Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a robbery of a convenience store located in the 5600 block of Leopard Street. The 52 year old store clerk told officers that she was behind the counter of the store when a male suspect, that had a  mask over his head, charged into the store with a knife in his hand. The male then walked behind the counter and opened the cash register, grabbed cash and ran out the store. The suspect was described as 5`6″ to 5`7″, stocky male in his late twenties wearing a gray long sleeve shirt, blue pants and brown work boots. Camera images showing the suspect were released by investigators. Offense: City Vehicle Crash

A Corpus Christi Police Officer on patrol was traveling east on Agnes St when a 2003 Nissan X-Terra driven by a 38 year old male stopped at a stop sign but then entered the intersection failing to yield the right of way to the police unit. The officer attempted to avoid the crash by making a hard right but was unable to avoid being struck by the vehicle. After the police unit was hit it veered off into a building, causing minor damage and also struck a guide wire on a telephone pole. The officer was not injured. The Nissan had four people in it; two passengers were transported by CCFD EMS to a hospital for treatment. The driver was cited for failure to yield right of way, and no liability insurance. He was not injured, but his vehicle was impounded.

An 18 year old female victim called Corpus Christi Police and told them she was driving down S. Padre Island Dr. near Kostoryz Rd. when she saw her 23 year old ex-boyfriend speeding up behind her in a truck. The male suspect used his truck to ram into the passenger side of the vehicle she was in. After being hit, the male stopped right in front of her at an angle, so she could not drive forward. He got out of his truck and jumped on the hood of her car screaming that he wasn`t getting off the car until she gave the car to him. He grabbed her keys and then moved his truck to the parking lot of a business located in the 3500 block of S. Padre Island Dr. The suspect then came back out to the street and grabbed her out of the car by force. He attempted to speed off but tore off the front bumper of her car. He got out and put the bumper in the back seat. The female also said she was unable to get her 10 month old son that she had with the male out of the vehicle before he took off in the car leaving her standing in the parking lot. A few minutes later, officers were able to contact a family member of the suspect who said he had the child after the suspect had dropped the kid off to him and left. Officers are currently still looking for the male suspect and the female’s vehicle. The truck the suspect left behind was impounded.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to what appeared to be a shooting in the 1900 block of Mussett Street. Officers found a 34 year old male down on the sidewalk with a head injury. The victim was taken by CCFD EMS to the hospital for treatment. Officers were able to locate a female witness who told them that the victim had gotten into a fight with a Hispanic male and when it was over the victim was on the sidewalk bleeding and unconscious. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arriving. Hospital staff later discovered the victim was not shot but appeared to have a puncture wound to his head, and the injuries did not appear to be life threatening. Officers were not provided a suspect description, and are still currently investigating this case.

A 28 year old female store clerk called police after the business was robbed by three suspects one of which had a handgun. She said that a young Hispanic male, 17-18 years old, wearing a red shirt, came in and attempted to purchase a tobacco product but the clerk refused since the male did not have identification to verify his age. He left the store only to return a few minutes later to ask again and he was again turned down.

The clerk became suspicious when he returned a third time and purchased a beverage. While he was in the store, two more males entered, one wearing a dark jacket, a ski mask and armed with a handgun, demanding money. The third male jumped over the counter and removed money from the register and all three then left the store. It is unknown if the male suspect who was attempting to purchase items was with the two other suspects, however he fled and officers need to speak to him. He is described as being 5’6”-5’7” tall, about 130 to 150 pounds with black hair. The suspect armed with the weapon was described as a Hispanic male, unknown age, about 5’7” to 5’10”, 140 to 160 pounds, wearing a dark shirt and khaki pants. The suspect who jumped the counter and grabbed the money is described as a white male unknown age height or weight, last seen wearing a black shirt with white writing on it, khaki shorts and a bandana.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a business located in the 1100 block of Waldron Road for an individual attempting to cash a forged check from a car in the drive through lane. Officers were shown a cashier`s check for over $1,700 issued by another bank. That bank was contacted and they said the check was not issued by them and was a forgery. Roberto Seidner (08/15/1949) was arrested for forgery, a state jail felony and transported to the City Detention Center without incident. The 2012 Mercedes sedan he was in was impounded.

