The Corpus Christi Police Department has arrested a subject involved in a burglary to a residence case. This case involved the suspect entering the residence while the home owner was home asleep.

The Criminal Investigation Division was able to gather evidence, identify a suspect, and a warrant was secured for 32 year old Orlin Geovany Murillo-Veliz for burglary to a residence.

The warrant was given to the Patrol Division who worked tirelessly to locate Orlin Geovany Murillo-Veliz. He was arrested and transported to the City Detention Center for processing.

The Corpus Christi Police Department Auto Theft Task Force will be conducting Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) stamping on trailers.

If your trailer is registered and has a VIN assigned but it is not stamped on your trailer, bring it to the Corpus Christi Police Department Impound Lot (5485 Greenwood) on any of the dates listed below. The Auto Theft Task Force will stamp your assigned VIN on your trailer free of charge.

If you have a trailer that you are trying to register, the Auto Theft Task Force performs 68A’s every 1^st and 3^rd Wednesday of the month at the Impound Lot from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.

This Memorial Day Weekend the Corpus Christi Police Department wants our community to have fun and be safe. This weekend there is a warning for possible rip currents at the beach.

If you are going out to the beach and plan on swimming be sure to never swim alone and if possible swim where there is a lifeguard on duty.

If you are caught in a rip current don’t fight the current but rather swim parallel to the beach until you are free from the current. If you can’t escape, float or tread water then swim parallel to the shore and then back to the beach. If you need help, call or wave for assistance.

On Tuesday May 21^st and again on Thursday May 23^rd the Corpus Christi Police Department responded to two different locations for reports of a Burglary to a Residence.

In each incident the suspect was described as a Hispanic Male. In one incident the reporting party added that the suspect appeared to be between the ages of 35 to 40 years of age, clean cut with short hair.

These two incidents are very concerning to the Corpus Christi Police Department as the suspect entered the residence while the victims were home, asleep and the suspect entered their bedrooms.

The Corpus Christi Police Department would ask our citizens to be sure to secure their residence at night by locking all your windows and doors.

Neighborhood on Watch is a voluntary program organized by concerned citizens to reduce crime in their immediate communities. Working together with local law enforcement agencies, citizens can learn when and how to report suspicious activities, assist in property identification, conduct home security surveys and implement home security measures and precautions.

The Corpus Christi Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) in conjunction with Homeland Security Investigations (Corpus Christi office) and Texas Department of Public Safety (Criminal Investigation Division Corpus Christi office) conducted an online solicitation operation.

The operation which spanned over 5 days targeted individuals who were actively seeking to solicit inappropriate pictures of underage children or in some cases meet with children for the purpose of sexual activity. During the operation the following individuals were apprehended and arrested for the following charges:

Online Solicitation of a Minor (2^nd degree felony)
Distribution or Display of Harmful Material to a Minor (A misdemeanor)

*Additional warrants on other offenders related to this operation are forthcoming and those offenders will be arrested at a later date*

The CCPD Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Homeland Security Investigations and Texas Department of Public Safety continually strives to protect the children of the Corpus Christi and surrounding communities from these online predators. The CCPD ICAC unit reminds parents and guardians to be diligent in monitoring their children’s online activities on all their electronic devices.

How the scam works.

You are contacted by an individual via email, text or you find an advertisement about earning money by shrink wrapping your vehicle with an advertisement for a major company.

The suspect tells you that they will send you a check for a couple hundred dollars but when the check arrives it is for several thousand.

The suspect then tells you to deposit the full amount in your account and then wire most of the money to the company that will wrap your vehicle.

Weeks after you wire the money the check bounces and your bank tells you that it was a fake check. Now you are on the hook for the money that you wired, and you must pay back your bank.

How to keep from being a victim.

Trust your gut feeling, if it sounds too good to be true then it is.

If a company or anyone sends you more money than what you are expecting and then they ask you to wire the money back to them or to another person, it is most likely a scam.

Check the internet. You should do your research about the company or the deal that they are offering. A good place to find out about scams is the Better Business Bureau, Federal Trade Commission, or the Texas Attorney Generals Office.

IH 37 Eastbound and IH 37 Westbound at Chaparral
Will be closed at 7:45 pm just prior to the start of the parade.
Any traffic that arrives on IH 37 WB after 7:45 pm will be diverted onto Mesquite either back on to IH 37 EB or southbound on Mesquite then uptown.

Highway 181 Southbound to Twigg and North Upper Broadway
This off ramp area will be closed at 5:00 pm as we prepare for the start of the parade.
Any traffic that arrives at this off ramp after 5:00pm will be directed towards IH 37 Eastbound.

East Port Ave from Chaparral St. to West Broadway St.
This area will be closed at 6:00 pm.
Any traffic that arrives at this location after 6:00 pm will be directed back to IH 37.

During inclement weather we want our community to be safe as they travel on the roadways.

Here are a few helpful tips:

-Drive slower than usual so that you have time to react to other traffic on the roadway.
-Turn on your head lights so that you are visible to other vehicles and pedestrians.
-Be aware of possible flooding in low lying areas.
-Do not drive through flooded streets.
-It only takes 6 inches of flowing water to knock a pedestrian off their feet.
-It only takes 12 inches of flowing water to float a car or SUV.
