear next to a Corpus Christi Police patrol car. The bears will be provided to traumatized children to offer comfort.

The Corpus Christi Association of Realtors donated 4000 stuffed animals in their annual “Bears On The Beat” program.

 

The co-chairs of the Bears On The Beat program, Lulana Cain and Chase McRoberts, presented the bears at the Main Police Station at 321 John Sartain Street at 10am. The bears are used by Police Officers and representatives from the Victims Advocacy Center to comfort traumatized children.  The program co-chair, Lulana Cain said she is involved with the program because her daughter was involved in a vehicle crash and was presented a bear for comfort which was a meaningful gesture for her family.

 

The Corpus Christi Association of Realtors held a contest among their member organizations to collect bears for donation. The contest winner, Keller Williams Coastal Bend Realty, received the travelling trophy for their donation of 1.256 bears. The second place winner was Remax Associates with 1,222 donated bears and the third place winner was Caldwell Bankers with 1,000 bears donated.

Police Arrest Woman After 8am Crash For DWI With A 2 Year Old Passenger

                A 22-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday morning for driving while intoxicated after she was involved in a vehicle crash with her two-year old son as a passenger.

A person called Corpus Christi Police and followed a green 1997 Dodge Ram pickup truck which swerved through lanes of traffic, then struck construction signs on Staples Street. The truck eventually struck a stopped car on Weber near South Padre Island Drive. The truck pulled into a parking lot and Corpus Christi Police Officers arrived.

The driver of the truck, 22-year-old Julie Cantu (5/3/1990) was not injured in the crash and displayed indications that she was intoxicated. The investigating patrol officer also discovered a two-year old passenger in the back seat of the truck. The child was not harmed.

The officer called for family members to pick up the child. Cantu was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger, a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. Cantu was taken to the hospital for a medical clearance and then delivered to the city detention center.

Police Arrest Two Men For Overnight Theft At Bill Witt Park

                Two men were arrested Wednesday morning for stealing wire from the Bill Witt Park on Yorktown Boulevard.

A Corpus Christi Police Patrol Officer went into Bill Witt Park at about 12:45am and found two men next to a blue 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck and a green 2003 Toyota Tacoma. The officer met the men and informed them they were in violation of the city park curfew. The trucks had copper wire in the beds of the trucks and the patrol officer found drag marks from several man holes in the parks.

The officer discovered as much as 900 feet of wire was taken from the park. John Lewis (1/19/1981) was arrested for a Nueces County Warrant for burglary to a motor vehicle. Lewis was additionally charged with the violation of park curfew and for theft of metal.

Charles Carter (8/12/1974) was arrested for the theft of metal and for violation of park curfew. The theft of metal charge is a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. The two trucks were impounded and the two men were delivered to the city detention center.

The Corpus Christi Police Chief, Floyd Simpson, was pleased to celebrate accomplishments of several individuals in a ceremony at the main Police Station Tuesday morning.

A citizen, Bill Fowler, was commended with a Citizens Certificate of Merit for his effort on May 4, 2012. Eighteen year old Fowler stopped his vehicle in the Wendy’s parking lot when he saw an officer in a struggle in an attempt to effect an arrest. Fowler has enlisted in the United States Army and was invited to apply for employment with the Corpus Christi Police Department if he chooses to change career paths.

Life Saving Awards were then distributed to Senior Officer Armando Vasquez, Senior Officer Adam Thurman, and Senior Officer Graciela Luna-Garcia for their efforts to save the life of a 15-year-old boy who was struck by a car on September 24, 2012.

Officer Brandon Cordell was awarded a life saving award for his life saving effort with Officer Jason Tello on April 24, 2012 at the 500 block of Rosemary. Officer Cordell and Officer Tello provided C.P.R. on a 51-year-old woman until Emergency Medical Services arrived and transported her to the hospital where she survived.

Senior Officer Corey Casey was awarded the Field Training Officer of the Year for his efforts to train new officers who most recently graduated from the police academy.

Chief Promotes Blackmon To Captain

The Corpus Christi Police Chief, Floyd Simpson, was pleased to promote David Blackmon to the rank of Captain in a ceremony Tuesday afternoon at the Main Police Station.

David Blackmon was hired by the Corpus Christi Police Department in 1989. He was awarded a Life Saving Award in 2006. He served in the Directed Patrol for several years and then he was most recently assigned as a supervisor in the Narcotics Division.

Police Chief Simpson said he relies on the captains to mold seasoned officers. Chief Simpson said he has full faith in Captain Blackmon to be a positive role model for the future of this police department.

 

Captain Blackmon has his rank pinned onto his collar by his wife, Brenda.

 

 

 

 

Police Arrest Three Men For Heroin Distribution On North Naylor Circle

                Three men were arrested Thursday for their involvement with heroin trafficking in the Corpus Christi area. The Corpus Christi Police Narcotics/Vice Investigation Division conducted an investigation on a residence in the 3500 block of North Naylor Circle.

The Investigators followed a vehicle from the house on Naylor Circle and then conducted a traffic stop at the 500 block of 19th Street.  The investigators discovered a large amount of cash and heroin. Investigators arrested 31 year old Ruben Soliz (12/2/1980) and 21 year old Brandon Reyes (12/28/1990) for possession of a controlled substance.

Investigators then went to the 3500 North Naylor and served a search warrant and then discovered more narcotics. Investigators arrested 18 year old Anthony Liscano (3/29/1994) at the residence for tampering with evidence.

Investigators will apply for seizure of the cash, two televisions, and a vehicle in connection with this case.

The Narcotics seized include:

 

  • Powder Heroin :  468.08 grams  ($11,200 value)
  • Hydro Marijuana : 28.83 grams ($375 value)
  • Meth :  1 gram  ($140 value)

Neighbors Call Police And Catch A Burglar On Atlantic Street

                A 30-year-old man was arrested Wednesday morning for Burglary of a Habitation on the 700 block of Atlantic.

A 63-year-old woman called police at about 10am to report a man who jumped a fence at her neighbor’s house. The 63-year-old woman and a 51-year-old man told the responding Corpus Christi Police Officer that the man who jumped the fence had a bag and left toward Staples Street.

The Police Officer went to Staples Street and saw 30-year-old Richard Cavada (4/27/1982) run on Sixteenth Street near Staples Street. Cavada had a gym bag and matched the description provided by the 51-year-old man and the 63-year-old woman.

The officer discovered property that was later reported as stolen. The investigating officers discovered a broken back door to a residence and the home owner identified property that was missing from inside the home.

Cavada was arrested for Burglary of a Habitation, a second degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.  Cavada also was arrested for a Municipal Court Warrant for failure to appear.