The police department reminds everyone to never agree to cash a check or money order made out to you for over the amount you are owed, with the agreement that you will send someone else the difference.

Offense: Child Neglect (PC 22.041 State Jail Felony)

Corpus Christi Police responded to a call in the 15000 Leeward Dr. in response to an intoxicated female pushing a stroller in the middle of the road with a child in it. Officers arrived and observed Charlotte Earwood (01/05/1973), staggering while walking north on the side of Leeward Dr. and she was pushing a small pink stroller.

As officers approached the female she nearly lost her balance and fell and when she noticed the officers, she dropped two 16 oz. Lone Star beer cans. Officers contacted her, and they immediately detected a very strong odor of alcohol coming from her person and her breath and she refused to let go of the carrier. The 20 month old child was crying and officers had to pull the females right hand off the carrier`s handle in order for her to let loose of it. Four other witnesses told officers they saw the female staggering while walking and drinking beer and they were concerned for the safety of the female and the child. CCFD EMS responded to check on the child and the female who was identified as the child’s grandmother was arrested. She was charged with child neglect, a state jail felony, and public intoxication, a Class C misdemeanor. The child was released to the grandfather when he arrived at the scene.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer responded to a call about a male hanging around a black BMW in the 800 block of S. Staples Street. The officer observed the only black BMW parked in front of a business and approached the car. He could see someone sitting in the driver seat and he also noticed the window on the driver’s side had been broken out. The male sitting in the car had small cuts on his hands. The officer was able to contact the vehicles owner, and he said that he did not give the male permission to be inside his vehicle. Richard Garcia (04/261995) was arrested for burglary of a vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor. He estimated the damage to the window to be about $200.

Ceremony Unveiling The “Peace Officers Memorial Highway” Signs.

On Tuesday, July 22, at 10:00 a.m. there will be a  ceremony unveiling the  “Peace Officers Memorial Highway” signs. The signs are located at State Highway 358 east and Agnes Street. The ceremony will be held at the Agnes Street on ramp to State Highway 358 east in the grassy median.​  The signs are the final phase of this memorial that started off as House Bill 3831, which passed in the last legislative session.  It was authored by South Texas Representatives Abel Herrero, Todd Hunter and Senator “Chuy” Hinojosa. The portion of State Highway 358 from Interstate Highway 37 to State Highway 286  is designated as the “Peace Officers Memorial Highway”.

Private funds were raised to pay for the manufacturing and installation of the two signs. ​Everyone  is encouraged to attend the ceremony as the signs are unveiled in remembrance of those officers that paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Teague Lane Homicide

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a shooting call at a townhome located in the 13600 block of Teague Lane. Officers found a 38 year old female standing outside the front door of the townhome. She told them that her 41 year old husband entered the rear door of her townhome armed with a handgun, and shot the victim in the living room. Officers found a 44 year old male with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported by CCFD EMS to Spohn Memorial Hospital where he later died of his injuries. The female told officers that the suspect left out the rear door, and drove away in a blue suburban, possibly going back to his home on a ranch outside of Benavides, Texas. The female also told officers that her two children, a 16 year old female and an 11 year old male were also at the home in Benavides. Corpus Christi Police contacted the Duval County Sheriff’s Department and they responded to the home and secured the children. Officers there also located the suspect, and after a standoff with law enforcement officers from Duval County the suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a stabbing on a RTA bus in the 5800 block of Leopard Street. A 16 year old male victim told officers that he was stabbed twice in the right forearm while he was riding on the bus. The victim said a male approached him and said “what now” and then stabbed him. The bus was stopped at the Leopard / Lantana bus stop when the incident occurred and the suspect got off the bus with a female and left the scene. The victim told officers that the female was an ex-girlfriend from about a year ago and that the suspect is her boyfriend. The suspect is described as a hispanic male with a shaved head, about 18-19 years old, with a tear drop tattoo under his left eye. Officers checked the area but did not locate either the suspect or the female. The victim was transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital for treatment by CCFD EMS.

