At approximately 4:10 am on Sunday, July 25, 2021 officers were dispatched to the 4500 block of Weber reference a shooting with injuries. When officers arrived on scene, they found a 32-year-old male victim who had been shot and sustained life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital by medics where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

Detectives have secured a Capital Murder Warrant ($1,000,000 bond) for 40 year old Johnny Richard Alvarez. Johnny is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs approximately 200 pounds. He is bald with brown eyes.

On Sunday May 2, 2021 at 8:29 pm officers were dispatched to the 4900 block of Shadowbend for a domestic disturbance in which the offender had threatened to come to the residence and he was armed with a weapon.

The offender was not at the residence at the time that the officers contacted one of the involved parties. The officers gathered information and stayed near the residence as the report was being written.

The offender drove up to the residence in the vehicle that was described by the reporting party and it was at this time the officers conducted a felony stop due to the report of him being armed.

The offender exited the vehicle, failed to comply with the officer’s commands, and produced a weapon at which time the officers were forced to discharge their weapons striking the offender.

The officers immediately began to provide first aid to the offender while waiting for an ambulance to arrive on scene. The offender was transported to the hospital and at last update was in critical but stable condition.

We need your help locating 81 year old Woodrow Thorne. Mr. Thorne has been missing since late this morning. He suffers from dementia and has partial paralysis in his left arm. He is 5’10” tall and weighs approximately 150 pounds. Mr. Thorne was last seen wearing a grey shirt, blue jeans, black boots, a black sweater, a black cap and sunglasses. Mr. Thorne left in a black Cadillac XTS, license plate 4DV173.

Shortly after midnight on March 17, 2021, 21 year old Destiny Garza turned herself in to authorities at the Nueces County Jail. Thank you to everyone that assisted in this investigation.

A question we have been frequently asked is when are the roads going to open? The short answer is when it is safe. We don’t anticipate that the major bridges (JFK and the Harbor Bridge) will be open until tomorrow afternoon. This will also include the freeway and major overpasses.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 1500 Frio in reference to a shooting victim. Officers arrived and discovered that a 42 year old male had been shot. The victim was conscious and was speaking to officers. During the investigation officers located the 39 year old suspect at the scene of the crime (5700 Greenwood) and detained him.

The basic information officers were able to obtain is that the victim was sitting in a vehicle at 5700 Greenwood. The suspect came up to the vehicle and the two started arguing over a previous encounter. The argument escalated and the suspect fired several rounds striking the victim in the torso. Officers arrested 39 year old John Escobedo for aggravated assault and transported him to the City Detention Center. The victim was transported to a local hospital and was last reported in serious but stable condition.

Incident: Aggravated Robbery

On December 29, 2020 at approximately 1:44 am officers were dispatched to the area of 3000 McKinzie Rd. for a robbery that just occurred. Officers arrived and contacted the employee. The officers were told by the employee that two males dressed in all black, wearing hoodies and gloves entered the store. The suspects then displayed knives and demanded money from the register. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash and some other items from the store and then fled the scene.

Officers were in the area looking for the suspects when they observed a white pickup with three occupants in the area of the robbery. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the area N. Harrington and Charles Rd. The vehicle came to a stop and all three occupants fled on foot. Officers set up a perimeter and conducted a search. Officers located a 17 year old male suspect. They arrested Jorge Garza and transported him to the City Detention Center. Inside the pickup officers located cash and the property that was taken during the robbery. The other two male suspects were not apprehended.

Today I tested positive for COVID-19, I am feeling fine and expect a positive recovery. I will continue to work from home for the next two weeks during my quarantine while Assistant Chief David Blackmon handles duties at the Main Police Station. 

Despite my best efforts to protect myself I tested positive for the virus. Anyone can get COVID-19 and I encourage all of our community to follow the protocols given by the Health Department. We as a community have to take the virus seriously, for ourselves and the ones we care for.

On Monday, December 14^th, 2020 at approximately 5:45 am a light-colored pick-up drove in the area of 900 Cunningham Street and 3900 Willow Street. An occupant in the vehicle discharging a weapon and stuck a residence in each neighborhood with no injuries to the occupants.

The vehicle appears to be a light colored 4-door pickup, possibly a Ford F-150 with running boards. The Corpus Christi Police Department is asking for our community’s help in identifying the suspect vehicle and or the occupants.

Incident: Credit Card Abuse

Corpus Christi Police Detectives need your help identifying these two suspects involved in a credit card abuse case. Officers were contacted by a victim who told officers that she checked her statements and discovered suspicious charges. The victim contacted the businesses and attempted to get video of the incidents. Detectives followed up and obtained the video from 2 separate incidents. The suspects are suspected of using the credit card at a local restaurant and grocery store.

The male suspect is seen wearing slip on style shoes, torn blue jeans, a dark hoodie with lettering and a orange or red hat. The female has long black hair, wearing a sleeveless black dress and sandals.