A 19 year old Edinburg man was driving a 2013 red Hyundai two door hatchback and taking the south to north turnaround of Interstate Highway 69 at County Rd. 52 when he failed to yield the right of way to a 2012 Peterbilt carrying a roll-off dumpster. The tractor trailer was traveling north in the left lane of the access road and struck the hatchback broadside in the passenger door. The driver of the hatchback and his 23 year old male front seat passenger were trapped in the vehicle and had to be extracted by the fire department. Both men were transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. The 32 year old truck driver was not injured in the crash. The crash forced lane closures on the access road of IH 69 for nearly three hours while Corpus Christi Police Traffic Officer investigated the crash. At this time no citations have been issued, however this crash is still under investigation.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer was on patrol when he observed a 1985 Chevrolet truck run a stop sign. The officer stopped the truck and made contact with the driver, John Gray (08/08/1979) who also had his 14 year old daughter in the truck with him. The officer observed an open container of beer under the driver seat of the vehicle. The officer checked the beer can, and noticed a small clear plastic bag that contained a light tan colored substance believed to be methamphetamine. The drug evidence was collected, and the driver was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, a state jail felony and he also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The daughter was released to her mother who showed up the scene.

Corpus Christi Police responded to an armed robbery at the Sonic Drive In located in the 13900 block of Northwest Blvd. A 19 year old employee told officers he was in the back prepping food when he observed a male suspect outside point a handgun at another 16 year old female employee. He intervened and told the suspect that he would give him the money. The suspect pointed the handgun at him and both entered the business. The suspect took money from the cash register and the safe and then left toward the back of the restaurant. The suspect is described as a white male, 20 to 30 years old, 5’10” tall and about 165 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue long sleeve shirt, gloves, black pants and a mask. Offense: Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (PC 31.07 State Jail Felony)

A Corpus Christi Police Officer checking the parking lot of a business located in the 3600 block of Leopard St. noticed a blue Chevrolet truck with a paper license tag that returned to another vehicle. The registration sticker on the windshield revealed the truck was reported stolen on June 29, 2014 from an address in the 1900 block of Saratoga Blvd. The officer set up on the vehicle and after several minutes, the truck pulled out onto Leopard St. Officers contacted the driver Paul Warner (10/17/1982) and a passenger Johnathan Phillips (02/06/1986) in the stolen vehicle and both were taken into custody without incident.

Offense: Driving While intoxicated (PC 49.04 Class B Misdemeanor)

The victim of a hit and run crash called police after a 2007 black Mercedes Benz struck his car as both were traveling east on State Highway 358 near Rodd Field Rd. The caller told police that after the suspect struck his vehicle it continued traveling east on the freeway and he was following it. Officers caught up to the suspect and the caller  on Park Road 22 and Whitecap Blvd. There the suspect had stopped to fill up with gas. Officers contacted the driver, Juan Garcia (06/06/1976) and found him to be intoxicated. He was arrested, and his vehicle was impounded. In addition to the driving while intoxicated charge, the suspect was also found to be operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.

Case Number: 1407100065
Corpus Christi Police responded to a home in the 3100 block of Halifax Drive for a robbery with weapons. Two female victims told officers they were moving items out of the house and had left the front door open. While inside the house they saw a male suspect described as being 5`7″ tall and 120-140 pounds with tattoos covering both arms enter the house caring a crowbar. The suspect demanded the keys to the truck parked out front. The male began walking toward them and they attempted to run into one of the bedrooms but a second male entered the house and grabbed one of the females by the arm. The second male was described as being about 5`8″-5`9″ tall and 170-190 pounds wearing an orange or yellow towel over his face. He was also carrying a crowbar and a large knife. The suspects took wallets and cell phones belonging to the victims and then began to try and remove a television. While they were both working to unplug the TV one of the females ran outside yelling and screaming for help. As she was running through the yard she fell and one of the suspects jumped on top of her and attempted to cover her mouth. The victim continued to yell, and the suspect took off running. The female was able to make it to a neighbor’s home and call the police. While this was occurring the second suspect was still inside the home with the other female. He left the house with the TV and cable box and went to a white Chevrolet Malibu four door car that was parked nearby. Inside the vehicle was a female in the drivers seat. A 45 year old male witness then got involved, and he approached the male with the TV. The suspect put the TV down and began swinging the crowbar at the witness. The suspect then picked up the TV and ran to the corner of Halifax St. and Calgary St. and hid in some bushes. A short time later the female driving the white vehicle pulled up and called the male out of the bushes. The male threw the TV in the back seat and got into vehicle. The second suspect then appeared from hiding and he jumped on the trunk of the vehicle and they drove away.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated (PC 49.04 Class B Misdemeanor)

Corpus Christi Police responded to a crash at the intersection of Weber Rd. and Holly Rd. The crash investigation showed that a 2001 Hyundai Sonata four door operated by a 21 year old female and occupied by a 9 month old child was stopped at the red light facing south on Weber Rd. when the vehicle they were in was struck from behind by a 2004 Lexus SUV driven by Amanda Moya (08/15/1985). Upon investigation, Ms. Moya was found to be intoxicated and arrested, for driving while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor and her vehicle was impounded. The driver and infant in the car that was struck from behind were both transported by CCFD EMS to the hospital for treatment.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated (PC 49.04 Class B Misdemeanor)

Case Number: 1407100154
Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a call involving a vehicle that had crashed into a fence, storage shed, another fence and had come to rest in the backyard of a home in the 4200 block of Snowbird St.  Witnesses saw the driver abandon the vehicle and then take off running. Officers on the scene were familiar with the vehicle and knew who usually drove it. They went to another address in the 4200 block of Snowbird St. to see if the suspect had run home. While outside the home, officers observed Juan Sanchez (05/01/1992) hiding behind a vehicle parked in the driveway. He was also found to have outstanding warrants for his arrest and they took him into custody. The crash investigation revealed that the suspect vehicle was traveling west on Cedar Pass Dr. at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and struck the two wooden fences, and a shed. Officers also determined that the suspect was intoxicated. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries he received as a result of being involved in the crash, and to provide a specimen of blood. When officers arrived at the City Detention Center the suspect attempted to escape from custody. While officers were having him exit the patrol car the suspect managed to slip his left arm from the handcuff making both hands free. He pushed off as he exited the car and ran toward Upper Broadway St. Officers gave chase and caught up to the suspect and attempted to place his hands behind his back to be handcuffed.   He kept his hands in front of his body even after being ordered numerous times to place his hands behind his back. The suspect refused officers commands and he attempted to get up with officers holding him down. After a brief struggle the suspect was handcuffed and escorted back to the jail. He was additionally charged with escape from custody and resisting arrest, both a Class A misdemeanors.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a fight call at a residence located in the 100 block of Green Branch Dr. They arrived and found a 22 year old male victim outside in the roadway with injuries to his head. He said that he and his father Jerry Lee Alvarez (02/08/1973) got into an argument over a cell phone. The father pulled out a wooden bat and started hitting his son with it. The victim didn’t appear seriously injured but he was transported to the hospital by CCFD EMS. The suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, a first degree felony.

A fourteen year old female went to hide in her bedroom closet and called police reporting a burglar in her home after she heard the front door of her home being forced open. Officers arrived and heard screaming coming from inside and made entry and found the young female trying to get away from the suspect. Dillon Holdsworth (09/15/1995) was taken into custody and charged with burglary of a habitation, a second degree felony, and he also had outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Offense: Robbery (PC 29.02 Second Degree Felony)

A male suspect was observed by a home owner removing a weed eater from his garage. The home owner was inside his home when he observed a male suspect walking down his driveway with the property. The home owner yelled at the suspect to stop, however he took off running. The home owner gave chase, and was able to catch the suspect and tackle him. While he was trying to hold the suspect down, two other males pulled up in a 2010 Dodge sedan and they began to assault the home owner in an attempt to free their friend. After being hit, the home owner released the suspect, and all three got into the vehicle and left the scene. Officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle parked at a home in the 700 block of Ashland Dr. All three suspects, Juantez Craig (08/25/1993), who had originally stolen the property, Michael Hein (02/04/1993), the driver of the suspect vehicle and Marcus Guerrero (01/30/1991) were all taken into custody and charged with robbery, a second degree felony.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle parked at Yeager Elementary School found a wanted person, and drugs. The reporting party called and said that they had seen the white Toyota Camry four door parked there several times over the past few days. Officers arrived and contacted the person sitting in the driver’s seat, Jacob Moir (01/21/1996) and when he stepped out of the vehicle there was a prescription pill bottle with the label scratched off in the driver door pocket. He was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, a state jail felony. The front seat passenger, Marina Montemayor (09/01/1996) was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant and she was taken into custody.

Offense: Aggravated Robbery (PC 29.03 First Degree Felony)

Corpus Christi Police responded to an armed robbery at a business located in the 13900 block of Northwest Blvd. A 19 year old employee told officers he was in the back prepping food when he observed a male suspect outside point a handgun at another 16 year old female employee. He intervened and told the suspect that he would give him the money. The suspect pointed the handgun at him and both entered the business. The suspect took money from the cash register and the safe and then left toward the back of the restaurant. The suspect is described as a white male, 20 to 30 years old, 5’10” tall and about 165 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue long sleeve shirt, gloves, black pants and a mask.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a crash at the intersection of South Alameda St. and Robert Dr. and found a 2008 Jeep Cherokee had struck a utility pole and the driver had abandoned the vehicle and had fled the scene. The crash investigation revealed that the Jeep was traveling south in the 500 block of Robert Dr. when the driver failed to control speed went up and over the curb and onto the sidewalk before striking the pole. While officers were investigating the crash, they received a call from Mick Jarvis (12/21/1988), who was at his home in the 700 block of Lansdown Dr. trying to report the same Jeep stolen. Officers responded and contacted the suspect, and during the investigation determined that the Jeep had not been stolen, and instead had been wrecked into the pole by the suspect, and then he was picked up and given a ride home. It was also determined by officers that the suspect was intoxicated and he was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, a Class A misdemeanor.

A 17 year old female victim told officers that she was assaulted by a male that she knows and a female outside of her apartment in the 5700 block of Saratoga Blvd. The victim told officers that
she had been speaking to a 19 year old male who she had known for three years about him coming over. The male did not arrive until2 AM and when he did, he had a 16 year old female with him. The victim went outside and told officers she was assaulted by both the male and the female. The victim suffered serious bodily injuries as a result of the assault and was transported to the hospital for treatment. Both suspects have been identified however no arrests have been made. The investigation into this assault will continue.

A Corpus Christ Police Officer stopped a 2004 Chevrolet truck that was traveling south in the 5000 block of Carroll Lane for operating a motor vehicle with an expired registration and inspection. The truck was being driven by Raquel Garcia (01/17/1983) and officers determined that there was no valid insurance on the vehicle. As officers prepared to impound the truck, they found a marijuana cigar in the vehicle along with pipes, and a pair of brass knuckles. Inside her pants, officers found pills in an unmarked bottle. The brass knuckles are a prohibited weapon, and she was charged with a third degree felony. She was additionally charged with possession of a dangerous drug for the unmarked pills, possession of marijuana, and possession of a controlled substance.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to the intersection of 10th St and Coleman Ave for a crash in which one of the drivers had fled the scene. Officer contacted a 20 year old male passenger who was in a 1991 Chevrolet truck who told them that the driver of the truck was driving so fast down Coleman Ave. that he did not know there was a stop sign at the intersection. While investigating the crash, officers located the driver behind a home in the 1500 block of Mussett St. and transported him back to the scene. The crash investigation revealed that the suspect Rodolfo Hernandez (05/09/1994) was traveling north in the 700 block of Tenth St. when he failed to stop at a stop sigh and crashed into a 2010 silver Honda two door. Inside that vehicle was a 51 year old female driver, and a 41 year old female front seat passenger. After striking them the suspect struck another parked car and a fence. Officer’s determined that the suspect was intoxicated and arrested him. At the hospital the suspect resisted physically the officer’s attempts to get a blood sample by attempting to head butt officers and medical staff. An emergency room nurse was struck in the left forearm by one of the suspect’s blows. Officers were finally able to get the suspect under control and he was treated and taken to the City Detention Center. He was charged with intoxicated assault, for causing injuries at the crash, assault on medical personnel, a third degree felony, and resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor.
